Best season?

I can't decide if season 3, 2, or 5 is the BEST season? What are your guys thoughts?

Also, what are (is) your favorite episode(s)?

Mine are Graduation Day Part 1/2, Lover's Walk, Doppelgangland, Earshot, and Enemies.

2 has some really high points, as well as some of the most iconic moments of the series. However, it also has more outright mediocre to bad episodes than either season 3 or 5. Season 3 really one has one mediocre episode (name is escaping me, the one with the witch hunt). Season 5 also only has one bad episode ("Buffy Vs. Dracula"). All of these seasons have great villians. It's close between three and five for me, but in the end, I have to give it to season 5. It's just overall a more adult season of television, but still featuring great humor and Buffy-esque qualities. It doesn't have Faith but I'd say it definitely has a few really classic episodes (of particular note are "The Body" and "The Gift").
 
It's a toss-up between seasons 3 and 5. Both of those seasons have a very high concentration of great episodes and very few bad or mediocre ones...in fact, the only truly "bad" episode I can think of from either of those seasons is Dead Man's Party, and even that has a lot of redeeming qualities. I'm trying to decide on one of those two, but I just can't!

I would say season 2 is my favorite, but when I think about it, the first half or so of it is really mediocre. It only gets really good after Angel loses his soul, and even after that, only the main arc episodes are real standouts (as much as I loved Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered). My feelings towards season 6 are similar...the very beginning and end of it are great, but with the exception of Dead Things, the episodes in the middle are all pretty bad.
 
My favorites, in order: 2,6,3,4,7,1,5

I guess i have preferred the seasons where the main big-bad arcs were a little more life-based or emotion-based, rather than monster-based. So aside from all my most-favorite episodes being in seasons 2 and 6 (OMWF, Becoming, Passion, Innocence), i found the arcs very realistic. Dealing with a major change in a loved one or dealing with the difficulties that life throws at us just resonated more with me than fighting a god, really-old-vampire, source of all evil personified, cyborg-turned-evil, or mayor-who-wants-to-be-a-big snake. I did enjoy lots of the sub-arcs in the other seasons, though, and lots and lots of individual episodes. Just as a whole, 2 and 6 resonated most with me.

In Angel, 5 is definitely my favorite and 4 my least favorite. I guess 3, 2, and 1 were pretty close for me in the middle of 5 and 4, with a slight preference in that order.

Season 6 tops it because I love how it makes life out to be the Big Bad. And, I mean, who can't empathize with that?
Reaching adulthood is like being reborn even though it really wasn't your decision - that's how it's meant to be. Things start to plague you - too many bills, having to find a job, people getting in your way every now and then, your new job is a drag, people around you die, you sing, you dance, you live, you love, and you get hurt. Season 6 shows us that the characters in "Buffy" are just like us. It lets us know that everyone hurts and everyone does wrong, but those things alone don't mean that it's the end of the world. In a way, it's almost like a comfort.

Season 5 comes in second because I liked having to see Buffy deal with more things than just vampires, demons, and relationships. Dawn's introduction and Joyce's death play heavily on that. And Riley leaving simply makes me rejoice. Xander begins growing up and finding his way was another thing I liked about this season. I almost wish the episode "Restless" was a part of this season as to me, it feels like part one of a two-parter with "Buffy vs. Dracula".

Season 1 will forever be my least favourite. I recently re-watched every episode and could not pinpoint exactly one S1 episode I liked very very much. "Nightmares" and "Prophecy Girl" come close but are not quite there. I was almost thankful it was 12 episodes long. It has many episodes that are stand-alone, and this I didn't like. One of the reasons I enjoy the series as a whole is because there are storylines portrayed throughout a season that allow for plenty of character development and a more understandable plot. Because of this, S1 stands alone in my opinion.

Season 3, by far. And I'll give you some reasons why...It had Faith for more than just a measly couple of eps, Spike pre-chip, Bangel, and lets not forget Dick! He rocks.
 
My order: 2, 3, 5, 4, 1, 6, 7

I know this may sound weird, but my favorite season is #2, but the best overall season is #3. The wife likes #5, as does my daughter (who has this obsession with Glory).

I am a huge Bangel fan, if that helps with my reasoning. I personally love the story arcs for #2 and #3, but the Angelus arc in #2 wins out, although I think the Buffy series hit it's best writing and direction in #3.

After going through and watching (in order) the first time, I found season #4 to be my least favorite, but upon watching through again and again, it has grown on me. It is a shame the season-arc for #4 wasn't better, but the episodes taken on an individual basis make up for it.

Season #6 is getting better with repeated viewings, but I find #7 hard to watch until Faith shows up.

#1 is fun just for the newness of it all and nostalgia's sake. Also, 1-7 Angel and 1-12 Prophecy Girl are great episodes.
 
My order would be...6/3/7/5/2/1/4

I love season 6, it was the first season i ever saw and i just love how dark it gets...and the big bad for all of the characters in this season is life...and trying to grow up and take responsibility. I love Dark Willow, i think it's on of the best written final arcs to a season. I think season 3 comes in a close second because of the consistantly good episodes...except the Zeppo...i really don't like that episode.

Favourite episodes include Choices, Hush, Family, Tough Love, The Body and the list goes on.

Oh wow I just did.

It's pretty touch and go between the first four though.

I believe S5 was greatly written. It had great comedy, great drama, and also the best episode of the show ("The Body"), everything was going smoothly and was logical, prepared even : Buffy's death wish, Buffy/Dawn relationship... It also packed things up for S6 (Buffy becoming the adult of the family, Willow becoming an addict, Xander/Anya, Spike/Buffy, etc.). "The Gift" was written as a (great) series finale/100th episode and it shows by many little things (the Xander/Willow high school reference, etc.). It was like a movie, but knew when to stop and make loner episodes (when S7 didn't really know how).

S6 was great, too. Sure, it was flawed, we all know how : "hit you on the head" metaphores (magic = druuuugs), the ridiculous Trio, etc. But it had great character development, and showed us an all new face of the show, which I love.

S3 now... Well I didn't have it upper on the list because the high school years, not that much for me (even though I'm in a "nostalgic" time and watching S2 these days)... But almost everything about it was great : Faith, Bangel, the Oz/Willow/Xander/Cordy drama, Wesley, Giles, etc. etc. Of course it was greatly written. Still I think it lacked the maturity you could find in the seasons after.

S7, why does everyone hate it ?! I think it was a great season and a very good way to end the show. It was a new type of season, as I said earlier, it really focused on one story, much like a movie. Now okay my main complaints about this season is : too much audience-demanded Spike (it really wasted Spuffy for me), not enough character development for the Four Core, Killow (obviously... gyaaah), a not so badass vilain. But still, it was an empowering season which is good for a season focusing on power.

S4, well, I used to really dislike it, but now that I know it well and can stop focusing on the Initiative extravaganza (which was really badly written), I like it a lot better ! It had great character interaction, amazing loner episodes, a real atmosphere to it and lots of Tillow to love.

S2... Well, according to me, this season (and the show as I first watched it) really becomes good good goooood in mid-season (What's my Line, etc.). Before, it still smells of S1, with good and fun loner episodes but lacking maturity and getting not enough meaning (I mean surely it does have meaning but you get it pretty fast). And after, the arc is just amazing, "Becoming" is unbelievable and "BtVS" becomes "BtVS".

S1, I love "Prophecy Girl". The other episodes... Well it's as I said about first third of S2. Like it though, for the character development mainly, and the way Joss managed to put an arc there while still doing independent episodes.
 
For me the strongest and most fun seasons of Buffy were seasons 2,3 and 4, I loved those years the best. Angel going to the evil side in season 2 was just so fun to watch, season 3 for Faith and the Mayor being bad asses and everyone graduating with a bang... litterly. Season 4 for just some fun with college, seeing Anya back and Xanders job constantly changing and Spike trying to find where he fits in plus The Gentleman, a total highlight all round.
 
I have to say BtVS Season 3, easily. Faith, Angel, Spike, the Mayor, Wes, Oz, Dark Willow, Cordy & Anya. What other season can boast that cast list?

I also thought that the Mayor was the best villain since he was just neat.

Upon repeated viewings, I know overall Season 2 had some pretty weak episodes, especially in the first half. However, the emotional highs I got from that season were unparalleled. Becoming (part 2) will always be my favorite episode of the series.
