Best Monologues

Dark Willow - You're trying to sell me on the world? The one where you lie to your friends when you're not trying to kill them? And you have sex with a vampire you hate just to feel? And insane asylums are the comfy alternative? This world? Buffy, it's me. I know you were happier when you were in the ground. The only time when you were ever at peace in your whole life is was when you were dead. You said that yourself months ago, remember? Until "Willow" brought you back. You know... with magic.

Xander - They'll never know how tough it is, Dawnie, to be the one who isn't chosen. To live so near to the spotlight and never step in it. But I know. I see more than anybody realizes because nobody's watching me. I saw you last night. I see you working here today. You're not special. You're extraordinary

Spike - Buffy, shame on you. Why does a man do what he mustn't? For her. To be hers. To be the kind of man who would nev— To be a kind of man. And she shall look on him with forgiveness... and everybody will forgive and love. He will be loved. So everybody's okay, right? C-can we rest now? Buffy? Can we rest?"

Buffy - You know, I just woke up and I looked in the mirror and thought, "Hey, what's with all the sin." I need to change. I'm dirty, I'm bad with the sex, and the envy, and the loud music us kids listen to nowadays. Oh, I just suck at undercover.

I have to say the writers of Buffy are simply the best!! Since watching it, no other tv show is any where near as good! So kudos to Josh, Marti and everyone 😀

Angelus

Passion.
It lies in all of us.
Sleeping......waiting...
And though unwanted...
...unbidden...
it will stir...
...open its jaws, and howl.

Passion is the source of our finest moments. The
joy of love... the clarity of hatred... and the ecstasy of grief.

It hurts sometimes more than we can bear.

If we could live without passion, maybe we'd know
some kind of peace. But we would be hollow.

Empty rooms, shuttered and dank...

Without passion, we'd be truly dead.

Whistler

Bottom line is, even if you see 'em coming, you're not ready
for the big moments. No one asks for their life to change, not really. But it does.

So what are we, helpless? Puppets? No. The big moments are
gonna come. You can't help that. It's what you do afterwards that counts. That's when you find out who you are.

You'll see what I mean.

Spike

You're *not* friends. You'll never be friends.
You'll be in love till it kills you both. You'll fight, and you'll shag,
and you'll hate each other till it makes you quiver, but you'll never be
friends. Love isn't brains, children, it's
blood... blood screaming inside you to work its will.

*I* may be love's bitch, but at least *I'm* man enough to admit it.

Not a monologue, but..

WESLEY The walls don't press in as hard when you can't
see them.
ILLYRIA But they're still here.
WESLEY Yes.
ILLYRIA All I am is what I am. I lived 7 lives at once. I
was power and the ecstasy of death. I was god to a god.(looks
down) Now... I-I'm trapped... on a roof. Just one roof... in this
time and this place, with an unstable human who drinks too much
whiskey and called me a Smurf.(Wesley chuckles) You don't
worship me at all, do you?
WESLEY And you really can't leave.
ILLYRIA I... don't know.(looks up) And I fear in
any other dimension in this form I'd be but prey to those I knew.
(hangs her head) I reek of humanity.
WESLEY Don't flatter yourself.
ILLYRIA (looking over the skyline) Your world is so
small. And yet you box yourselves in rooms even smaller. You shut
yourselves inside... in rooms, in routines.
WESLEY There are things worse than walls. Terrible... and
beautiful. If we look at them for too long they will burn right
through us. Truths we couldn't bear. Not every day.
ILLYRIA (sighs) We are so weak.
WESLEY Yes. Yes, we are.

Riley:
I know how lucky i am right now - i love my job, and i love my wife. And maybe i made it worse. It's not about who's on top.

The wheel never stops turning. You're up, you're down. It doesn't change who you are. And you are one hell of a woman.

BUFFY:

SPIKE: Uh, I do remember what I said. The promise. To protect her. If I had done that...even if I didn't make it...you wouldn't have had to jump. But I want you to know I did save you. Not when it counted, of course, but after that. Every night after that. I'd see it all again...do something different. Faster or more clever, you know? Dozens of times, lots of different ways. Every night I save you.

ANYA: But I don't understand! I don't understand how this all happens. How we go through this. I knew her, and then she's...there's just a body, and I don't understand why she just can't get back in it and not be dead anymore! It's stupid! It's mortal and stupid! And...and Xander's crying and not talking, and I was having fruit punch, and I thought, well, Joyce will never have any more fruit punch, ever, and she'll never have eggs, or yawn, or brush her hair, not ever, and no one will explain to me why!

SPIKE: I dreamed of killing you. I think they were dreams. So weak. Did you make me weak, thinking of you, holding myself, and spilling useless buckets of salt over your...ending. Angel...he should've warned me. He makes a good show of forgetting, but it's here, in me, all the time. The spark. I wanted to give you what you deserve, and I got it. They put the spark in me. And now, all it does is burn.
BUFFY: Your soul.
SPIKE: Bit worse for lack of use.
BUFFY: You got your soul back. How?
SPIKE: It's what you wanted, right? (looking at the ceiling) It's what you wanted, right? And--and now everybody's in here, talking. Everything I did, everyone I...and him, and it...the other, the thing beneath--beneath you. It's here too. Everybody. They all just tell me go. Go...to hell.
BUFFY: Why? Why would you do that--
SPIKE: Buffy, shame on you. Why does a man do what he mustn't? For her. To be hers. To be the kind of man who would nev - to be a kind of man. And she shall look on him with forgiveness, and everybody will forgive and love, and will be loved. So everything's okay, right? [rests on the cross, his flesh starts to smoke] Can we rest now? Buffy...can we rest?

BUFFY: I love you so much, and I tried to make you go away. I killed you and it didn't help. And I hate it! I hate that it's so hard, and that you can hurt me so much. I know everything that you did, because you did it to me. Oh, God! I wish that I wished you dead. I don't. I can't.
ANGEL: Buffy, please. Just this once, let me be strong.
BUFFY: Strong is fighting! It's hard, and it's painful, and it's every day. It's what we have to do. And we can do it together. But if you're too much of a coward for that, then burn. If I can't convince you that you belong in this world, then I don't know what can. But do not expect me to watch. And don't expect me to mourn for you, because...[cue magic snow]
(I know it's probably against the rules of being a Spuffy to like quotes like this, but I don't care!)

BUFFY: You must be so disappointed in me.
GILES: No. No no, I'm not.
BUFFY: This is all my fault.
GILES: I don't believe it is. Do you want me to wag my finger at you and tell you that you acted rashly? You did. And I can. But I know that you loved him. And he's proven more than once that he loved you. You couldn't have known what would happen. The coming months are going to be hard, I suspect on all of us. But if it's guilt you're looking for, Buffy, I'm not your man. All you will get from me is my support. And my respect.

TARA: Things fall apart. They fall apart so hard.
WILLOW: Tara?
TARA: You can't ever put 'em back the way they were.
WILLOW: Are you okay?
TARA: I'm sorry, it's just...you know it takes time. You can't just have coffee and expect"”
WILLOW: I know.
TARA: There's just so much to work through. Trust has to be built again, on both sides...you have to learn if we're even the same people we were, if you can fit in each other's lives. It's a long, important process, and...can we just skip it? Can you just be kissing me now?

ANGEL:

LORNE: Ooh! ooh, oh, I'm sorry, that was a knuckle-buster. I'm Jake La Motta over here. It's pathetic. Here's the thing, Eve...you're gonna sing for me and I'm gonna read you right now. And here's one more thing. Winifred Burkle once told me, after a sinful amount of Chinese food and in lieu of absolutely nothing, "I think a lot of people would choose to be green, your shade, if they had the choice." If I hear one note "” one quarter-note "” that tells me you had any involvement, these two won't even have time to kill you. Oh, and anything by Diana Warren will also result in your death. Well, except "Rhythm of the Night".

ILLYRIA: We cling to what is gone. Is there anything in this life but grief?
WESLEY: There's love. There's hope...for some. There's hope that you'll find something worthy. That your life will lead you to some joy. That after everything, you can still be surprised.
ILLYRIA: Is that enough? Is that enough to live on?

There are so many more, but I'm too lazy to post them.

"I guess I was kind of new to being around humans before. But now I've seen a lot more, got to know people, see what they're capable of.... I guess I just realized how amazingly screwed up they all are. I mean really, really screwed up in a monumental fashion. And they have no purpose that unites them, so they just drift around blundering through life until they die -- which they know is coming, yet every single one of them is surprised when it happens to them. They're incapable of thinking what they want beyond the moment. They kill each other, which is clearly insane ... and yet here's the thing. When it's something that really matters, they fight. I mean, they're lame morons for fighting, but they do! They never -- they never quit. And so I guess I will keep fighting too." - Anya Jenkins

Anya:
You really do think you're better than we are....But we don't know. We don't know if you're actually better. I mean, you came into the world with certain advantages, sure. I mean, that's the legacy...But you didn't earn it. You didn't work for it. You've never had anybody come up to you and say that you deserve these things more than anyone else. They were just handed to you. So that doesn't make you better than us. It makes you luckier than us.

Loves it!
BUFFY
It is always different! It's always complicated. And at some point, someone has to draw the line, and that is always going to be me. You get down on me for cutting myself off, but in the end the slayer is always cut off. There's no mystical guidebook. No all-knowing council. Human rules don't apply. There's only me. I am the law.

Love that one!

Super thread bump, but A. I love this thread, and B. I love this monologue:

Willow:
Tara, it's not like I don't want my friends to know you. It's just...well, Buffy's like my best friend and she's really special, and there's this whole bunch of us and, and we sort of have this group thing that revolves around the slaying, and...and I really want you to meet them. But...I just kinda like having something that's just, you know...mine. And I usually don't use so many words to say stuff that little, but do you get it at all?

Willow: "The other night, y'know being captured and all, facing off with Faith... Things just - kinda got clear. I mean, you've been fighting evil here for three years and I've helped some. And now we're supposed to decide what we want to do with our lives. And I just realized that's what I want to do. Fight evil, help people. I mean, I-I think it's worth doing. And I don't think you do it because you have to. It's a good fight, Buffy, and I want in."
-Willow to Buffy

Buffy: "I was happy. Wherever I was, I was happy--at peace. I knew that everyone I cared about was all right. I KNEW it. Time didn't mean anything. Nothing had form, but I was still me, you know? And I was warm and I was loved--and I was finished, complete. I don't understand theology or dimensions--any of it really. But I think I was in heaven. And now I'm not. I was torn out of there--pulled out--by my friends. Everything is hard and bright and violent. Everything I feel--everything I touch--this is hell."
-Buffy to Spike.

Spike: "I do remember what I said. The promise. To protect her. If I'd done that, even if I didn't make it, you wouldn't have had to jump. But I want you to know I DID save you--not when it counted, of course, but after that. Every night after that. I'd see it all again. I'd do something different--faster, more clever, you know. Dozens of times, lots of different ways. Every night I save you."
-Spike to Buffy.

This thread has made me all teary eyed!

This monologue from Anya will always be my favourite. Always.
"But I don't understand! I don't understand how this all happens. How we go through this. I mean, I knew her, and then she's, there's just a body, and I don't understand why she just can't get back in it and not be dead anymore! It's stupid! It's mortal and stupid! And, and Xander's crying and not talking, and, and I was having fruit punch, and I thought, well Joyce will never have any more fruit punch, ever, and she'll never have eggs, or yawn or brush her hair, not ever, and no one will explain to me why."

Ben:
"She could have killed me."
Giles:
"No, she couldn't. And sooner or later, Glory will reemerge and make Buffy pay for that mercy, and the world with her. Buffy even knows that, and still she couldn't take a human life. She's a hero, you see. She's not like us."
