Couldn't find a poll like this in a search... What's your favourite (TV) season of Buffy?
 
For me there's S2 and S3...and then there's everything else. Those two are, in my opinion, by far the best of the series, and between them, I gave the slight edge to S3. I like the final arc with Angelus in S2 better, but on the whole, overall, S3 is just so awesome. Faith, The Mayer, the Buffy/Angel arc, the Graduation Day finales, Band Candy, Lover's Walk, the Xander/Willow/Cordy/Oz arc, Wesley and Giles together and of course, the epic Buffy vs. Faith fights are all amazing.
 
Season 2.

This season is what changed it all for me. Before it, I liked the show, but I wasn't into the show. That all changed once I got into the nitty gritty of S2. "Surprise", "Innocence", "Passion" "I Only Have Eyes For You", "Becoming". All of these were what made me love the show with every inch of my being. Once I saw those episodes, I knew that I was getting into something that had something to say, a show that had a story to tell better than anything I had ever seen before. The characters were real, they weren't something that was completely out of the realm of reality. They could be someone that I knew, someone I saw every day in school, and never gave a second thought about. They were, and still are, the most realistic characters I've ever watched. The relationships were realistic as well. They weren't so out of place within a series that everyone knew, "Oh that can never happen". Again, they could be two people you saw out on the streets together.

And because, I'm a B/A shipper 🙂

Whilst season 6 is my favourite, I do think the best is Season 5. Anya is at her absolute best - "Triangle" "Checkpoint" the relationship from Dawn and Buffy goes from annoying sister to two siblings that love and care for each other is absolutely amazing and wonderful to watch. It's the season that gave us ''The Body'' ''The Gift" "Fool For Love''. Episodes such as ''I was made to love you'' shows a lot of skill with mixing a MOTW and an overarching plot. The complexities between Willow and Tara just grow- I love ''Family'' so much.

I chose season 3 but I could have easily chosen season 2. I love the seasons where Angel and Buffy are actually together but the show pumped out some great episodes while Angelus was causing all his havoc as well.
 
I chose five. I started watching from a little into season three and liked it instantly, I quickly became a fan, but season five for me took it to another level. The complex relationships between characters, especially Buffy and Spike (nothing against Buffy and Angel but the music they always played for them really irritated me).

But the real thing that really grabbed hold of me were the cliff hanger endings and WTF moments.

It's not the same now because I watch almost everything recorded or on DVD but from the end of the first episode when Buffy suddenly had a sister I spent every week anticipating the screening of the next episode.

In fact here in the UK it was shown at 6.45pm on a Thursday I think then repeated on Friday late night (after 11, times varied) so I started watching each episode twice - imagine my surprise when I watched the repeat of Smashed in season 6 and it ran a good two minutes longer at the end than the 6.45 version!)
 
Season 3. (To me, best to worst is 3, 2, 5, 6, 4, 7, 1)

I mean, I could explain why I love Season 3 with one word: Faith. I dearly love Faith, but that's kind of selling the season short. There are very few bad episodes in season 3 (despite how good season 2 was, half of the episodes were bad), and I like the storyline more overall (really, I see season 3 as Faith's story, not Buffy's).

What's really interesting to me is that, first time through, I thought season 2 was better than season 3, but looking back at it in hindsight, season 3 is better. I wonder if anyone else has felt the same way and why that's the case.

Yeah, first time though, I thought season 2 was better. But after rewatching both season 2 + 3, season three gets the edge. (Although it's really close) Faith is such a great character- going from a slayer to a murderer, and when it comes to the ''big bads'' I sometimes wish that we saw more of Angelus, Spike, Drusilla whereas I felt that The Mayor was used to its fullest extent, giving a very satisfying villain.

Season 2, although had a very strong arc and villians, had very bad MOTW- Go Fish, Inca Mummy Girl anyone? Although they did drastically improve- Halloween, I Only Have Eyes For You, Killed By Death season 3 was a shot after shot of quality: Band Candy / Lover's Walk / Gingerbread whilst we saw a storyline that just got better and better. And also, gotta love Wesley 🙂
 
I picked two, but really it's so hard to choose. I chose two simply because it gave us Spike. Honestly, though anything aside from S4 is great television. S4 is merely very good television.
 
Season 2 for me. It has everything in it: there's pain, love, joy, heartbreak, fight, personal growth. I think it's the season where the foundations for every character were shown, where things where hinted at, where the personalities began to shape and I don't know, it has incredible episodes and it's just complete for me.

Then come seasons 3, 5, 4, 7, 1 and 6.
 
For me its a toss up between season 3 and 5. In the end I chose 5, simply because it has the better episodes such as The Body, and the Gift.

And season 2 gets an honorable mention because of Spike and Dru's arrival.
 
My favorite is 5 then 6,2,4,3,1,7. 5 has it all,all the elements that made different seasons great for different reasons,but this time all in one season. It combines the sum total of all the writers and directors had gradually learned. It is the climax of the Buffy series and the greatest peak of the shows potential for producing artful,emotional story.
