I'm not talking about the ending of a season here, but of a single episode. What was in BtVS and AtS the single best end of an episode for you? The only rule here is that you can't pick a finale. So no 'Prophecy Girl', 'Becoming' and so on.

I know this is gonna be tough for all of you, but just pick the one that you remember the most, or that shocked you the most, or anything that could make one stand out from all the others!

As for me, for BtVS it would be Innocence. Obviously this was hard to pick(there are so many great endings), but this one stood out for me because of the awesome Buffy/Giles scene in the car, followed by Buffy & Joyce talking on the couch, with Joyce asking ''So what'd you do for your birthday?'' and Buffy replying ''I got older.'' And then the music playing ''Sleep tight, my love. Goodnight, my love. Remember that you're mine, sweetheart.'' Poor Buffy 🙁

For AtS it wasn't even close! NO other ending compare to Lullaby for me... Really good acting, the scene is extremely dramatic with Darla sacrificing herself for her baby, and then Holtz letting them go with the rain pouring ''I swore that I would show no mercy. And I won't.''

Your turn!

Omg, I love those endings!
I have a few that stand out in my mind:

Lie to me: The conversation between Giles and Buffy is just great

Beneath You: When Buffy finds out that Spike got his soul back is just so powerful and moving.

Prom: Class Protector, enough said

Intervention: When Buffy pretends to be the bot and Spike lets her know that Spikes feelings for her are quite real

Hush: When Riley and Buffy have that awkward silence

I could probably think many more but these are the ones that seem to leap out at me.

Karma for Intervention, that was pretty awesome.

By far the ending of Conversations with Dead People. The song wrapping up the episode... it's just genius. I get chills every time I hear the "alone." I just got chills thinking about it.

Good point. Even though I'm not a big fan of S7, that ending was neat.
The ending of Buffy vs. Dracula - when Dawn appears for the first time. I love the "Wait, WHAT?" reaction it gives you.

Also love the ending of Once More With Feeling, when Buffy and Spike kiss. The music there is just so wonderful, and its the beginning of one of my favorite TV ships!

New Moon Rising! because it's Tillow... and I also like the ending in Doomed, the last scene with Spike, it hurts to admit but that is funny!

Lets fight for puppies and Christmas, ugh vampires, nasty
I know it's not supposed to be finales but I love becoming part two purely for the song full of grace. However I also love a hole in the world.

Surprise.

Totally mind blowing and cliffhangery ending. First time watching I was so.. sad and confused and excited.

And Buffy vs. Dracula. When Dawn showed up in the end.. I was like, did I miss something? When? Where? What? :/

these are all really great!

I also love giles' sudden appearance in two to go (which I guess, technically counts as a finally, sorry) "I'd like to test that theory"...

every time I explode with applause. I love that.

I love it too!!!
How about "the earth is doomed" (from The Harvest, not Chosen), which signifies the beginning of a great show. Not a big one, but still signifies what's gonna happen.

not sure for Buffy yet, have to think about it more, but for Angel:
Hero
Reunion
Belonging
Lullaby
Sleep Tight
Salvage
Release
Peace Out
Your Welcome
A Hole in the World
Power Play

My favourite episodes ending are:

- I robot, you Jane, when they cheer Willow up by saying "my boyfriend is a vampire" and "I got almost eaten by a Praying Mantis" and then say "we are doomed to never find normal love" and laugh and then stop laughing and you see their smile fade and you can read "Oh damned" on their faces.

- Puppet show. Oedipus Oedipus!

- Lie to me, with the beautiful Giles and Buffy scene at the end.

- What's my line pt2: Drusilla is back and "going to make Spike strong again". It kinda looked like some religious walking painting. Beautiful.

- Phases. Woz scene. "I kinda like you in my way", "No biting tough", "You are quite the human", *kissonthecheek*

- I only have eyes for you. Spike standing up from his wheelchair. OHYEAH.

- Homecoming. Buffy and Cordelia losing the crown and leaving, completely disgusted.

- Consequences: Faith and the Mayor. The moment she turned bad.

- Earshot: "Yeah, if you are not to buzy having sex with my mum" *Giles stumble in a three*

- Fear itself, with the "Actual size" thing 😀

- Doomed. Spike. Need I say more?

- Restles: "At least you didn't dream about the cheese-guy"

- Into the woods: Xander's speech. Man. I always cry.

- I was made to love you: Mum? Watcha doing? Mum? Mum?. I get the chills and tears in my eyes just writing it.

- Spiral. Buffy going catatonic.

- Hell's Bells. d'Hoffryn telling Anya she can be a demon again. She looks so devastated, and her look when she looks at him. Just wow.

- Seeing red. The most Oh.My.Frigging.God. scene I can remember ever watching on TV at the time. Buffy shot, Tara shot, Willow crying...I really thought Tara would make it. It was traumatizing. Even more traumatizing to watch it now knowing she won't come back. Even more tragic when you think the only time Amber Benson appeared in the opening credit would be the last she appeared on the show.

- Lessons. Everytime I watch the episode, I rewatch that last scene like ten times. All the big bads, the music, the speech, Spike, and Buffy "It's about power". I love that scene SO MUCH.

- Bring on the night. Buffy speech.

- Storyteller. Andrew deciding he'll stop telling stories and turning the camera off. I love that moment.

- Empty places. Buffy leaving and asking Faith to take care of the Potentials.

That's one of the reason why I love the show so much. It has so many excellent last scene!

Two come to mind almost immediately:

"Wrecked." The image of Buffy sitting alone in her bed, stake in hand, garlic draped all around the room. What was she afraid of? Spike? Or what she would actually do if he did show up?

"Becoming, Part 2" (Okay, I know, that's cheating, because the question specifically excluded season finales, but this one HAS to be an exception) It is my favorite Buffy/Angel scene of the entire series. No Spuffy sarcasm there, either. That scene was without a doubt powerful single moment that Sarah and David ever shared. Chokes me up every time that I see it.

Well, I agree with what everyone has said, so I'm not going to repeat those. I'll add that the ending of Fool For Love is so touching, and sad. And Out of My Mind, when Spike wakes up from dream, realizing that he's in love with Buffy. I also like The Harsh Light of Day, with Buffy, Anya and Harmony all walking alone and lonely on campus. But the best ending by far is Faith, Hope & Trick- hello, nude Mr. Boreanaz in the house!!!!

Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered - " Do you know what you are, Harmony? You're a sheep." Most pivotal moment for Cordelia's character development, IMO. And it's hilarious too.

Passion

Lie to Me

Family

I was going to say Never Kill A Boy on the First Date and When She Was Bad but I remembered (Okay, fine, I checked the transcripts, okay?) that after the great Buffy-Giles and Willow-Xander-Buffy scenes respectively there are short ones with the Master and the Annoying One.

OOh Family. Great ending.
The end of I Robot...You Jane- Willow, Xander, and Buffy sitting in the courtyard of the school.

BUFFY
Hey. Did you forget? The one boy
I've had the hots for here turned
out to be a vampire.

XANDER
Right! And the teacher I had a
crush on: giant praying mantis.

WILLOW
(brightening)
That's true...

XANDER
It's life on the Hellmouth.

BUFFY
(cheerfully)
Let's face it. None of us is ever
going to have a normal, happy
relationship.

XANDER
(laughing)
We're doomed!

WILLOW
Yeah!

They all laugh together. Then it kind of sputters out, and they all sit there, incredibly depressed.

I'll mention ones I don't think I've seen here yet. If I had to pick one from Buffy and Angel each, it'd be:

Angel- Shells. The entire episode of Hole in the World makes me sad, but the end of this one feels even more depressing to me, with everyone finally realizing Fred is gone (and even Illyria missing what she's lost) and the Kim Richey song fits perfectly.

Buffy- There are a ton but I'll pick I was Made to Love You just because the ending was so incredibly shocking the first time I saw it. And oddly enough, the second time, lol.
