Best Season or Worst?

hi all,
i'm new to here but i have to say that my favourite season has to be season for multiple reasons including
1) angel being bad and hotter
2)spike and drusilla are introduced and spike isn't all wimpy and in love with Buffy
3) jenny calender getting killed and Giles becoming pyro man.
4) Willow and oz finding each other
I could go on but I feel I may end up listing every single episode
and as for my worst season it has to be season 4 again for many reasons but mainly because of Riley and the neutering of Spike which I just cannot forgive!!

People will probably shoot me for this one, (takes cover), I think Buffy Season Six was right behind Season Four on the worst seasons list for multiple reasons:
-Buffy spent most of the season depressed
-Willow and Tara break up
-Tillow gets back together but then Tara is shot by Warren
-Buffy and Spike love affair which degraded Buffy and Spike's character
-Xander leaving Anya at the altar
-Normal again

Ok, I agree with you on most parts. Hate seeing Spuffy sex and Buffy depressed.. don't care much about Tillow because I'm not a fan, Xander leaving was bad, but why Normal Again? It was a good episode, not best, but we saw the way how it could be if Buffy stayed in that institution for the first time they've put her there.

It's just Normal Again implied the possibility that the Buffyverse isn't even real
Hey everyone. I'm a newbie here 🙂

I get why some people don't like season 6, but I think it's one of the best seasons. I absolutely love it and not just because of Spuffy 🙂

I really love how life is the "Big Bad." Before season 6, you always had the main villain as a supernatural being. But, what really is the biggest obstacle, challenge, difficulties that Buffy and everyone can face? In this season, it was growing up, making tough choices, and learning more about themselves. What we all experience in life. And by the end, they all came out stronger.

And, maybe I'm in a minority, but I found the trio hysterical. It was an interesting twist that these "villains" were the comic relief, when we usually expect it from the Buffy and the gang.

Overall, I found the season to be really unique compared to previous seasons. I really can't rank all the Buffy seasons because I love them all (maybe season 4 would be my least favorite), but season 6 is definitely one of my faves. 😀

I can appreciate what the writers were trying to do with the arc and with the characters .... but it just didn't fall through for me. The magic-as-crack metaphor with Willow was too over the head, and I think the absolute low point of the entire series. The Trio were good for a few laughs, but otherwise ridiculous as a Big Bad. And Buffy's depression just became too meandering after a while.

I'm actually 50/50 on this one. It's not the best season and it's not the worst.
Pros:
-they bring Buffy back duh!
-Once more with feeling(need I say more)
-Willow does kills Warren
..actually i think those are the only good things that happen lol
Cons:
-they bring Buffy back from death (sad for her)
-Buffy is mopey way too much
-Willow and Tara break up(boo!)
-Warren shoots Tara
-Willow goes all crazy.

I guess It's more like, I really like it because the characters are out of their usual element, but at the same time it was soooo depressing! Even Joss Whedon thought it had been too depressing for a while and wanted to "bring her back"

Best season of BTVS for me. I like the darkness of it, enough said I think.

I don't understand the season 6 hate either, this ties with season 5 as my third favorite season of Buffy. I love the darkness and magic too, and I love the Trio!

I absolutely HATE this season. I never thought I could ever say I hated an episode of BtVS let alone a season but I do.
-For starters, I'm sorry and no offense to those who like them.... the Troika/Trio are the lamest Big Bads in the 'verse history. Buffy toppled an historic vampire, stopped acathla from sucking the world to hell, squashed a genocidal Mayor from ascension, foiled an entire military group plus their Frankenstein monster before finally stopping a GOD from melting our dimension and now she faces three nerds she went to High school with?!!! WTF!
-Love is obliterated in this season. 100% love roadkill. Spike and Buffy get together before finally ending it and having Spike try to rape her. Willow and Tara break up after Willow essentially mind rapes her and abuses the magic. Xander leaves Anya at the alter. Dawn has one date and he's a frakkin' vampire! This is totally unforgivable to destroy every couple in the show all at once. I watch BtVS for the great characters and love interests as much as anything else.
-The moral of this season seems to be life sucks. You know what, I know life sucks, you don't have to drill it into me by having every possible bad thing happen to every character.
-Characters are assassinated either by destroying the characters' personalities or actually killing them off. Xander becomes a washed up loser who abandons his fiance when she needs him most, Anya tries to betray her friends and becomes a vengeance demon again. And Willow, where do I start with Willow.... she goes off the deep end with the magical addiction and nearly gets Dawn killed. Let's not forget miss mops all the time Buffy, geez was she annoying all the time.
And the most unforgivable act ever on BtVS IMO, they kill off the sweetest character ever in her first episode as an official regular character, right after she gets back with the love of her life, Tara. Oh how that boils my blood. Killing off Tara is an egregious mistake.
-WARREN!!!! Warren Mears' very existence makes this season the all time worst. I hate him with such a passion it gets to ridiculous levels. I will say I thoroughly enjoyed seeing him filleted. So that is one good thing about s6.

Over all I can say with utmost confidence that this is my very least favorite season of not just BtVS but the whole 'verse.

I love season 6 but I never thought of all the thrashed love affairs happening all at once. That's interesting.
Whenever any couples became happy it was ripped away from us. The big bad of S6 was Willow because of the loss of Tara, the trio were not the big bad of the season. I was obviously sad to see the death of Tara one of my favourite characters but because of it, it has impacted it being my favourite because it's something that sticks out as so heart wrenching, and gives a chance for Willow etc to take a different path to follow. I can't see how Tara sticking around could of improved S7 to be honest.

But, I think s7 was good. Little or no improvements needed there :)
I get your hatred for the season I do, but if we hadn't had the Trio there (which in and of themselves were a sign that Buffy was not at her best as she couldn't even beat them) and instead we would have had a 'real' Big Bad before Dark Willow emerged - don't you think that the season would just have been gloomier, darker and all the more depressive?

If Buffy couldn't even handle the nerds wouldn't a big bad demon just have spent the season kicking her while she was down, over and over again?
And since a lot of the complaints are that s6 is too dark - then wouldn't the abscene of the Trio - just have made it worse for you?

Get a better Big Bad.

Nope, the fact that she couldn't handle the nerds was bad writing. Get better writers.

Nope, because the Trio weren't funny, they were just boring, half-assed cliches. Get funnier characters.

Agreed 100%
I'm on the fence.
I really want Spuffy to have a heathly relationship, and this season just isnt it!
I looooove dark Willow! Such a badcookie!

I absolutely HATE this season. I never thought I could ever say I hated an episode of BtVS let alone a season but I do.

Well, I probably won't be able to convince you why this season is one of my favorites then, but I can try 🙂

WTF!

For me, that was always the point though. They were suppose to be the lamest Big Bads Buffy ever faced because let's face it...they wasn't anything supernatural about them. They only learned how to do magic and summon demons, yet they weren't very good. They also simply made inventions. I mean even when Warren asked them if they wanted to "team up" and take over Sunnydale, Andrew and Jonathan were like, "Okay." Sure, why not? Sounds like fun. Before that, all the other villains had a real objective to their plot, which Buffy always took seriously because it usually meant the end of the world.

But, Buffy never took the Trio "plotting" seriously because she never saw them as a legitimate threat. And as a consequence of that, they were able to spy on her and her friends without her noticing, they played around with her "weaknesses," they almost convinced her that she committed murder, Tara got killed by Warren, etc. I felt the parallel was that if you keep ignoring your problems, even the ones that are right in front you, they are going to pile up and come back to hurt you and those around you. And the Trio was exactly that to Buffy.

Well, I didn't really care for Dawn losing out on love, so I'll give you that if you were upset. 🙂 With Willow and Tara, although Tara died, they did get back together. Tara forgave Willow for what she did and they were able to reconcile. Yes, it was tragic that that relationship ended when Tara died, but knowing that they had so much love for each other in the end helped me ease the pain a little. I know it may be unforgivable, but it triggered the evil Willow plotline and Xander saving the world.

With Xander and Anya, it wasn't like love died when Xander left her at the alter. Yes, Anya was crushed and felt that Xander didn't love her, and I didn't like Xander for humiliating her in front of everyone. But he did tell Buffy and Willow that he still loved Anya and wanted to be with her. He just wasn't ready to get married.

And with Spuffy. Oh, where do I start? 🙂 Yes, the foundation of their relationship wasn't healthy in s6, at least from "Smashed" onward. Yes, Buffy used Spike in order to feel alive again and called it off because of that (and I actually applaud Buffy for ending it, and I'm a Spuffy shipper). Yes, Spike was completely wrong for attempting to rape her. All the usual arguments. However, love wasn't obliterated. Their relationship definitely took a turn for the worse, but it didn't end there. It was part of their journey, which eventually led to s7 Spuffy.

-The moral of this season seems to be life sucks. You know what, I know life sucks, you don't have to drill it into me by having every possible bad thing happen to every character.
-Characters are assassinated either by destroying the characters' personalities or actually killing them off.

For me, I never really see it as destroying the character's personalities. Instead, I see it as the characters growing, or exploring other sides to their personalities which could lead to better or worse things. It's one thing if one doesn't like the change, but come on. Have any of us stayed exactly the same in 6 years straight? 🙂 We've all grown in some way and learned from our mistakes, which is what all the characters did by the end of s6.

-WARREN!!!! Warren Mears' very existence makes this season the all time worst. I hate him with such a passion it gets to ridiculous levels. I will say I thoroughly enjoyed seeing him filleted. So that is one good thing about s6.

I agree with you to an extent. As much as I thought Warren deserved death, it was sad that it was at hand of Willow. I know it was evil Willow, but
it was still left on her conscience in s7. She felt guilty over it. But, as a result, she was able to learn how to control her powers.

Yikes, I apologize for the super long post.

I love it, but I hate it. We get to see Willow develop more as a witch, and Willow and Tara develop a little more as a couple. They have their first real fight, which I don't think should have ended the relationship, I think Tara was being too dramatic, but still. They breakup, and makeup, but I hate it a lot because Tara's death is so horrific. Right in front of Willow, and then Dawn's in the room with Tara's body because she shouldn't be alone? WHY DID NO ONE CALL AN AMBULANCE FOR TARA?! That's always bothered me.

I do think Warren got what he deserved.

We did get to know our characters a touch better, but it felt like they were just running out of ideas and just threw darts at paper. They came up with big bad, Warren, Andrew, Jonathan, Willow, Evil, etc. Grasping at straws, I thought.

On a side note, there's a really good trio of books that take place before the end of the 6th season that stretch it on a bit longer. Great writing, but it all ends the same and made me angry. They alluded to the thought that Willow could bring Tara back, but nope!

I wish Tara would have come back like Joss envisioned.

LMAO at your banner. That scene with poor Dawn. I think Willow just left and didn't think to call an ambulance.
That would totally be my first instinct... Unless, for some morbid reason, she wanted Tara there when she got back?

[...]the Troika/Trio are the lamest Big Bads in the 'verse history.[...]

I don't see Warren, Jonathan and Andrew as the "Big" Bads. For me they're more like the "Bads".
The "Big" Bad is Willow in my opinion. It's really interessting, because she is (or has been) one of the Scoobies and it's cool that Xander saves the world and not Buffy.
Xander and Willow have always been the sidekicks and now they're on one side the hero and on the other the Big Bad.
It's my favorite season because of that fact.
I kinda like Willow and Xander better than Buffy and they deserve to be in the focus for the finale of one season after they played more the "minor roles" for 5 years.
