Best season premieres of Buffy and Angel

Which Buffy and Angel season premieres do you consider to be the very best and why do you think so?

For me, the very first episode of both series is the most iconic of all the series opening. Not sure if it's the best, but it's my favorite because both are such a staple of the series.

Agreed. 'Welcome to The Hellmouth' and 'City Of...' are the two best openers of each show, which set the coda for the series.

To be honest, a lot of opening Buffy eps are very weak. 'When She Was Bad', 'Anne' and 'The Freshman' are all really uneven. Although I like the 'Bargaining' 2-parter and 'Lessons'.

All of Angel's opening eps are very strong. 'Judgement', 'Heartthrob', 'Deep Down' and 'Conviction' all manage to be good stories while setting the tone for the coming season- redemption, romance, father/son relationships, the battle with W&H. All really good quality. 🙂

Like [MENTION=8404]Blaze[/MENTION], I like the first episodes of both shows because the question at the time is, "What is this show going to be like?" and it gets answered.

But for Buffy, the Season 6 double opener, "Becoming Parts 1 and 2" are my favourite. Willow killing a fawn, the tension leading up to the resurrection, the bikers interfering with the spell and the most spectacular scene in the series, Buffy being reconstituted in the grave then breaking free and wandering the burnt-out town in a daze still in her burial clothes and everyone realizing that the real Buffy was back and it was not the Buffybot are the most memorable opening sequences of any season.

We have threads going on about the most memorable scenes and the reconstitution of Buffy in the grave has to be the most memorable in the entire series.
