Ben's would-be fate the same as Fred's?

If Glory had succeeded in entering the portal to her own world, she would've shed her old human body and Ben would've ceased to exist. Not just died, you understand, but completely winked out of existence. As one of Glory's minions said,

Oblivion is such a small inconvenience in the service of a deity. Accept your fate. I mean, you said it yourself. This life was never really yours anyway, was it?

And Fred's soul was destroyed in the fires of Illyria's rise. I know some people think that she really did go to a heavenly dimension or wasn't totally destroyed, but I think she was pretty much obliterated. No soul to move into some afterlife. Just destroyed.

There's nothing left to bring back. Miss Burkle's soul was consumed
by the fires of resurrection. Everything she was is gone.

(BTW, I know they planned for parts of Fred's personality to emerge in the cancelled S6, but that, to me, was just memories and leftover personality. Not her, not the consciousness, the individual. Just echoes.)



So was Fred's fate the same as Ben's would have been? I think so.

Why do you think Ben would have stopped existing? Was that mentioned on the show?

In that case, you kind of answered your own question. They don't exist anymore.

But someone mentioned in another thread that the writers had planned on splitting Illyria and Fred. i hope that person reads this, and maybe even has a source. That would change things. That would mean that either a)Fred does exist somewhere, or b)that she can be re-created. Cloned, be put back together, whatever.

I read somewhere that Joss said that, but I can't find a direct quote collaborating it. Possibly Illyria, since she could, in the beginning, control time, simply moved Fred's soul forward in time, to reappear at a later date (as in Season 6) possibly in the same hell that After The Fall was located.

As for Ben, I think that he and Glory pretty much enjoyed a quite similar if not identical relationship as the one that Angel and Twilight did in Season 8, with Glory as the more aggressive, therefore the dominant personality of the two. If that was so, and Glory's bond with Ben was permanently severed, destroyed, or whatever, then that would mean that Giles did, in fact, murder a more or less innocent man who proposed no future threat to Buffy, Dawn, or the world anymore, which makes him a simple cold blooded murderer.

I've wondered why that was never discussed as an option. Why we never saw any character propose the idea that Illyria brought her and someone else back, catching Fred's essence without being noticed(could be that they did off screen and she said no, out of fear what would happen).

Or that they would ask TPTB to go back in time. I wonder why we never saw Angel as that at least one more time, after he was shoot down after Doyle died)

But that was just it. There was a big fat "if" hanging over Giles' head. There was no good reason for Giles's to think she was gone forever. And he couldn't afford letting Ben live and find out. So in my book, he might have been cold, but not a murderer in the evil sense. He just wanted to live. And for his loved ones to live.

I don't think Ben's fate would have been exactly the same, because it was shown in the show that Ben and Glory could not exist without the other. Didn't Glory say something to the effect that if the spell worked and she was able to split herself from Ben that they would be two separate entities.
