Best season ever?

S3 is my favorite season, just barely inching past S2.

Out of all seven seasons, S3 has the best balance between strong individual episodes and a season long arc: I enjoyed Faith/Wilkins as baddies and there are very few bad episodes. I also enjoyed how all of the main characters either got an episode devoted to them or just a chance to shine. Three episodes, Doppelgangland and both parts of Graduation Day, are in my top ten. Besides the occasional preachiness and some questionable episodes, I thought S3 was pretty much perfect.

And, I know a lot of people bash the shipping in S3, but I've never thought it was that bad. Bangel was blah and Xillow was, er, interesting, but as neither took up that much screentime (compare S3 Bangel to S2 and Xillow only lasted a couple of episodes) they weren't so bothersome to me. I love Woz, thought Fuffy was hot and Wordelia made me lol. Yeah, I liked Westley. S3 may have had lots of shipping, but I don't feel the season ever revolved around it (like Ruffy--haha-- or Spuffy).

yess, i also very much like season 3. soo many awsome characters are in it. Angel, Cordelia, Wesley, Faith, Anya & Oz are all added to the mix in season 3 making it soo much more exciting. also the mayor is one of the funniest villians from any of the seasons.

Season 3 exemplifies to me what BtVS was and is should be - a brilliant mix of comedy, horror and social angst wrapped around metaphorical storytelling and interesting characters.

Season 1 was cheesy of course ... but still enjoyable for the the most part. Season 2 kind of continued the cheese at first, but became progressively more mature, until midway through the season Buffy had finally found its feel. The last half of Season 2 ranks right up there with Season 3.

I think the show worked best as a high school metaphor, and so I think things start slipping in the post high school era. Seasons 4 and 5 were still watchable - and Season 5's "The Gift" might have been the best to place to end the series, given what came next. Season 6 - fans usually love or hate it. Personally I thought Willow's magic-as-drug addiction was the absolute low point of the series. Season 7 had a lot of potential but fell apart into a chaotic mess after the first couple of episodes.

All in all, Season 3 was the high point, and I tell people who are casually interested in Buffy but who have never seen it to start with Season 3.

I'm on my 3rd re-watch, so even though I say that season 6 is my fav, that might change when I actually get to it again. I have a hard time rating seasons 2 and 3, I love them both. Season 2 might win by a hair for me since we have Spike and Angelus (DB was fabulous as Angelus!), but I agree with everybody else about the consistently great episodes in Season 3. So, for now it goes 6, 3, 2, but just barely, and that might change. 🙂
 
Usually season 5 is on the top of my list, but I got to admit that lately i'm considering switching 5 with 3... Season 3 is almost perfect. Not any boring episodes. Lots of great ones. Also that season add new really awesome characters 😛
 
The hubby and I are currently watching this season for the umpteenth time, and yet still I always forget how great this season is. 😀 It also has my fave baddie, The Mayor. There are hardly any poor episodes in this season as well. Plus new characters are introduced by way of Anya & Faith. This time round we're getting to share how awesome this show was with our 3 youngest children too, and they have got to the point now each night where they beg us to put the Buffy DVD's on. lol

How old are your kids, edb? I let mine watch some, but I'm careful with some scenes with the older two. Um, esp sex scenes (6 & 9 yr old boys). Also, some things are a bit too scary, I make them close their eyes momentarily LOL. But the 3 yr old already recognizes Buffy & Angel, and when I'm playing the soundtrack in the car he asks if the music is from Buffy. 🙂 The middle one digs Buffy more than the others I think. I think I have a potential fan on my hands LOL.

My 2 eldest are 17, 15, then 12, nearly 11, which is all the boys, then our daughter is 7. :)

But we have 5 kids, 4 boys aged 17, 15, 12 (13 this Dec), 10 (11 in Sept), and a girl who is 7.

They all watch Buffy, but as we're only up to Season 3 with them at the moment, there are no real sex scenes for me to veto for the younger ones. lol

They are thoroughly enjoying Season 3, the whole badness of Faith...my 15 year old said she was 'hot' so at least he has taste lol

So that's a whole family of 7 of Buffy fans hehehe 😀

LOL that you got a girl after all those boys! We joked that it was one of the reasons we decided to stop: in all likelihood we would've had another boy, and even if we did have a girl, we would still have 3 boys! And it's not like you can trade one in: hey can I have a girl for this boy? 😉

We've got the full high school Scooby Gang, The Wishverse and Anya along with it, Jonathan coming into himself as a character, The Prom, Faith, Xander The Zeppo, dorky Wesley, The Mayor, Willow/Oz and all the cuteness associated with it, Spike in an awesome episode, Snyder gets his just desserts and of course the epic showdown between Olvikan and the Sunnydale High Class of 1999!

The only thing I wasn't so keen on was the brief Xander/Willow romance. It didn't fit their characters before or after and clearly served only to give the teens some drama during the middle of the season. However, it also gave us the very well-executed Cordy deathscare and led to the awesome Wish story-arc, so I'm not gonna complain.

To me, Season 3 is the Golden Age of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Long live Season 3!

You've summed up exactly how I feel about Xander & Willow. I guess I'll live with it because it moved along a couple of storylines, but I don't have to like it. 😉
 
Season 3 is a good season, but it's not my favorite. Season 2 and 6 are my favorite seasons of Buffy, but I did however enjoy the Mayor and Faith arc 🙂.
 
I've been torn from the beginning - but I think Season 3 may very well be my favorite Season. It's got so much plot that's so well put together. It's hard not to like this season.
 
Season 2 is a little better, IMO, I feel it developed the Scoobies more, the finale was better and had a better climax, evil Angel was great and (of course) lots of Spike.

Season 3 was still very, very good though

season 2, absolutely season 2. i wished i could go back to a time before i saw the season 2 finale for the first time. it. was. EPIC. and broke my heart.
 
It was actually one of my least favorite seasons. For some reason, the Faith/Mayor thing really weirded me out. Not them as baddies, really, but their relationship with one another.

Definitely my 2nd favourite season, only just behind Season 2. This season brought us so many good things for me and I rarely have anything bad to say about it. The return of Angel was excellent and just set everything in motion, Faith was awesome in this season and her & The Mayor are one of the coolest evil duos ever, loved that relationship they had because it showed that even though they were the villains they could still care for each other. Also not going to complain about the fact that Anya and Wesley are introduced this season either 😀 the story arc this season was one of the best and the final showdown in Graduation Day is one of the best moments ever in BtVS, also some of the best stand alone episodes like Amends, Lovers Walk (the hillarious and brilliant return of Spike), the Wish and the absolutely perfect Band Candy 🙂 not far behind Season 2 imo, really love this season.
