Question Best NHL hockey team?

I noticed a thread for Football/Soccer, so I thought I'd start my own on the off chance that there are some NHL ice hockey fans on here (being Canadian it's kind of in my blood).

So my question then (if such folks do exist) is what NHL team do you support, and why?

Me, personally I support the Toronto Maple Leafs (Or make-me-laughs as they are sometimes called) because they are close to my hometown...but I also support he Montreal Canadiens which is something of a cardinal sin in the hockey universe but I'm a rebel 😉
 
True, you can't argue with Lord Stanley...and I do appreciate the fact that msot of the really good players on Pittsburgh are Canadians (*coughCrosbycough*)...all in all I think Pittsburgh is a pretty good team. 🙂 I certainly cheered for them over Detroit!

I don't follow the sport too closely but I lived in Massachussetts for half of last year so I'm a Bruins girl 😀

Detroit all the way. 😀 Ok, not that fun now maybe since we lost the final but hey bad things happen sometimes. And it would be easy to think that my choice of team has to do with my nationality but I'm a bit older than that. 😉 I more or less fell in love, as you can do with athletes, with Yserman when he played in the World Cup here in Sweden. So when it was time to decide what team to follow there was two choices. Either Calgary since my all time favourite swedish player, Håkan Loob, had played and won the Stanley Cup with them or Detroit. But since Loob had come back to Sweden I decided to go with Detroit. And this was in the early 90's so they still hadn't won for a very long time. As a bonus I found out they had some other great players like Fedorov and Lidström. Not like Coffey and company were bad either. 😉 And luckily for me they've won the Stanley Cup a few times since then.

I was gonna say that I'm not that old. 😉 But since I'm older than you and obviously that old 🙂p) the only thing I can blame it on is that there weren't really that much NHL coverage here until the 90's. No matter how much I absolutely love Lidström he just can't beat Yserman. Don't think there's many if any that didn't think he deserved to lift the Stanley Cup. As it was with Ray Bourque. Even if Peter Forsberg played for Colorado I didn't want them to win but one really couldn't complain when Bourque finnaly got to win.
 
I definitely aknowledge that Detroit has some very talented players (Yzerman is definitely one of the greats), but I've never much cared for Detroit as a team especially in recent years.

My favourite player is a mixture between Maurice Richard (hence my love for Montreal), and Wayne Gretzky (which by all rights should make me an Edmonton or New York fan), and yet I support Toronto lol.

I'm only 27, so not like I'm old enough to have seen Richard play, but I grew up with Gretzky and watched him coach Team Canada to Olympic gold.

The first hockey game I ever went to was the Kings with Gretzky vs the Penguins with Mario. Awesome.

I remember back in the 90s ('97?) when the Red Wings had all those Russian players, the other team's fans would all chant U-S-A U-S-A lol!

Ahh. Fedorov, Larionov, Kozlov, Fetisov and Konstantinov. That was some good times. 😀 But that's only 5 russians. Compare that to the 8 swedes they have today. 😛 Means they could have an all swedish line.

Not that bad considering how small our country is.

I've been an NHL fan for about 8 years now, I support the NJD. WOOO MARTY IS GOD.

Although my fav player is and always will be Scott Stevens, he is the reason I support the devils, his hard hitting but LEGAL style kept me watching.

I played a demo of a video game and the two teams I had a choice of were the devis or the stars and I loved the devils logo, i then noticed some games on TV, lucky for me it was the final series of the playoffs devils vs the avalanches, we lost, but I was a devils fan and will be win or lose.

Watched my first stanley cup finals this year. Seen a few games in the normal season and playoffs. This is what happens when a canadian enters your life 😉 (isnt that correct tvnerdgirl)

So far i havent really got an out an out team. I have a toronto jersey cause i have been there and the missus supports them. Still to choose for myself tho...

I know i dislike Detroit..so i have the team to dislike LOL...just didnt like them as a team every time i saw them.

I like Crosby...good player, didnt have the best stanley cup series but what can you do when man marked and receiving cheap shots. Admitedly he responded with a few of his own but he needed to stand up for himself against guys that are bigger..so got my respect there.
