Trivia:

- The sequence with the Mutant Enemy mascot, the little monster that goes "Grr Argh" at the end of all episodes, was changed for a total of six episodes: - in "Becoming Part Two" (#2.22) it said, 'Oh, I need a hug." - in "Amends" (#3.10) it wore a Santa hat and bells were jingling. - in "Graduation Day Part Two" (#3.22) it wore a graduation cap. - in "Once More With Feeling" (#6.07) it sang its "Grr Argh." - in "Storyteller" (#7.16) it sang, "We are as gods." - in "Chosen" (#7.22) it looked out at the viewers instead of looking straight-forward.

- The mansion in which Spike, Drusilla and Angel have been living since "I Only Have Eyes For You" is on Crawford Street, outside of Sunnydale.

- James G. MacDonald reprises the role of Detective Stein, who questioned Buffy in "Ted". He will question her once again in "Consequences."

Goofs:

- Near the end of the episode, when Joyce comes upstairs looking for Buffy and the view pushes in toward the half-open door to Buffy's room, you can see the top of the flats making up the walls of the set and over them into the studio beyond. Also, an electrical cord loops down into the shot near the corner where the walls meet. (I've tried to see this and I just can't see it).

- After Angel is re-ensouled, he doesn't remember the events leading up to where he is. But various times on "Angel" (1999), it is implied, if not outright stated, that, while it takes a few moments to remember where he is after being cursed, Angel and Angelus share the same memories.

- Buffy couldn't have known it was Drusilla that killed Kendra. She wasn't in the library when it happened, and everybody who was in the library was unconscious when it happened.

amazing episode!!! I really love Buffy in this ep. She is really, utterly alone in this episode. I am glad Spike offered to help her. I liked that. I liked one of the Big Bads siding with the good ones just to take his girl back!

The swordfight between Angelus and Buffy is great. Really, words can't describe! I cried in the end...I wonder, is there a person who doesn't cry in the end? Not just because she killed the love of her life to save the world, but also she is completely alone, she was kicked out of her house, her Mom seemed to be unable to accept that she is "different" from other kids.The look on her face when she is leaving Sunnydale. I will never forget that.And the Scoobies don't know what happened between her and Angel.

possibly Saddest episode ever...(except for the Gift maybe)

very true. I'm living proof that you don't have to be a Bangel to bawl your eyes out at the ending of this one!
THIS. This is my favourite episode because of all those things... the sequence at the end, where she leaves Sunnydale, is possibly one of my favourite scenes ever, because you're right, she's completely, totally alone. The bit where she says 'close your eyes' makes me tear up every time!

Plus: Spike being good is awesome 😀
 
Also one of my favorites! You have our hero, Buffy, and all the things that people say make her the best slayer, she has ripped away from her. And it does go to the slayer is alone thing, it is so sad. She loses everything, and a lot of people fault her from running away, but I think it shows her being really human rather than only a slayer. I think is beautiful and heartbreaking, and this ep will always hold a place in my heart!
 
Not going to lie, my 8-year-old self cried his eyes out when Buffy killed Angel at the end. lol

I was 8 years old when that happened, and my actions were the same as your kids :)
There's a lot of sad moments in BtVS, but the ending of Becoming: Part 2 was at the time the first that really got to me. The song obviously helping, but after everything that happened through that episode, everything she lost, it was heartbreaking. I'm tempted to say it's still the saddest moment in the series for me, but the end of season 5 and a couple others in the last seasons stop me!

Still, awesome episode.
 
this episode makes me cry every.single.time i watch it... and i've watched it many many times. It's very well crafted.
 
becoming part 2 Interesting facts

I feel like crying just thinking about it and sometimes I like to watch it if I feel like having a good cry. The sword fight between Buffy and Angel is more amazing when you know that Sarah did her own swordwork in it.
 
It's a great episode but i really really hate the End.
Sadness is okay, but this is just too much. The writers overdone it with the curse hitting at the very last moment and the leaving town thing. Just too sad.
Best moment: Joyce and Spike sitting in the living room.

Hmm. Interesting. You're the first person who doesn't like the ending. I think it was pretty good. Not because it was sad, it was because it showed us something. First, it showed us how Buffy is brave and has a lot of strenghet, she's a hero and not selfish.. she knows what she has to do, and that what she wants is not good for the rest of the world. And then we saw how much that effects her. She lost one of the most important persons in her life. She thought she was ready, she wasn't. Being strong enough to kill the person you love is a powerful act, and it did left effect on Buffy. I sure don't think it was overdone, because we needed that. After all what Xander said, how Buffy's only concerne is to bring her boyfriend back, we saw that Buffy gave him up in order to save the world.
 
In some ways i love the ending, in other ways i agree that its too painful but that's what makes the ending so good. It is so emotionally strong and is the culmination of a fantastic season where the fans felt apart of a extroidinary journey. You felt Buffy's pain and you just felt so sorry for her. By now you love the characters and to see her leaving the town on the bus with the sign saying "your now leaving Sunnydale please come back soon" is really moving.

You know how good a show is by how it affects you when you are watching it. I fail to see how how anyone wouldn't be moved by the ending and that's why the episode stands out alongside episodes like "The Gift" and "Chosen".
 
I just love when Buffy busts out her "I'm depressed" overalls. 😛

And it's possible that in Buffy and Giles' research about Drusilla, they learned that she often kills people by slitting their throat with her fingernail. I can't remember if we see anybody else killed this way by her, but the hypnotic way she did it certainly seems to be her style.

This episode always gets me teary.

I watched Becoming 2 again, I have watched it so much that I have lost count of the number of times I have watched it. I noticed that Buffy wore the cross Angel gave her when they first met for the fight with Angelus. A good tie-in to the scene in "Angel" I thought after watching it yesterday would have been the cross burning into Angel's flesh when Buffy and Angel were embracing and kissing before Buffy puts the sword into him.

Although I wouldn't change the way the both episodes went down I can't help but think how different things would have been if Buffy had stayed with Kendra in the library instead of allowing herself to be lured away by Angelus. I don't think Drusilla would have been able to hynotize Buffy the way she did Kendra, since the master tried to use it on Buffy the second time and it didn't work.
 
Why in the hell was Buffy being hunted by the cops? Why didn't Xander tell the police that she was not responsible for the deaths in the Sunnydale High library?

Is this supposed to be another example of why Buffy is "superior" to Kendra? Because I'm not buying it. Buffy already proved that she was susceptible to hypnosis by the Master in "Prophecy Girl". That was how he was able to hypnotize her the first time and kill her. She was also susceptible to hypnosis by Dracula in "Buffy vs. Dracula". That was how he was able to hypnotize her the first time and get a bite out of her. Dracula could have killed Buffy so easily. Instead, he allowed her to live. Which was a mistake on his part.
 
I really liked season 2, and this was a great season finale. Even though I prefer Angel over Angelus, he was pretty awesomely ruthless. Passions was just amazing... as was Becoming pt 1 & 2.
 
Truly amazing episode. It's so moving, sad, desperate, touching. It has everything. It's very important for all the characters, really. Willow gets her first taste at her magic abilities and she's fully committed to Oz now, Xander is still dating Cordelia but he knows very well it's nothing more than a little crush, he cares about Willow and at the same time he still has a deep crush on Buffy. Giles bonded with Buffy over the dangerous aspects of involving your lovers in your "job", he's been there to support her all the time and their relationship grew stronger. Buffy goes through something so heartbreaking that has no words..she gave everything she was to Angel and at this point, counting Surprise and Innocence, she's so bruised by everything that's happened...culminating into killing your first true love who turned good..he's there, you can have him again, you can be together..and still, you gotta kill him..for the world, you gotta do the right thing. If you notice after season two she's never going to open up her heart to someone the way she did to Angel...emotionally, she's gonna close it and throw away the key..nothing can enter, nothing will come out because the bruises were there (maybe since her parents got divorced) and they're gonna be there. I think only in Chosen she realized all of this and gave that wonderful cookie speech to Angel (WHO ELSE?). Sorry about the ranting...just love this episode and this season (it's my favorite) 'cause it's the season of love and pain.

Becoming: Part 1 wasn't a bad episode, but Part 2 blows it out of the water.

My favorite quotes from the episode are when Buffy confronts Spike and they're trying to decide if they should work together. Spike's "Happy Meals With Legs" Speech is great and I've always loved this quote from Buffy:

"...The whole earth may be sucked into Hell, and you want my help 'cause your girlfriend's a big ho? Well, let me take this opportunity to not care."

The line itself doesn't sound like much, but SMG's delivery always makes me laugh. I don't know why.

I think the scenes at the end of this episode are really descriptive of how much Buffy has given up, or lost in this episode. Her school, her mom, her home, her love. I think she leaves Sunnydale because she feels like there is nothing left for her.

It could be that the Mayor and Snyder were skewing facts to neutralize Buffy, regardless of what Xander may or may not have sad.

Or it could be sloppy writing.

This (and part 1) is my 2nd favorite episode. Full of horror, comedy, and brilliant drama in about equal measures. Some nice special effects, too.

The reason it is not my favorite episode comes down to one point: Dru's "hypnotic" powers which she used to kill Kendra. I call BS. If she had this power, why did she not use it against Buffy??
