Spike filled a lot of different roles over the course of about six years in the Bangelverse. Which one do you like the most and why?
 
It was a toss up between S2 and 5 Spike. I went with 5 just because of how successfully they manage to change the direction of the character without making it feel like a different character. And Fool For Love is one of the best episodes ever too. You should have included 3 though as his one appearance in Lover's Walk is a stand out Spike episode and really important to the direction of him and the show.
 
I think my favourite is Spike on AtS, but honestly I like the character every season for different reason.
 
I prefer Spike on Angel because we see him without romantic entanglements yet he is more evolved. In Ats, we see on theme: his battle for supremacy with Angel.
 
Gah...tearing my hair out over this one.

I love Spike S2 as a baddie. Really enjoyed his character S5. It was nice to see him again on Angel and him not being all about Buffy, because Buffy wasn't what made Spike a great character but that's the road he'd been taken down.

Sometimes I wish that there was a way to see the character Spike had become as the result of great writing and acting go back and do S2. Basically to have S2 Spike with even more depth and confidence that JM found in the character as he played it.

That's my fantasy Spike. Full throttle Big Bad done by someone who knows the character inside and out.

Got some of that in Angel. Whee!
 
I couldn't choose, because Spike's evolution and ability to adapt to different roles is a big part about what zi like about him.

But, if I had to choose...I'd say comic relief/reductant Scooby in season 4.
 
Am surprised how many people actually prefer him in Angel considering he was in that show so little compared with Buffy. To me he was a more rounded character in Buffy if you think about the contrasts between him in seasons 2, Lovers' Walk and in Season 5 for example. I liked him in S5 Angel but I'm not sure he had such a purpose as he had during his Buffy run.
 
Season 2 Big Bad/reluctant ally.
People forget how many layers S2 Spike had as opposed to how one-note he'd become by S7.
Post- s2 he had so many possibilities for the journey his character could take.
I've always said that I like Spike's evolution, I just hated the cliche he evolved into.

I agree; S7 Spike was almost S3 Angel. Thankfully he got better when he switched shows.

I agree. But concerning him in AS5, different people and different scenarios (and different shows...) usually bring different responses from people. So, Spike in Angel is responding accordingly; but it is still the vampire who went through all that change between S2-S5.

I do love Spike and Angel together! They have great interactions. It's like a hate/love thing. They hate each other but still care for each other, and I find it hilarious! Plus I love petty Angel!

I do love Spike and Angel together! They have great interactions. It's like a hate/love thing. They hate each other but still care for each other, and I find it hilarious! Plus I love petty Angel!

I get that and its partly why I was looking forward to their interactions, but I still think it felt like Spike's role was slightly reduced and not quite as interesting as during most of his Buffy run. Still him and Angel were a blast together.
 
Hm, I do enjoy season 4 Spike, not everyone can come running in under a smoking blanket all the time and do it with some style... but I think it's Angel season 5 for me. Bestest New Little Brother indeed, as my current banner implies, I very much enjoy the Spike/Angel dynamic. 🙂 Also I felt like he was good fit for that show.

My first thought was season 2 big bad...
But the more I read and think about it I must say that season 4 Spike actually was more funnier to watch so that's gonna be my pick.

Season 4, it's nice to see him interact with the other characters before his fixation on Buffy started.

He also has some funny moments that season 🙂

Second place is a tie between season 2 (I liked him as a big bad) and season 6 (he's shirtless a lot of the time...).
