Winona Ryder has joined Michael Keaton and Tim Burton in saying a Beetlejuice sequel is in the works. In December Burton confirmed there was a script and now that Ryder is officially on board things can get underway. I know somewhere in her far-away land @Faith is pleased there is another Burton movie in the works.

So is Beetlejuice the sequel better than Beetlejuice the reboot?

I LOVE Beetlejuice, seriously one of my all time favorite movies. I know there was always supposed to be a sequel, but I don't know whether or not it would work. I mean, are ALL the cast coming back? Because I don't know if it would work without the whole cast.

NO! I don't want Geena Davis, Alec Baldwin and Jeffrey Jones showing up in it! So far it's only announced Keaton, Burton and Ryder.

Furthermore.. Davis and Baldwin are ghosts! Like vampires they dont age, so I am not sure how you could fit them into it.
 
Is it gonna be like Drop Dead Fred were Beetlejuice is like a hanger-on from Ryder's childhood now she's an adult, or? Will she be the wife in the married couple who both die and become ghosts? Will it be set in the same house?

Still think a sequel will be better than a reboot nonetheless.

That's what I am thinking... I mean, they were married afterall.. She is his wife. So...
 
No, are you kidding me? I need the whole cast back, it won't be Beetlejuice without everyone. I need another one of those dinner party scenes, lol.
 
You dont need the whole cast for another dinner party scene! Maybe I'll let you have Otto back.. and Delia.
 
Alright, maybe not the WHOLE cast, but Keaton, Ryder, Davis and Baldwin AT LEAST. They are Beetlejuice to me. STOP RUINING MY CHILDHOOD!

In any case, I'd rather have a sequel than a reboot. Fantastic Four just proved that reboots never work the way you expect them to.

The studio ruined that movie. If the studio had not gotten involved the movie would have been much better.. the first act is fine.. still, it would have been Chronicle Reloaded more than a F4 movie, but they knew that before they started filming.. it was Fox that fouled that movie up when they heard the nerdrage from people.

Davis and Baldwin for cameos maybe? I could do that. Give them both a little five minute cameo..

As long as Keaton's there, I'm sold.
I'll watch a sequel- the original is just one of those types of movies that doesn't get made anymore. Completely batshit insane awesome.
 
I too am more for a sequel than a reboot. I just think Beetlejuice is the sort of thing where you keep what made it classic in the first place and then just add to the story rather than trying to do something completey new which might bomb. Its a bit risky I think as a rule of thumb I tend to say don't go back, plus I'm not sure Burton is the creative spark he once was. Another thing will Caroline Thompson be on board as writer because she is a big part of Burton's success IMO.

Yeah, that doesnt really exude confidence.

The thing that made Beetlejuice work is that Keaton was only on screen for 18 minutes; I cant imagine the new movie not making him the sole focus and everyone else moving to the periphery.

Very true and the way they build up to his first appearance making such a big deal of it just made the impact even greater. I can see this new version being a bit-anti-climatic.
