Title says it all. Only rule is to not degrade others for their opinions (friendly debate is perfectly acceptable though).

Presumably, everyone on this board is a fan of Buffy/Angel so we all have good taste in at least television. Let's all pick some albums from the past year and decide if it was a good/bad year for music or somewhere between.

My picks (in no particular order):

1. My Morning Jacket - Evil Urges
2. Wolf Parade - At Mount Zoomer
3. The Roots - Rising Down
4. TV On the Radio - Dear Science
5. The Raconteurs - Consolers of the Lonely
6. Conor Oberst - Conor Oberst
7. Erykah Badu - New Amerykah Part One
8. The Black Keys - Attack & Release
9. Beck - Modern Guilt
10. Atmosphere - When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That S**t Gold

All in all, I'd say it was a fairly weak year in music with none of these albums ranking as high as my favorite 2007 album (Arcade Fire's Neon Bible) but I still enjoyed these, particularly Rising Down, Conor Oberst, and Modern Guilt with New Amerykah and WlgYLYpTSG being the weakest two in my list.

I bought a CD in December last year that pretty much summed up the year for commercial pop.
It was the greatest hits of 2008 - and I bought it for £2 in a Woolworths bargain bin!

It was an awful year for music, course I don't really buy albums or any of that. I think I bought two CD's this year

E=MC2 - Mariah Carey
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: The Score - Christopher Beck

I love them both to death, but mostly I just bought single songs etc. online.

Nickelback's 'Dark Horse' is amazing. I love every song on that album.

Pink's 'Funhouse' is quite good, too.

What was it with the Circus theme thsi year? Birtney, Take That and Pink all had Circusy themed albums this year?

Christina Aguilera was doing that two years ago.

Glasvegas - Glasvegas.

I feel like I should say Only By The Night by Kings of Leon because they're my favourite band (check the username! 😀) but uhm, I think it sucked, well in comparison to their other albums anyway.

Most other albums I got this year were not that good either.

Blasphemy! OBTN was brilliant!
What was it with the Circus theme thsi year? Britney, Take That and Pink all had Circusy themed albums this year?

Christina Aguilera was doing that two years ago.

Christina and Pink are the only ones that have actual talent I think.
Not to say I don't like Britney because her songs are very catchy
and I'm a definite "Toxic" fan, but I don't think her voice is anything extraordinary.

I liked Dig!!! Lazarus Dig!!! by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, not everyone's cup of tea, bit i liked it. I liked the Kings, but it wasn't as good as their other stuff.

WHAT?! There waas music in 2008?! I did not notice. I haven't bought a cd in years.

Oh there was music in 2008. And you'd have definitely noticed the BAD music if you worked in a bar like I do.

Fortunately, there were some good albums too. You just have to look around for them a bit.

What kind of music do you like, SpoonsAreCool?

Aww you know. All types. Mostly like, indie, symbolic, jewish, musicals, everything really. And PLEASE, call me Jen.

I barely listen to any recent music, so I couldn't list that many, but I did love Goodbye Blues by The Hush Sound and Only by Night by Kings of Leon.

All right, Jen it is. I like indie music too, although that term is so broad anymore that it's hard for me to know exactly what it means for a band to be indie. I would consider a few of the bands I mentioned on the page before to be somewhat indie, although a lot of them are probably on major labels by now, so maybe none of them qualify anymore.

Only By the Night is probably my favorite KOL album period. (Because of the Times is second.) And "Closer" is now my favorite song...ever. But the whole CD is pretty awesome...I'd agree "Use Somebody" is not the best song but I don't hate it.

Ohh really. Aha Shake Heartbreak is my favourite, then Youth and Young Manhood. BOTT is third and although it is amazing, I don't think it would be half as good without Knocked Up, Charmer and Mcfearless.
