Best season ever?

I think for me Season 2 and Season 3 are tied. 2 was brilliant in getting all the ingredients of the show just right: you had the violence, the teenage development, the romantic stuff and finally a love interest for Giles. All worked very weel. In S3 I felt it was a bit more disjointed, what with the arrival of Faith and then her turning rogue, but it had its merits as well. I originally hated the character of Faith, but after a few re-watches and now that I'm a bit older I like her a lot more.

I like how in S3 Buffy really begins to come into her own and she seems like she's comfortable in her role as a Slayer, which contrasts rather well with the uncertainty Buffy faces as she continues in S4 and 5, where she doubts what she thinks she knows about herself, which is something I'm sure many can relate to.
 
I don't like it that much, don't know why. It's a good season, very good. But somehow I just don't like it that much. I do like it, it's Buffy. But it's one of my least.
Maybe because there is not much of Spike there.... Or because I'm not exactly a die hard Faith fan. Or because Bangel is so annoying in this season, with them breaking up and coming back together every episode. I liked them in season 1 and 2, they had a nice storyline. But season 3 really wrecked them for me. So that might be one of the reasons.
 
I think it was the best written season. The story arc is tight, the villains are dimensional and likeable, and the finale wraps up everything well, I think. It's not my favorite though when it comes to personal preferences. 😀

I don't think it was the best, but it sure is one of the best.

I think my favorite season is Season 6, but it's a close call between Season 2, 3 and 6.
And as Mr Giles said, there are some great Giles/Buffy moments. I especially like the ending of Helpless.
 
Definitely my favorite season. It breaks down to this: It's got the best +/-. Basically, the ratio of good episodes to bad episodes is through the roof. In fact, there's only two episodes this season that I really didn't like - Dead Man's Party and Helpless. And there are just so many good episodes this season, plus some unbelievable ones. Here's how I split them up:

Yeah, I honestly couldn't dream of a season that had a better episode breakdown. The percentage of excellent episodes is 32%. The closest season (IMO) is season 2, with 27%. Plus, there's the fact that season 2 has way more bad and mediocre episodes than season 3 does. I also happen to love the Mayor, he's one of my favorite BBEG's ever. And then there's Faith, and, as a Woz shipper, I have to love this season. And it's not just my favorite season of Buffy - It's my favorite season of any show, ever.

...Firefly was a close second, and Angel s5 was an even closer third.
 
Wow, I really love this season! I think that season 3 & 6 are tied for me. I just love Faith, love how the scooby gang is still very close, and love the mayor. The only thing I don't really like about it is Bangel. It's just too smushy and gushy LOL. But season 6 has it's problems too.

I liked season 3, but it wasn't my favourite.
I think that main reason for that is because Faith isn't my favourite character. I don't really know why, I just never particularly warmed up to her. Like, everyone loved that episode in season 4 when she came back to sunnydale and did the body swap with buffy. I just found that episode average. But i did like faith in season 7.
I loved the season finale of season 3 when the high school exploded. I generally prefer season 6 to season 3, but the season 3 finale was better i think.
season 3 also had some really good episodes and possibly the best xander centric episode "the zeppo" is that what it's called?? something like that... and i liked "gingerbread"
i've also found season 3 better on rewatches. like the first time i watched the prom, i didn't like it so much, but i found it better on rewatches (for one thing, i'm, a diehard spuffy!)
but season 3 had a couple of not so good episodes, like anne and homecoming. i didn't like those very much.
 
I LOVE season 3. It has and always will be my favourite. Mostly due to the introduction of Faith but also because I love the scene where the graduating class pull the weapons from their robes and give the Mayor hell. It is IMO the best finale because it leaves a lot open for new beginnings although it's sad 'cuz they're all embarking on different directions in life.

Some of the best episodes in this season (not in any specific order):

- Bad Girls
- Graduation pt. 1 & 2
 
Season 3 has never been much of a favourite for me. However it was the only season I hadn't seen when I was younger so maybe it was the lack of sentimental attatchment that didn't make it as good. I loved the stand-alone episodes, but I'm just not a fan of the storyline. I thought they really built it up to the seasion finale but I felt disappointed when it came to it.

I can't pick a favourite season but S2 and 6 are definitely up there. Seasons 3 and 4 being the least favourite.
 
I've always thought 2, 3, and 5 were the best seasons. My favorite is 2, but I do think 3 is the most consistent. 2 had higher highs, but it also had lower lows than 3.

Absolutely. Season 3 didn't have any episode that were as good as Passion, or Innocence, but it also didn't have anything nearly as bad as Go Fish, or Ted.

Also, I think your point is supported by this website. I don't know if people here on BB are familiar with it, but it is basically a compilation of 'best buffy eps' to make a definitive list. Obviously there's some stuff I disagree with, but even then it makes sense. Season 3 has less super-high ranked episodes than season 2, but it has the least low-ranked episode of any season.

For me, absolutely, without a doubt. While Season 2 had the best finale, I think (no happy ending, just logical expression of a plot), season 3 had the best Big Bad (wasn't he adorable and just so happy?) and so many great episodes that I watched over and over. It was the best season of any TV show ever, I thought.
 
This is a good question.... I loved season 3, and the main reason for that is the Faith arc. My favourite 3 seasons are the same as [MENTION=11555]Whirlwind[/MENTION]! S2, S3 and S5. S5 had the best season finale IMO out of the three, the faith arc was my favourite out of the 3, closely followed by Glory's and then Angeleus in S2. It's difficult for me to say any one of those three is my all time favourite - if I was pushed I probably would say 3!

For me Season Three had everything, tension, drama and fights and the little romances. And the Xander/Willow kiss which ultimately ended Cordelia and Xander (thank god!, Couldn't really see Cordelia's relationship with him at all...or her involvement with the scobbies).

It had everything. Season 3 followed through beautifully from the season 2 finale.
