during that final scene in the church, when Buffy realized her got his sould back. Marsters is a talented actor.


Hated all the worm drama, the Spike scenes made this episode tolerable.

Yes! James does outstanding at the end of this episode. When he goes limp on the cross and says, "Can we rest now Buffy? Can we rest?" It breaks my heart every time. Its an amazing scene. SMG does a great job too... so much emotion just on her face, she doesn't need to say a thing to convey her realization and turmoil she knows she's in for now.

Buffy following him back to that church shows that she does care about Spike. She sensed that something wasn't right with him.

Especially the way he reacted to accidently staking that chick's psycho BF in human form.
 
I cried like a baby. Quietly an respectfully of course. Spike went through hell for his soul and his whole scene was amazing. It had that eerie quality in the begining that put me on the edge of my seat and made every hair stand on the back of my neck.

What do you mean you couldn't understand him? Because of his accent and because he was crying? Or because you didn't get what he was alluding too?

Here's some of the more memorable dialouge from the episode:

Spike: "I dreamed of killing you. I think they were dreams. So weak. And you make me weak. Thinking of you, holding myself"¦and spilling useless buckets of salt over your"¦ending. Angel, he should've warned me. He makes a good show of forgetting"¦but it's here in me"¦all the time. The spark. I wanted to give you what you deserve. And I got it. They put the spark in me and now, all it does is burn. "

Buffy: "Your soul."

Spike: "A bit worse for lack of use."

Buffy: "You got your soul back. How?"

Spike: "It's what you wanted, right? It's what you wanted, right? And, and now everybody's in here, talking. Everything I did, everyone I "“ and him"¦and it, the other. The thing beneath you. Its here too. Everybody. They all just tell me go, go"¦to hell."

Buffy: "Why? Why would you do "“ "

Spike: "Buffy, shame on you. Why does a man do what he mustn't? For her. To be hers. To be the kind of man who would nev "“ to be a kind of man. And she shall look on him with forgiveness. And everybody will forgive and love. And he will be loved. So everything's ok, right? Can we rest now? Buffy? Can we rest?"

And isn't there some thread somewhere where we discussed the alternate dialouge that David Fury wrote?

I LOVE this episode. Firstly, I loved Nancy and was seriously hoping she was going to be a love interest for Xander to stir up trouble between him and Anya, and eventually get him to realize he and Anya had to be together again. LOL
Secondly, YES, James was bloody brilliant in this episode!!! OMG. The church scene is probably my favorite Spike moment in the series. Poor Spike... And to echo what everyone else said, when he falls limp on the cross was just a beautiful, wonderful moment and it made me go "Ohhhhhhhh, James you ROCK." 🙂

I also agree about Nancy. She was cool.
The Spike scene in the church is my favourite of season 7. It's beautifully done - the writing, the staging, the blue lighting, and of course JM's brilliant performance.
 
Hated the whole episode. Not enough Willow. The Anya storyline was dull, the worm ridiculous. And I couldn't care less about crazy Spike. Really the episode I enjoyed least out of the whole season.
 
I adore this scene, its my favourite ever spuffy moment. It makes this completely mediocre episode worth watching.

The scene is very moving, I might have cried the first time I saw it, but now I stay away from that episode.

It's because of how "easily" Buffy accepted Spike back after the rape attempt and because of how Spike acted at the Bronze.

I realize on a rational level that Buffy did act as expected. She didn't want to think about the almost rape, so she tried to ignore it, focusing on the important task at hand, letting Spike go with her. Also, I think she remembered the schock on Spike's face in the bathroom. It sure looked like he regreted it. The denial and the regret probably made it bareable for her to be near him, even tough my ideal reaction for a almost rape victim would be to kill the rapist. Of course, if she didn't do it in season 6, (even wanted Dawn to stay with him) it can't be expected months afterwards, when she has had time to deal with it.

And with Spike, he had been feeling like crap for months, so what he did in the Bronze, when Anya brought attention to his soul, was to try to repress that, by turning into jerk. Since it's the only time right now I remember him acting taht way towards Buffy in season 7, it is forgivable.

But, since rape is a very strong fear of mine, and it has happened to people I know, the Bronze scene gives the whole episode a bad aftertaste, even the beautiful church scene.

I thought she followed him to make sure he didn't cause any more trouble(possibly to stake him).

I might have to rewatch this episode after all. *brrrr*
 
I loved this scene! JM's acting is so good and poised and whatever words there are for it. I didn't cry, I hardly ever cry, but I came near to crying. It's not only one of my favourite Spuffy scenes, but even if I weren't into them together, it is very good. The emotion both show, without over acting it, just.. great.



And shirtless Spike... NOMNOMNOM! (sw)

It's one of my all-time fav Spike scenes. I didn't cry, but I wanted - for just that one moment in time - to be SMG as Buffy... and I would have run over & hugged him close & said "Oh my god, Spike... YES, you can rest now - I'm here!!!!!!!"

I loved watching that scene for the first time back in 2002. The lighting was done so well in the church, and the slow build up with Spike is telling Buffy what happened was great. The best part was when he said "Angel, he should of warned me", then it cut to Buffy's face in complete shock, and you could see the tears building in her eyes. This makes me want to watch that scene again lol.
