Trivia:
- Mr. Platt's smoking reinforces the show's clear bias against smoking, as every character in the show who has smoked has been either evil (Spike and Angelus), doomed (Laura in "Nightmares" and the woman who was Angel's first kill after re-losing his soul) or both (Sheila in "School Hard").
- When Giles remarks that time moves differently in the demon dimension, Buffy says, "I remember." That may imply that the netherworld into which she and Lily fell in "Anne" is the same demon dimension into which Angel was sucked in "Becoming, Part 2", or at least that they have the "time moves differently" thing in common.
- Willow is seen with a Scooby-Doo lunchbox, calling to mind the Scooby Gang's name, as the gang was named after Scooby.
- When Buffy talks to Debbie in the locker room, she is standing in front of a poster that reads "Most girls aren't attracted to dead guys".

- "It seems to soothe his savage beastie." Willow has become the latest to misquote the famous line, "Music hath charms to soothe the savage breast," from the first scene of the play The Mourning Bride by William Congreve.
- "Every guy, from Manimal down to Mr. I-Love-The-English-Patient, has beast in him." Manimal was a short-lived 1983 television series created by pop sci-fi king Glen Larson (Battlestar Galactica, Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, Knight Rider) about a man (played by Simon MacCorkindale) with the mystical ability to turn himself into just about any animal. The English Patient is the female-friendly Anthony Minghella film which won the 1996 Academy Award® for Best Picture.
- "Three-dimensional, Sensurround, the hills are alive..." A reference to The Sound of Music.
- "So while you two live out your grim fairy tale, two people are dead." This is a pun referring to the Brothers Grimm.

- Willow, Xander, and Cordelia go to the morgue to examine a corpse. While they're examining, you can see the corpse breathing.
- In "Beauty and the Beasts," Giles berates Xander for falling asleep on Oz watch. But when Buffy takes a turn, Giles comes in to find her asleep and says nothing. (What's up with that?)
- When Debbie turns around from looking in the mirror, her black eye is gone.
- Buffy has a two a-clock appointment with the school counselor, but the wall-clock over the door shows a quarter past four.

Arc significance
- Buffy will keep Angel's return hidden from others as she struggles to understand it.
- We see the first attempt of Oz to control being a werewolf and his doubts of whether the wolf is a part of him or a separate being.
- Angel's return from Hell will also be one of the premises for his own show.
- Buffy now has had two teachers that were nice to her and tried to understand her predicament die tragically shortly afterwards.
