I was wondering, which would you say is the best Batman adaptation?

I'm going to say The Dark Knight.

I've seen them all and I think the most recent, was the most amazing. Great acting, great scenes, a really memorable film.

Hmmm I wanted to say Dark night, but its length and (compared to Burton's) lack of imagination hindered me the other way.

Batman Returns (It was either that or the first) was it for me. Tim Burton is the man, what a warped mind he has lol

By god if anyone says Catwoman - Forever or Robin will have to be hurt.

I am a huge Batman fan, I like all of the films apart from catwoman, forever and batman and Robin.

Nolan and Burton have a different look on Batman, Burtons is gothic and surreal, almost like the cartoon or somekind of dark take on the old Adam West show. But I do love Micheal keaton as Batman.

Nolan has taken the look of the Frank Millar comics which truley scream Batman to me , Villians are real , Batman is seen as a almost schitzo which he is , but thats what I love about him hes not the good or the bad but a balance of some kind.

I would have to say my Fave is The Dark Knight just was the sheer story and effects and the direction its self is fantastic , Nolan has the right look for Batman its not from the comic book but from real life. Frank Millar usualy does this in his comics, I epecially like the dark night returns . Yet Aan Moore has done some great work on batman , I wonder if they will use his work to adapt a film too .

I love Batman as a character.

And I know there's a bit of a backlash going on against The Dark Knight, but to me it's the best film for many reasons. I'm really critical when it comes to the Batman films, I don't ever think they capture the dark quality of the comics. I love Tim Burton as a director, really, but I don't like his version of Batman. I want realism, not cartoony. And I know I'm asking for reaslism in a comic book movie, be quiet.:tongue:

Anyways, The Dark Knight is a very well made movie overall. Great acting, great writing, great directing. Oh and I loved the music. And I mean a well made movie in comparison to any other movie, I'm not just comparing it to the other comic book movies out there. I'm really not a big fan of all the comic book movies that are being released actully even though I love the characters. And I don't need to say much about Heath Ledger as The Joker. It's a small minority of people who don't like his performance in this film. The crazy minority.😉 I think what he did was fantastic. He makes The Joker real.

I voted The Dark Knight. 🙂

Dark night i think it will become a cult classic becuase of heaths death. But i do like the batman with Uma Thurman as poison ivy..can't remember which one. But the old batman are so funny anyone remember "shark re-pelant spray?!" ahahahah

The Nolan films are the only Batman films that really do anything for me, although the differences between Nolan's and Burton's storytelling are evident and important. In Batman Returns, Catwoman's vulnerability and confusion are displayed through her torn and patched outfit, it's external and she wears her flaws on her sleeve. In a Nolan film, she would've probably had a monologue about it, that would've been wonderfully shot but ultimately just be spoon-feeding information to the audience. Still, Dark Knight was my favourite Batman film, but it's not one of my favourite films or anything.

AS much as I like the new semi-rebooted version, the original movie is still my favorite for three reasons: The first reason was Jack Nicholson as the Joker. I'm a huge fan of Nicholson. The second was how surprisingly convincing Michael Keaton, an actor known primarily for his comedy work, portrayed the character and wasn't completely upstaged by the aforementioned Nicholson. Thirdly, there was Kim Bassinger. Us folks from Georgia just HAVE to stick together.

I haven't seen any of them. My brother bought recently Batman Begins & The Dark Knight though. I'll watch them soon since I'm curious about Heaaath.

Why, Batman & Robin, of course!

No, I'm totally kidding. It's a tough choice between Batman Returns and The Dark Knight for me, but really, it's like comparing apples to oranges...Burton had a sort of cartoony, almost surreal look at the Batman universe while Nolan goes for a more realistic, gritty version. The only thing they really have in common is the dark mood.

Overall, though, I think I'm gonna have to go with The Dark Knight, if only for Heath's outstanding and sexy portrayal of the Joker.

Batman. sorry, Dark Knight is great, but lost its comic book movie feel. Batman gets me. i even tear up at the end when he's on top of the building and that music is playing.... and i dont like Bale as batman nearly as much as Keaton.

and why in the bleepin bleep is catwoman up there? its not a batman movie in anyway, in fact, no one even associates it with the batman movies, the whole origin of catwoman was changed in the movie, and just...no. terrible.

what happened to the adam west batman movie? why isnt that up there? that movie rocks my socks.

Burton's Batman films haven't aged well. They're good and Michelle as Catwoman is phenomenal but he made a couple of things too far-fetched. Penguin has never and I mean never ever been a child born like a Penguin raised by evil Penguins.

I understand making the character your own but don't do it to the point where it's not even the character anymore. Miller did something similar but it was believable since it was still true to her character by having Selina Kyle be a Prostitute in Year One Despite that I personally like and think Nolan's are better. What probably makes The Joker in The Dark Knight is that he's human he didn't go into chemicals and become crazy he's just naturally insane.

Nolan along with capturing Batman's ideology's and the character he makes a perfect Bruce Wayne. As much of a good Batman as Keaton was he seemed like a un-comfortable Bruce Wayne. Where he shouldn't Kevin Conroy captured both Batman and Bruce perfectly in Bruce Timm's BTAS and Bale and know understand the character.

Two-Face was also done brilliantly by Eckhart. He captured what Harvey Dent was all about and made a excellent transition as Two-Face people complain about the voice Eckart's Two-Face isn't about his voice it's the look in his eyes and the pain in his face questioning the law's and when vengeance and justice are needed.

So Nolan's film's for me.

As much as I like The Dark Knight, it simply was not a 'Batman' movie; it was a crime movie that had Batman in it. Nolan's Batman to Burton's Batman? they simply are two different movies, and to compare and contrast would do them both an injustice. For me, I picked Keaton's Batman as I still vividly remember sitting in the drive-in (yeah, I know) as the batplane flew up into the clouds, made the bat signal over the moon and came back down.

Nolan's films are great with an amazing cast and they really present Batman as a true character instead of the caricature he would become after Keaton left (and even for the most part in the second Keaton film), but to me, The Dark Knight was less a Batman film and more a crime movie. Now, if Angelina Jolie were cast as Catwoman I think she and Bale would have amazing chemistry and the fur could really fly. But Burton's was THE Batman movie... despite the greatness of Nolan/Bale.

The dark knight is my fav as it's the only film (other than begins) not to treat 'batman' as a comic book movie and rather as a movie of a comic book.

In my youth I like Burtons films but when I was about 17 started to dislike them as the made 'gotham' seem like a fairy world, it's like watching a nightmare before xmas featuring special guest batman.

How could I not vote for the 60s Adam West one? Back in my second-to-last school year, we put together a stageplay parody of that one (I played the Joker 😀 ), that stays with you.

I also liked the two Michael Keaton ones (the two later parts with Kilmer & Clooney were awful, their big-name casts notwithstanding).

Haven't seen "Batman Begins" or "The Dark Knight" yet - the more realistic, less cartoonish premise of those wasn't my thing to put out cinema money (or even DVD/VHS rental) for, I'll have no problem waiting till they're on TV. Ain't seen Catwoman either - nothing against Halle Berry, but I simply don't see Selina Kyle as a black woman...

Batman Returns and The Dark Knight are probably tied for my favorite Batman movies...Batman Returns because Michelle Pfeiffer rocked it as Catwoman and The Dark Knight because Heath rocked it as the Joker. AND I think I was one of the 5 people who really thought Batman & Robin's cheesiness was kick-ass.

But what gets my vote? THE SERIES WITH ADAM WEST!

Because Adam West on that show was my first crush ever...when I was 6 years old. 😀

NightBird agrees: Catwoman was played by a black woman in parts of the 60's show. Eartha Kitt I believe.

You're right! That was only in one ep of the last season, though (and the show was very much past its prime then). She was played by Julie Newmar in the earlier seasons, and Lee Meriwether in the movie.

I always hated when they changed actors in that series... like the three actors who played Mr Freeze, or that horrid one ep where it wasn't Frank Gorshin playing the Riddler but that guy (don't know his name) who played Gomez Addams.
