BB Firefly Rewatch Day 5: Our Mrs Reynolds

As an unexpected reward for an unpaid job, Mal finds himself married to a naïve, subservient young woman named Saffron (Christina Hendricks). Saffron is all too willing to play the role of housewife, which leads to an argument between Wash and Zoe and lectures from Shepherd Book. But the young woman is not what she appears to be.

I really like this episode, just so many great lines and all the actors' reactions are hilarious.

Didn't get to watch this one today, but I'll watch both tomorrow. I remember liking this episode but not really liking Jaynestown for some reason.

I pretty much love everything about this episode! From the start and Mal in his pretty floral bonnet to the very end where he thinks Inara smooched Saffron. It's just a great fun episode, though... in a sense I think the crew is are kind of cruel to Saffron when they think she's just a simple girl. I get that they want to make fun of Mal, and that whole scene and his exasperation is hilarious, but when you think about it from an outsider's perspective (now Saffron wasn't an innocent girl but still...) they're quite mean, taunting the marriage et al.

It's great too seeing them have fun - like Mal and Jayne partying - or the mocking of Mal later.

Mal: How drunk was I last night?
Jayne: I don't know, I passed out!

While I love Jayne trying to bargain "Vera" for Saffron, I feel a bit like - would you really want that guy on your team? Like Mal seems initially truly worried about that situation. Played for comedic effect yes, but still, if you really think your crew member would threaten your life over something like that... how could you ever trust them otherwise? Say in battle or thievery.

All the same, it's one of my favorite episodes. Christina Hendricks is great in it too. And I love Sheperd's "special hell" warnings.

Easily one of the most quotable episodes!

Mal: "Jayne... go play with your rainstick!"

I thought that Mal and Jane at the start were hilarious and then Jane later trying to trade a gun for the girl.

I think that Inara was a little hypocritical when she said that marriage was degrading.

It was such a very good episode.
