Best Season or Worst?

This is one of my favorite seasons, I love like everything about it. It had alot of interesting stuff and that's why I love it. But my 2 favorite seasons are the 2nd and 7th seasons of Btvs.

I really liked Season 6, although I kinda wish the evil Willow plot developed over the season a bit more, rather than just lasting for 3 episodes. Warren and co didn't make very good villains i don't think..

season 6 had its good and bad points.

there was a lot of character development which I liked.
I thought willow going evil was good to watch but the way willow was going to end the world by raising that old building and the way xander stopped her I felt was stupid.

I found Season 6 to be a relatively good series overall, although certainly not perfect. The quality of the episodes varied. There were some brilliant ones (i.e. "Life Serial", "Once More, With Feeling") and some average or downright bad ones (i.e. "All the Way", "As You Were"). Experimentation was an important element of the season, combined with an obvious commitment on the part of the writers to take risks with the characters and storylines. There were some hokey concepts and villains and the season, saturated with darkness and preoccupied with the daily lives of the characters as opposed to some typical external threat, may well be described as the one that turned BtVS into a fantasy-based soap opera. It can be very funny times, deeply depressing at others, and sometimes even a tad boring. It's the most 'mature' of all the seasons, enjoyable in a way very different to those that came before it. As such, it's neither the best nor the worst of the Buffy seasons, but it probably is the most unique.

My favorite season is Season 2. It has everything: love, pain, funny moments, big moments, everything changed after that, especially the characters...Buffy was never the same and all the bases were laid for the maturity Buffy age that started in season 4. After season 2 I love Season 3, Season 7, Season 5, Season 4, Season 1 and yes, the worst for me is Season 6. OMWF was outstanding and there were really good episodes but overall I can't watch Buffy like that, I'm not enjoying the episodes like I do in the other seasons..plus, no Angel and too much Spuffy. :tongue3:

S6 is the best season ever. Buffy's depression is so entertaining, her relationship with Spike is really good and so sexy, Dark Willow is great and the magic drugs plotline isn't stupid at all.

Nah, just messing with you. I still hate it.

Honestly, season six is pretty close to being my favorite season. I can see why a lot of fans don't like it, however. It showed a negative side to most of the characters.

I thought Buffy had a justified reason to be depressed though. Being ripped out of heaven was devastating. She reached the ultimate peace and had to go back and live a life knowing nothing will be as great.

This season contains quite a few episodes I think are fantastic (Bargaining, After Life, Life Serial, Once More, With Feeling; Tabula Rasa, Smashed, Wrecked, Doublemeat Palace, Dead Things, Hell's Bells, Normal Again, Seeing Red). I liked Willow's magic addiction arc; I liked that Buffy and Spike finally got together; I loved that Buffy worked in a fast food restaurant to pay off debt; I loved that Tara got to be her own character for a bit.

I love season 6, it's so interesting and awesome. I liked the Spuffy action too, and Dark Willow was cool. This is one of my favorite seasons and it had good episodes.

Season 6 is easily my favorite season. It's very dark, and was a refreshing change of pace from season 4 (which is easily my least favorite season, with the exception of a few episodes).

Season 6 was a really uncomfortable season because it was so dark, and dealt with things you really didn't want to deal with, whether you were a Scooby or a viewer. Xander left Anya. Buffy got her naughty on with her arch nemesis. Tara died and Willow became an addict. But all that is what makes it real.

And then there's Spuffy. Because who doesn't love Spuffy? 🙂

I think it would be fun if there were a thread where we vote which season is best and/or in which order they are favored...

I think season 6 is really great... Some very good episodes there, plus it is a real good comeback for the show.

However I don't think it's the best. My order of preference is:

Season 2> 3> 6> 7> 5> 4> 1

So Season 6 is one of the best but not the best one in any rate.

Is this the best or the worst season? I'll go out on a limb and say it's the bravest season.

I honestly think that when you try something new or different or attempt to take the show in another direction, there's going to be a risk factor. I think we can all agree on that but the debate comes from whether the pay off is worth it. I'll tell you what, I'll be brave and say hell yes.

If you want a perfect season? The closest you'll probably get in Btvs is Season 3. However Season 6 like Season 2 has themes or episode that make me forgive it's imperfections.

Is this season too dark?

When I first watched this season, I didn't know what to expect. There were so many pivotal moments that shocked and astounded me that I honestly had to question whether I was watching a different show, but looking at it more closely I realised that the reason it affected me is because it could. When I'm watching a show, I don't always want to be a passive viewer, I want to be an active participant, cheering or jeering my favourite characters as they progress, develop, lie or fail. Because our heroes were plunged into such harrowing depths, it brought me out of my comfort zone, forced me to reassess the characters and subsequently enjoy the show on a new level.

I'd contend that the season was more existential than simply dark. I revelled in the whole 'where do we go from here?' theme, which was fitting seen as I was going through something similar at the time. Having Buffy deal with the realities of life was a dangerous move. The show for many of us was a tool of escapism but for me it was also a source of identification. It depicts how we can be prisoners of our own choices. It also depicts characters not always learning from their mistakes and occasionally regressing.

This season is in fact the worst season of the Buffyverse IMO.

Season 3 > 5 > 2 > 7 > 1 > 4 > 6

I think it could be both. It isn't saying much, but a season whose episodes have been disturbing and unagreeable to the most of us, who need also fun, light and less tension between the characters, but it was necessary. After the end of the 5th season, a 6th one all dawns, sunsets and singing birds would have been even worse of the dark age our characters go through, and that every human being has in his own life. Even though not all together XD. Annieway... my preference list is:

Season 3> 5> 1> 7> 6> 4> 2

I disagree when people say that S6 was dark, and therefore interesting because it wasn't afraid to be dark. To me it's like... imagine each season as a painting. Most seasons are a canvas covered in a fantastic, kaleidascopic array of colours, each shade in the spectrum swirled together. S6 however is like a completely black canvas. No other colours - because nothing other than bad things happened - just plain black. That is why I find it so boring - I could stare at the first picture for ours, marveling at the different colours together. The second picture is jsut black. Nothing interesting there, just a block colour.

I'm not a huge S6 fan and mostly it's because of the trio.

they just bug me.. Dunno why.

Individual eps are great but as a season overall that (S6) and S4 are my least favs.

I think it's safe to say The Trio is what gives season six such a bad rep, but in all honesty this season gave us great, memorable episodes! OMWF, Tabula Rasa, and Wrecked to name highlights. It isn't the best in my opinion, but it isn't the worst. So, I say neither. 🙂

I am on this season right now, and it's kind of a drag for me. I love Willow and Tara's relationship too, and I really like the three Geeks; but I don't like Spike and Buffy being together that much (although I'm a big fan of both), and all the real life problems are a little boring. Perhaps most of all, I miss Giles.
