Best bingeables

I like shows that are like a good book - the ones you don't want to put down/turn off. I watch an enormous amount of tv in comparison to my younger years and think I have maybe caught up on all that is worth seeing.

What is your best go to binge? A world that takes you out of this one for a day? Not all great shows are great to binge, so I only want to hear about the ones that drag you in and submerse you in a fantasy land for hours on end. Why do you like it?

I could seriously watch The 100 again and just let myself be carried along by the flow of the story, such an easy one to follow and escape into, but I love it enough not to want to over-do it.

Despite Orange Is The New Black dipping and waivering, I definitely find it the best binge show out there. Just binged the last season in 24 hours.

Shows with a pretty specific formula are what do it for me; 1-hour drama, great ensemble cast, drama but not like a soap, humor, and well-written/acted characters.

Supernatural. Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel. Veronica Mars. Pretty Little Liars. Castle. Heroes.

Half-hour sitcoms are the same requirements: New Girl. How I Met Your Mother. Friends. Frasier. Will & Grace. My Name Is Earl.

Supernatural, Buffy, Angel, Lost, Merlin are super bingeable to me. Partially because they are all fairly light-hearted and have a mix between different genres in each episode so sometimes it’s mainly comedy, others it’s pure drama etc. I think characters are the most important bit of bingeable shows though especially if they don’t put too much emphasis on the action.

I’ll add that cartoons such as TMNT 2003, Gargoyles and Spectacular Spider-Man are very bingeable too, as episodes are usually just 22 minutes long so they’re easy enough to get through with a good balance of standalone eps and serialized storytelling.

Something fun and short and doesn't require too much of my attention.. recently it was Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

The Office, Arrested Development, The Thick of It, Parks and Recreation, Black Adder, and 30 Rock are usually on rotation whenever I can't find something new ..

Stranger Things, any of the Netflix Marvel shows (except Iron Fist), any Sorkin show, Halt & Catch Fire, How I Met Your Mother, Orange is the New Black, Newsradio.

I often buy DVD's of films and TV shows, what I've noticed is the older serials had 22 episodes whereas the modern stuff has only 12 episodes. Some shows have 4, 6, 8 9 or 10 episodes per season. A few shows keep high values on good quality scripts such as Midsommer Murders and Vera or 4 or 6 episode short stories such as The Living and the Dead. Many TV shows rely on long scenic shots, swearing or people getting their gear off for no reason.

My wife got me into Midsomer Murders and Vera and they are both great series. Midsomer had a variable number of episodes per season totaling 129 episodes and Vera only has 37 episodes, so even though they are long shows, bingeing is not that difficult.

Yesterday I binge watched most of the new Amazon show "The Boys", interesting show but very graphic in violence! A go to of mine is American Dad, or really any sitcom. But also Black Mirror, that's a show I like to watch 2 or 3 eps at a time. I also binge watched Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Of course all of Joss' shows are bingeable.

The pub crew are all into this big time too. I wasn't sure if it would be for me. I dont like the idea of glamourising prison (or druglord type tv) but my mates said it is more about survival. Which also rang alarm bells for me in the *triggered* sense haha. I am very tempted to give it a try since its so easy to access on netflix, but at the same time I dont want to be dragged down to the depths of despair. Its a very, very popular option.

Yeah I like those ones - even when it comes to sci fi (hence the love of The 100) I adore the soapy sci fi's that are slightly predictable but not enough to be boring. I had arrested development on the other day, but I think it has aged for me a bit. I might give Kimmy a go but sometimes the accents are so grinding after a few eps.

I have seen some midsomer murders but its a bit slower going for me. I like the things that I can let run and not miss out on too much if I leave the room (to chase bunnies)

As long as a show entertains me, I can binge it. Top shows that I tend to binge/re-watch are AtS, Charmed, That 70s Show, Friends, Kripke-Era Supernatural and Dawson's Creek. So, basically most of my 90s/early 2000s nostalgia shows.

@RachM you reminded me of TVD and those sort too - what else is on the CW that I may have missed? That formula just works for me.

Actually, I just had a thought - what are some of those older shows from the scify channel? I never saw many of them and I'd be they'd be perfect. Just enough entertainment and cheese but not too deep.

Some 90's stuff makes me hideously depressed, cos I liked the 90's and we'll never get it back 😭

I binge Buffy and Angel, X-Files, Lone Gunmen and Millennium, Farscape and Star Trek Voyager, whenever I can't think of something new I'd like to watch. I predict newer shows like Continuum, The Expanse and Game of Thrones will become binge type shows for me in the future.

I just finished "Bamd Of Brothers" on Amazon Prime in 2 days, and now I've started the BBC version of "Being Human," It's 7 Seasons, so, if I stick with it, it'll obviously take a lot longer than that.

I really want to go back and re-binge my 90s shows. I tried with Dawson's Creek a few years ago and I just couldn't even finish S1, so my love for that was clearly nostalgia 😀

I deep-binged Popular last year and paused in S2, but not for bad reasons. I really need to get back to it, cause that was an awesome show that, for the most part, still holds up today. Certainly more than most shows from that era (which is more new millennium than the 90s since I think it's from either 99 or 00)

Another one I got back into, right around Luke Perry's death, was Beverly Hills 90210 and, while it does not hold up as well as Popular, it's been fun to watch. I'll probably get back and continue my re-watch binge someday soon.

Other old shows that I grew up on that I want to return to; the high school years of One Tree Hill, Married with Children, Step By Step, Fresh Prince, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Ally McBeal.

I’ve really enjoyed binging (and watching for the first time) The Walking Dead seasons 2-8, I’d imagine it wasn’t as fun to watch week to week on TV but I’ll find out when season 10 airs.

But the ultimate bingeable TV show is Friends- 4 seasons can go by in a flash and you feel good the whole time.
