A slight twist this round.

The IMDb Top 250 movies lists the highest rated movies on IMDb. The top 10 is regarded as the best Hollywood has to offer.

You can only choose one! Which is your top rated of the top rated? 🙂

Am I wrong for thinking this is a very masculine list? Some great movies on it, though most of them apparently overrated, but for me it'd have to be The Shawshank Redemption

It is a very mascline but then Hollywood films are very mascline as a rule.

There are no leading women in any of those films, not one, from what I can remember of them, and it just struck me straight away as soon as I saw the list. Just thought it was an odd top 10 and made me question who votes for these things

Yet most people don't believe me when I tell them the movie industry is sexist. From now on I'll show them this list!

But really if you think about normally you have to go to more inderpendent movies to find the good female parts. I think things are changing with the likes of Tina Fey, and I guess in the past the likes of Jodie Foster and Geena Davis opened a lot of doors too.

But is this the top 10 best movies of all time? Where are the Billy Wilder films, Hitchcock, Frank Capra, Powell & Presburger etc. etc.? Where are the animations? Finding Nemo is better than half the films on that list 🙂

I agree with you on that, but then often IMDB and sites like that tend to go for more fashionable movies. Apart from the Godfather films I don't think any of the others would be anywhere near my list. Don't agree on Finding Nemo though. Its very good, but its not THAT good!😀

IMDb ratings are nothing but a joke anymore. They are flawed and biased. Their rankings have no merit. This list certainly doesn't represent the ten best films Hollywood has to offer.
A much less biased system is Rotten Tomatos, and their top 10 are:
Wizard of Oz
The Third Man
Citizen Kane
All About Eve
The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari
The Godfather
Modern Times
Inside Out
Metropolis
E.T.

Much better

That is better I agree.

I like this list much better!
Well I've not seem the Godfather movies, or Schindler's List or 12 Angry Men. It's been a while since I've seen the others too. I don't really like Fight Club and Pulp Fiction. So I picked Shawshank Redemption.

Suicide Squad fans would disagree.... 🙄
IMdB is indeed more fan based and fan favorites whereas Rotten Tomatoes is film review based and really has nothing to do with fans. That's why Rotten Tomatoes is a more accurate representation as the "top" films in the industry whereas IMdB is more geared towards universally 'favorited' films and more modern fare.

To reference your Suicide Squad mention, there is no way it should EVER have a rating of 6.7 out of 10. That's just ridiculous. That proves that their ranking algorithm is slightly askew. It was a bad, bad movie. It was fun and cool, but it was horribly edited, scored and written. No way it should have been 6.7.

There is a difference between liking a movie and it being considered a good movie.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly is my favorite movie ever so...
Had forget that it was in the top 10 on IMDb actually. I haven't checked IMDb in ages but the top 10 list feels quite static now. Think most movies has been there a long time.

/SK

8 in the top 10 are extremely violent. It tells us something about IMDB's voting base.

The Godfather. Can't count how many times I've watched it and never get tired of it. I lost my boxset during one of my moves however, very sad. Need to get a new one.

Finding Nemo is better than half the films on that list 🙂

I approve 😀

Umm the best Hollywood has to offer WTF? How does a film become a Hollywood film when that film wasn't made in America?

Take it you mean LOTR? Good point. I'm guessing it must have had Hollywood funding, and was produced through a Hollywood studio and of course features a lot of Hollywood actors. I think many big productions nowadays are very multi-national.

Hmmm I'm not sure I fancy any of them! I'm surprised ROTK is on there, it's not even the best LOTR film. I guess it has the most awards though.
