I was on youtube, and I found this cute video.

I don't know why this wasn't made into commercial, because it's one of the best videos I've seen. This girl is the cuttest, and she really sends the right meassage.

great message. I like how they said "Be healthy" not "be happy with how you look." Heathy... that's what we need to be. Not skinny, and not ok with looking however... but healthy.
 
Cute little girl, but lets face it, nothing was said that we haven't heard a million times before. "We're unique, be healthy, be happy" Yes. We get it. Clearly that isn't working.

Technically I'd purfer a woman with curves than one that looks like she just got liberated from a concentration camp. There is a big different between happy and healthy. You can have a lil chunk and still be healthy, but not happy wth yourself. I don't know it's all something the media has created and now tries to seem like they're all for stopping body image issues when in reality they're fueling the cause they're trying to stop.

I think that this video is kinda ironic, of course that little girl wont want to look like somebody else... she is all set for looking how she "should".

The video completely lacks credibility starring a little white, blonde, blue eyed, slim cutie.

I agree. I have similar feelings towards the "It gets better" campaign. I just don't feel like this is enough for someone who is lost in misery. Why aren't there campaigns illustrating how to get to that "better" place? "You just have to start believing in your self"-how do you do that? It's not like a button can just be switched and suddenly you are filled with self-worth.

Well no one can tell you how to be happy. How to solve your problems. How to get out of your misery. There are people who can inspire you, who can show you a way to that place.. but getting there, it's up to you. This kind of commercials, they probably will never solve someone's problem. But they can help.. just a little bit. When I'm feeling down I like to watch this videos, because somehow they do help.. they do tell me it's gonna be better. But I know I have to discover myself how to get better.

I understand that, appreciate it even, but there is just something condescending about it. People know this already and they certainly don't need a 5 or 6 year old little girl to tell them that. Knowing that there is better is not the problem, it's getting to that place and staying there that is thing.

This is just something that really bugs me personally, so ignore my ranting. 😉

It's ok, everyone are entiteled on their own opinion. Like I said somewhere around here, this is a home made video, not some big commercial.. it comes from the heart. And to be honest, I would rather see this young innocent girl in this commercial rather then some sexy hot blonde who's saying how it's not important to look hot and beautiful. One day I'm probably gonna have a daughter, and I would never want her to grow up unsatasfied with her body.. no matter how she looks like. So I guess that's why this video touched me, especially "Do you want me to look like somebody else?" part..

While I'm not familiar with that particular campaign, I do see your point. To just tell someone who's in a bad state that "it gets better" is more likely to make the person feel worse. Since I was the one who said I'll use this, I can add that I am aiming that particular lesson of a group of largely white, reasonably healthy young females with a soft spot for "cute". And I am their science teacher, whom I think they consider incapable of cuteness. I am using this to get them "aww-ing" a little as a bridge from one part of the lesson to another, nothing else.
