Best and worst jobs?

Hi everyone,

I was going to ask this on the "career" thread but didn't want to detract from it's original question so I decided to give it it's own thread. Hope that's ok.

I'm wondering, what has been the best and the worst job you've ever had?

I guess, for those who haven't had a job yet, what would you imagine your best and worst job being?

My worst is telemarketing (the annoying person who calls you in the middle of dinner to try and sell you something you don't want)...I hated it so much. And I was really really bad at it! I have very thin skin (meaning I'm super sensitive) and my feelings would get hurt when people hung up on me.

My best -by far- is what I do now, massage therapy. I love love love that I get to try to make people feel better by touching them. It can be a cold world. My work helps me to stay warm.

Best job ever is my graphic designer career I am currently in. Right now I work as a freelance designer, but I love what i do. 😀

Worst job ever was working as an accounting clerk. Ugh....
 
I haven't had many jobs yet, cos I went back to school. But I had an internship last year when I was unemployed, I had to basically work for 3 weeks with no pay to see if I would be able to the job well and then MAYBE get a job there. It was at a cleaning service for old people, and I had to clean their toilets!!! I was there for a week then I I left. I'm no slave.

Best job I had was working at a local supermarket, It was easy, hardly any responsibility and the money was good.
 
My worst job was being a paper delivery girl. I didn't mind the early morning or the exercise but the people at the newsagents treated me like rubbish and we had many an argument (despite me being their longest and most successful worker).

My best job was either working at a florist as I got to look after flowers and make cups of tea all morning, or as a waitress as I got free coffee and it was above minimum wage unlike the former job.

Now, I can easily see why you don't want to work for free, if that's what you meant with you not being a slave. But honestly: Were you surprised that the cleaning service cleaned toilets?

The job I've liked the least, was working in the laundry of am old folk's home. I didn't mind the job as such, but I didn't cope too well with the heat. The best? I've enjoyed several. Being a saddler's assistant was good, and teaching (as I do now) rocks.

Well I had work off the books when i was a teenager 😛 but as in real employment....I worked as a server...and if you seen the movie "Waiting" then you know what my job was like lmao...yes really 😛 .....and then I sold drugs for awhile working in a Walgreens Pharmacy lol......now i'm an analyst....YAY 🙁 ...but I'm still trying to multi task work getting into everything!!!!
 
I really have had some terrible, terrible jobs. Working at a kebab store for about 6 months was truly terrible, the heat in the kitchen was unbearable and the owners demanded a lot from me which I had trouble doing. Hungry Jacks (Burger king) was terrible as well. I had a psycho of a boss, she was a nasty piece of work, and despite the fact that I was excellent at my job I felt really under appreciated. And yeah, I was on $5 an hour. Terrible.

Best job was probably Dominos actually. I worked there for almost 3 years and put in some solid work. I got lots of free pizza and met some amazing people. I grew up so much over the years of 14-17 and I think Dominos had a lot to do with it. My current job is good most of the time, but I spend so much time at work, and the rest of the time I'm thinking and stressing about it. I wonder if it's worth it.

No, you didn't. I just read your comment about "not being a slave" as relating to washing toilets.
Worst job: Working in my local newsagents when I was 18, it was just awful. I was under trained to start with, lots of old people who liked their shopping done a certain way and I was just there to do the crap jobs. Quit after 4 weeks.

Best job: Probably the one I'm in now. I hate my boss (he's a twat) but thats it really, I get on well with everyone. Every day I'm doing something different and I know I work hard and spring is our busiest season being a bike shop and all.
 
My best job and worst job were the same:being a custodian in the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World, Orlando.

It was the worst because the job itself was horrific: "protein spills", doing the most disgusting trash you have ever experienced (whilst wearing a white jumpsuit!), terrible hours and all for buttons in shitty conditions.

On the otherside, it was the best because when we were "off stage" we had free run of all the parks and rides all summer and our apartments were amazing. It's pretty much the perfect college summer job. If only I hadn't ticked the "custodian" box, I could have been working the tills in air conditioning! lol
 
The job that I hated the most was working in the dining hall when I was in college. I had to be at work at 5am and had to work for at least 2 hours before getting a break to eat my own breakfast, then had to clean up everyone else's mess .

Without a doubt, the most dangerous job that I've ever had was in the Navy, when we were literally being shot at (but missed, thank God!)

And absolutely the best job that I have ever had is my current career; RETIREMENT!!! I go to work when I'm good and damn ready and quit whenever I feel like it. I eat when I'm hungry, sleep when I'm tired, and take no notice of clocks or calendars. I think I've found my life's career.
 
Worst: retail. It is HORRIBLE!

Best: as an intern for a research study. No pay (i actually had to pay for the college credit hours, so I paid to have a part time job for 2 months) but it was amazing. Awesome people, and loads of fun interpreting data and implementing or case study to try to impact peoples lives. Plus, I got to be one of our main people to implement a community garden, which meant I got to play in the dirt all summer!

My job now though pretty much sucks. I'm working on it...
 
Worst: Bubba Gumps. I worked as a server there for 6 months and hated every minute of it. It was by far the worst restaurant I've ever worked at and yes I still remember all the silly Forrest Gump trivia and songs they had us memorize. Movie themed restaurants = headache.

Best: Carmel Coffee House. It was a tiny little privately owned coffee shop up a little cobbled alley way in Carmel by the Sea. The shop itself was absolutely adorable, the coffee was great because we roasted it there in the shop every other day and the boss lady was a riot. She was spunky, hilarious, sweet and so full of life. Best boss ever = best job ever.
