The point is you can't, there's already proof they intended to not keep Spike dead.

It was definitely emotional support and Spike is a fighter who won't back down easily. Spike was the only one who had her back more than anyone that season. She needed him in all ways.

Spike was a warrior for the light/good simply because he had gone and chosen to get a soul. That is a loss to evil (the First) and a net gain for Buffy. That's how I see the metaphysics - and since Buffy dealt so much in deeper concepts I think this is important.
I also think that Spike's redemption plan was to die instead of Buffy because there was gonna be some apocalypse and someone would need to die. There are no nuances for him in season 7 - if Buffy says it then it is right. Any objections is what the First wants. Which technically was right since I also think the First had some say in the group dynamics and problems. That set-up is prime for manipulation - and we saw a few of them. I doubt that was all there were.
I like Spike and Angel - usually slashed. I think that Buffy was a huge turning point for both of them - but she is also one part of what could theoretically be centuries more. Personally, I tend to suspect Buffy is better off without both - and all the baggage.
