BBtv Discussion: Never Kill a Boy on The First Date and The Pack

I took notes from the first episode..
Never Kill A Boy On The First Date was poor episode. Never much liked it.
But dig it! I did take some notes as I said.. and Buffy was spotted wearing a leopard skin coat, horribly I might add, but later at the bronze the chick singer had a zebra colored leopard skin shirt! what is it with joss and the big kitties? hmm?
Also, I noticed that in his locker the Xand man had a Cramps sticker! whoot good Xand man but i cant really see him liking them.. can you? really? no.
Also when whats his name, the boyfriend got beat up by GI Joe he was knocked out and Buffy thought he was dead. Buffy proceeds to quip with GI Joe and the date starts to wake up. Willow begins to tell Buffy that her 'love' is not dead but Xander stops her so she can do her job and kill the bad vamp. I think that theme came back to play in the end of season two with Angel playing both roles of the date and the GI Joe guy.
That is all. Carry on.

Not one of my favorites. By this point, I was like, "I got it. Buffy wants to be a normal girl. Does she have to WHINE about it all the time?"
BUT, she did show an incredible (for her age) maturity when she decided that Owen would be better off without her.

Never Kill a Boy on The First Date is one of those episodes that I think that I don't like.
But when I do watch it I still enjoy it, like I do with all Buffy episodes.
I never take much notice about Buffy clothes, but I have learned today that her outfits in this episode wasn't all that great apparantly 🙂
Xander is really into Buffy at this point. He really doesn't like seeing Owen and Buffy together.
He's very funny in this episode though, and very sweet when Buffy thinks Owen left her for Cordy after their first failed attempt to a date.
She knew there was a chance that something would happend, had her "beeping thing" on and everything.
Still it took her forever to understand why they where there :rolleyes2
Still it isn't really the same. Here it was more like waiting a second or two until Buffy got rid of the vamp.
Not really comparable to what he did at the end of season 2.
Also like how they think that they saved the day at the end.
While they actually totally missed who the anointed one really was.
The Pack is a difficult episode to watch, don't like seeing Xander being so mean to especially Willow...
Also sad to see principle Flutie die, even though it gave us the great character of Snyder.
Flutie seemed to understand Buffy much better, I think she would had it a bit easier in season 2 and 3 if Flutie was still alive.
I noticed today that Cordelia hasn't got one scene in the Pack.
It would have been interesting to see Hyena Xander and Cordelia together 🙂
And poor Giles got knocked out once again...

The Pack is great to watch for that very reason. At last I Xander I like. I love the way he treats Willow and then laughs at Buffy when she tries to stand up to him. The dodgeball scene was good too. The Pack is one of my favs.

I like the Pack but having watched it with huge speces between when I last watched it and when I'm watching it again. I find that with a lot of Season one episodes, I feel like I'm waiting (impatiently) for the real story to kick in in Season 2.
Joss often comments on how this was the episode that he realised what kind of show he had and the possibilities of what he could do. I can see that, making one of the core characters the baddie is not only brilliant but Buffy at its best. Alot of Xander's scenes remind me of Angelus. DB isn't the only one who can play a d**k brilliantly. Kudos to Nick Brendan.

I haven't finished The Pack yet, so I'll just leave it at this one for now.
This may be one of the FEW episodes where I actually felt for Buffy in having to decide between life and slaying.
I also like seeing how DENSE Giles is in the first few seasons. He's so funny.
Overall, I think it's a big funny.
On the other hand, there are a couple of inconsistencies that bug me.
Like when they dust the vamp and the ring stays.
All the other times, vamps just go up and everything turns to dust.
If jewelry stays around, seems to me that Buffy should really BE fencing the stuff later when she needs money.
And, although I didn't count, there seem to be a LOT more than 5 people on that "van". At the very least we see the creepy kid, the mom, the crazy guy and the driver and then random other folks. So that is four, if we assume one other random other folk dies......what happens to the other people? They don't comment?
Also, WHAT IS this van? It's like a small bus type thing but all the people seem to act like they're traveling on a large bus from hither to yon. Instead, it's more like a small, "Let's see the sights of Sunnydale in the Middle of the Night" tour bus. And then, all the bodies go to the Sunnydale Funeral Home? Not to the morgue and then shipped back to their homes, but just sent there? So are they all from IN town or not? I don't get what this bus thing was or where it came from or what it was doing!!!!!!
The creepy kid irks me. And I was surprised to see that this time, he even irked me as "random kid on the bus to nowhere".
Xander however, IS adorable in his jealousy.
Him and Willow pretending to be on a double date made me laugh so hard and wish it had happened.
Cordelia getting the cold shoulder at every turn was funny. And the "Hello Salty Goodness" always gets a laugh. Plus the "that boy's gonna need oxygen" makes me laugh just because I know he's a vampire and she doesn't. *sorry for the spoiler there guys*
And I just feel sorry for Owen. THAT boy needs therapy!
I DO raise an eyebrow at the end where Buffy claims that Giles, Willow and Xander are somehow more prepared to fight vampires than Owen is. Maybe Giles, but Willow and Xander aren't. It's just a weird theory to come to.

^ I think it was an airport shuttle, taking them from the airport to a hotel or something. I don't know about the other people on the bus, though. That's something I actually never wondered about. :blush:

Clearly she was referencing D'Owens 'thrill' of it; his adrenaline rush etc etc like his desire to go downtown and start randoms fight. I think she (and the writers) meant more mentally prepared to fight.

Yup I agree too. I love that Xander actually grows a pair in this ep. It hints too of Vamp Xand to come.
That's the problem with season one isn't it? It's a tiny bit dull and bitty. But then I suppose it's all about getting to know the characters.
One thing I never realised about NKABOTFD is that is choc full of quotey goodness...some seriously legendary Buffy quotes came out of this episode.
