Which actors - from either tv or movies - do you think have the best on screen chemistry (either romantically or friend-wise)?

For some reason I was thinking about this last night as I was trying to fall asleep. So I thought I'd start a thread and see what you all think. I'm gonna leave out buffy and angel for now cause that's all I've been tending to think about lately. 🙂

Here's the list I came up with:

Romantic:
-Bill Cosby and Phylicia Rashad (I just loved watching their interactions on the cosby show - they really felt happily married to me)
- Steve Martin and Goldie Hawn (they play off each other so beautifully)
- Will Smith and Rosario Dawson (maybe you'll laugh but I definitely felt heat - especially in the way he looked at her in Men In Black)
- Meg Ryan and Andy Garcia (in when a man loves a woman)
- Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore
-Ben Afleck and Jennifer Garner (really wasn't surprised a real romance sparked from their roles on Daredevil)

Friendship:
- Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson
-Megan Mullulay and Sean Hayes (karen and jack on will and grace)
- Courtney Cox and Jennifer Anniston
-Richard Pryor and Gene Wilder
-Chris Farley and David Spade

I'm sure there were more I thought of last night but I guess that's good for now. Your turn. 🙂

Some old examples from an old man:

Best on screen romantic couples:

John Wayne and Maureen Ohara
Johnny Weissmuller and Maureen O'Sullivan
Burt Reynolds and Sally Field

Best friendships:

Bing Crosby and Phil Harris
Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis
William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy

haha, I was thinking most people on the board would think my examples were old. :-)

Totally agree about John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara!!
The first thing that came to mind for best on-screen romantic couple for me was Jeannie and Cpt. Tony Nelson (I dream of Jeannie), always thought they sizzled together 🙂
Second to come to thought is Buffy and Angel.

Friendships I'll have to think about.

I always loved Sandra Bullock and Benjamin Bratt. They play so well off each other! I also think Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler are great. Also, the cast of Dodgeball all seemed to mesh well together.

Dodgeball!!! It was so great, but it ruined Dollhouse for me. lol
Romantic
Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore (Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore have some of the best onscreen chemistry I've ever seen. They're so adorable together; I'll watch anything they're in together. 🙂 )
Courtney Cox and Matthew Perry on "Friends" (I don't think I've seen a more romantic and beautiful proposal scene, ever.)
Bill Cosby and Phylicia Rashad (I always loved how he could just look at her, and she'd get this beautiful smile on her face, as if they had a million inside jokes playing between them. So cute and so sweet!)
Tim Allen and Patricia Richardson on "Home Improvement"
Alexis Denisof and Amy Acker
Sarah Michelle Gellar and David Boreanaz (Even though I love both Bangel and Spuffy, I felt the romantic chemistry was much stronger between SMG and DB).

Platonic:
Megan Mullally and Sean Hayes on "Will &Grace" (Anyone that disputes this has obviously never seen the show.)
Jennifer Aniston and Courtney Cox on "Friends"
Adam Sandler and Rob Schneider
Nicholas Brendon and Alyson Hannigan

Interesting topic!

Romantic:

SMG and James Marsters- Don't think I ever really thought much about what it truly meant for two actors to have chemistry until I saw these two together!

Aly Hannigan and Seth Green- I love Tillow but for me the chemistry was so obvious with these two. It felt so real and organic.

Aly Hannigan and Jason Segel on HIMYM- Again, so organic and not a bit forced.

Mary Louise Parker and Romany Malco on Weeds

Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling in The Notebook

Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable

...and I'll third John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara

Platonic:

SMG and AH in seasons 1-5

Nick Brendon and AH- maybe the best I've seen!

Josh Radnor and Jason Segel

don't laugh but I love Kal Penn and John Cho together; feels like they could be great friends in real life

Wasn't sure which category to put Steve Martin and Diane Keaton in; just think they make a really great "team."

Ahh! I was going to say Vivian and Clark! I LOVE GWTW :)
Oh, I thought of one more. Jimmy Fallon and Queen Latifa (in the friendship category)...could be just that I love the movie "Taxi" but I think they're great together.

B
badwolf
haha YES!
Snyder and Joyce
The Dead Like Me cast
Bruce Willis and Cybil Sheppard (before they had sex)
Al and Peg Bundy

For both romantic and friendship
David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel

Romantic
James Marsters and Juliet Landau (more like sexual, but it was Spike and Dru's twisted romance that neither actor could have produced without the other. It was brilliant)
and I agree with like all of the ones mentioned before

Friendship
Courtney Cox and Dan Byrd (they have the best chemistry for a mother-child relationship that is also a friendship I can think specifically about the season 1 Thanksgiving episode Here Comes My Girl when Travis puts his arm around his mother when she's cooking... I have never seen a more natural child-parent relationship on television)
Dany Pudi and Donald Glover

And again, I agree with so many that have already been stated and I'm not going to restate them all

Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock (Speed, Lake House)
Meg Ryan with Tom Hanks, and Billy Crystal
Diane Keaton and Woody Allen
Diane Keaton and Keanu Reeves
David Tennant and Billie Piper (Doctor Who)
Gale Harold and Randy Harrison (Queer as Folk)
Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell (Overboard)
James Marsters and John Barrowman (Torchwood)
James Marsters and SMG
James Marsters and Juliet Landau
James Marsters with everyone he comes into contact actually..

Ooh yes, love the friendship in The Trio, and Spike/Angel friendship.
In movies the only pair I can think of and totally agree with is
- Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore
I watch The Wedding Singer at least once a month 😀

In pairings in series I will go with
- Chris Meloni and Lee Tergesen ( Keller & Beecher)

Friendship in series
- Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Jerry Seinfeld.

There's plenty more but I can't write all of them down..

Seinfeld :D
Lucy Lawless and Renee O'Connor, from Xena: Warrior Princess, spring right to mind. The chemistry between those two made the difference between success and failure for that show.

All of the "Core Four" on Buffy.

The whole cast of "WKRP in Cincinnati"

Ricky and Lucy.

Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki.

Judi Dench and Geoffrey Palmer on the UK series "As Time Goes By".

David Tennant and Billie Piper on "Doctor Who".

William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy.

John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd.

Bob Newhart and Suzanne Pleshette.

Carroll O'Connor and Jean Stapleton.

Robert Redford and Paul Newman.

Patrick Macnee and Diana Rigg on "The Avengers"

good ones!
I will probably think of loads more but one relationship that sprung to mind (perhaps because I just watched last week's episode) is Arthur and Merlin in the BBC series Merlin. They have such a good friendship - it is hilarious the way they speak to eachother. I know its master and servant but really theres a great friendship there.

Will come back with more when I have a think 🙂

I haven't seen that. would you recommend it?
kittenpoker - Yer i really would! its very light-hearted, good family fun! I love the legend of Arthur and Merlin from reading Malory and get interested when a new adaptation comes out. Its very exciting stuff and has got better and better with every series! Plus Anthony Stewart Head is in it too 🙂

Have to agree with AndrewCrossett - SAM AND DEAN from Supernatural - great relationship there too!
