Ok, next one's down the hatch - Christina Hendricks guest-stars as Safran, who appears to have accidentally married the captain. This, of course, turns out not to be the case.

As far as plot goes, this may be my favorite thus far. Most of it took place on Serenity and I like bottle episodes of TV, which this came close to being. Christina Hendricks is damn talented, too, and did very well in this role.

I continue to enjoy Mal, no surprise there since I've always had a soft spot for Nathan Fillion.

Jayne is growing on me; I get that he's an ass, but now I see even he has some certain kind of charm.

I also enjoy - Zoe, is it? - Torres' role, especially in relation to her husband.

Here's my ongoing issue, which should not be an issue now that I'm 3 episodes deep, and yet still is; it's too effin crowded.

There are too many characters and not enough screentime to devote to them all, leaving me here; I have no opinion whatsoever on Wash and wonder why his movie-death was sad, right now him dying would do nothing for me. I'm also over the River mystery (she didn't have a single line in this episode) and could care less about her doc brother. The preacher just gets on my nerves and that hooker person? She got pissed that her crush unknowingly married a stranger? Right, cause that was totally Mal's fault...wth?

If I'm being completely honest, I'm only finishing my watch because it has so few episodes; I'm finding it less interesting with each episode 🙁

You're not alone in hating/not caring for Jayne but I personally find him fascinating and a very complex character (like most characters on the show). But I admit it was a while before I saw this in him

I didn't fall into my terminal amusement with Jayne until that song... and the hat doesn't hurt. Jayne the hero.

Jayne is one of those characters I usually don't care for but for some reason he's one of my favorites on the show. I can't explain it, it confuses me a great deal lol. It's probably because of the way the actor is portraying him and also it's clear he's an opportunist jerk. The show doesn't try to pin him as anything else.

For me, it is the vulnerability he often displays. Any character, no matter how unsympathetic, can be humanised by exposing their pain.

At first, I wanted Mal to kill him, but I quickly changed my mind and was so relieved when Mal let him back into the ship.
