Best Episodes to Define Buffy

Has this thread ALWAYS been called this "Best Episodes to Define Buffy" because if thats the case, the episodes I chose don't, in my opinion 'define' Buffy.

There is a difference between picking a simple story arc that a group of teenage girls will enjoy and get something out of, and picking episodes that define the show.

^^That's true, but if she wants to hook her friends in, picking a simple story arc that a group of teenage girls will enjoy is probably a good plan

Erm, yeah BUT thats got nothing to do with my point.

I'm questioning the title of the thread - I don't remember if its been changed or not, but the thread title has nothing to do with either 'hooking' people into the show or choosing 5 of the best to show people.

It's name was changed by a Mod, but it's still the same idea as before.
Aly Fan agrees: It's name was changed by a Mod, but it's still the same idea as before.

Well the name is inaccurate.
This isn't about defining the show, its about choosing episodes to watch with people who haven't watched it before!

And no, I don't think they are the same thing.
I wouldn't show someone OMWF, The Body or Hush as the first episode because they are specials, they are the episodes that are irregular and I don't think people should see those out of context of the narrative because you would expect to see more like that - but because they are episodes that try something different, they do help define the show and what it is about.

1. School Hard
2. Surprise
3. Innocence
4. Becoming (part 1)
5. Becoming (part 2)

Ok well since the topic has now completely changed...

Welcome to the Hellmouth (doesn't get more defining that the opening episode does it)
Surprise
Anne
The Wish
Dopplegangland
Something Blue
Hush
Restless
Fool for Love
The Gift
Tabula Rasa
OMWF
Smashed
Conversations with Dead People
Chosen

These all make my list of best episodes to define Buffy...each one took the show to either a new level, a different direction, or showed just how brilliant Buffy is at its best. I could try narrowing it down to 5 but that would do the other episodes a disservice, I think these are all an equal 10/10 in my book, with most the rest of Buffy falling somewhere in the 9 range. Either way, to show any of these episodes to someone new to the series would fall a little flat because half of what makes them so great is that you know the characters first.

think funny eppisodes
thats how i got my friend into angel, by showing her Carpe Noctem.
when the old wee guy steals angels body
haha :') love that epp.

i suggest,
band candy
earshot
him
or tabula rasa

and then a serious one like bargaining part 1+2

or you could hit them with the musical ;D

Those eipsodes are pure entertainment, no doubt....but they don't really show BTVS in its true, raw form. imo, anyway...o.O
I personally got a few people into the show but having them watch a few of the end episodes of S5----they of course then wanted to watch the beginning of that seasona and then all other seasons!!

Also, I know many people thought it was a lame episode, but S7's "Showtime" I find to be pretty gripping.
