Question Best song that wasn't from OMWF?

There was a lot of great music on BTVS (especially during the scenes in the Bronze) but which was the best one? Not counting songs from OMWF (since it is a musical episode, obviously).

A few that come to mind:

"Displaced" - Azure Ray
"Overfire" - THC
"Virgin State of Mind" - K's Choice
"That Kind of Love" - Allison Krauss
"It's Only Love" - Heather Nova
"Never An Easy Way" - Morcheeba

Personally my favorite is "Goodbye to You" because it really is the end of an era. Giles is gone and not coming back for a while, and Willow and Tara's relationship has come to a screeching halt. Buffy unexpectedly finds herself looking to Spike for solace. All that emotion wrapped into a bittersweet four-minute tune.

A very close second is Angie Hart's "Blue" -- the woman has such a beautiful voice and the song is both melodic and haunting, the icing on the cake for the aloof 'Conversations with Dead People.'
 
In all honesty, I didn't like any of the music in BtVS. There's not one song or artist I would listen to.

Hater! There is just so much great music in Buffy. That's the genius of Joss Whedon. He knew that if he put all of these great artists and songs we couldnt help but love it all the more!!
I Only Have Eyes for You - The title song of the episode of the same name 2x19.

All of the songs that have been mentioned are pretty great.

I also really like Stupid Thing by The Nickels in School Hard.
 
I'm surprised no one mentioned the theme song, since it's also a song (and a great one at it 😀)

My favorite song from either show is Living Dead Girl (subliminal seduction remix), if totally fits a badass fighting 'n dancing scene 😀

I also like some of the source Christophe Beck composed for BtVS (he also did the source for Frozen).

In no particular order, I just find myself listening to these most often when I'm playing my self-made Buffy soundtrack 🙂
 
Yeah I always thought The Bronze looked like a great place to hang out with loads of space and live music. However I don't actually remember seeing a single band that I enjoyed. It seemed to be quite dreary stuff from what I remember.
 
I guess thats because, unless they were dancing at the Bronze, then the live music was always used to reflect the mood of certain characters or tell us something 'deep and subtext-y' about current happenings. Which is why a lot of the songs are of the emo-teen variety.
 
Oh oh oh, I thought of ONE song I like from BtVS.

Rancid - Salvation, at the beginning of the pilot episode! Ha!
 
I really like Hideeho by Mellonova ( Buffy and Xander dancing in "I Was Made to Love You" ) Job's Eyes by Far ( "The Pack" ) Transylvanian Concubine by Rasputina ( Drusilla's party ) and both Darling Violetta ( surprisingly solid band by the way ) songs. Sugar Water and Blue are also pretty good.

Agreed. They also tend to foreshadow coming attractions in the season. "Chinese Burn", for instance, foreshadows Faith's turn to the dark side: "She'll break a promise as a matter of course / Because she thinks it's fun to have no remorse / She gets what she wants and then walks away / And she doesn't give a f*** what you might say / Because the rage it burns like Chinese torture / She's just someone's favorite daughter / Spoilt and ugly as she willingly slaughters / Friends and enemies they're all the same."

Another one in the wake of Angel's "death". When Buffy is talking to potential boyfriend Scott, Darling Violetta is playing "Cure." The lyric that they are singing, however, is "You will never be the cure."

"Pavlov's Bell" --> Pavlovian conditioning --> Spike is revealed to be a sleeper agent.

"Goodbye To You" is pretty blatant - Giles and Tara are leaving Buffy and Willow respectively.

I'm sure there's more.

LOL, wow, I'm such an arsehole. I actually noticed a few songs (or should I say bands) I like in the episode 'Him'.

When Dawn is rifling through Buffy's old high school stuff in the loft looking for B's old cheerleading outfit, 'New Slang' by The Shins is playing. I never noticed that before.

Then there's also The Breeders playing while Dawn and RJ dance at The Bronze.

I must have totally blocked this episode from my memory.

Are you not a Yo La Tengo fan? Pretty sure a song from them was used in the background during one season, might have been Tears are in Your Eyes? Forget now.

I think there has been plenty of good music, but also I lot which I wouldn't listen to outside of the show, but that's a point sometimes what works for a certain scene it doesn't follow that its a good song.
