Call me biased, but I think James Marster's performance is the most successful of all cast members on both shows. All of the actors have their wonderful moments--often several of them (Anthony Stewart Head, SMG, Emma Caulfield, and Alexis Denisof are all stand-outs for me), but I feel that JM was the most consistent throughout the course of the series. His performances at the end of "Beneath You" and in episodes like "Afterlife" and "Intervention" amaze me every time I watch. The nuances he uses add so much complexity to the character.
I've got to agree with those who say David Boreanaz is a weak actor. He definitely got much stronger as Buffy progressed (Season 2Angelus was fabulous) and over the course of his own show, but really the only performance of his that truly impressed me was his reaction to Wes taking Connor. That was some intense stuff. DB does angry and evil very well.
I haven't seen Firefly or Serenity yet (can't wait to get my hands on them!), so I'll have to wait to judge those actors.
Oh, and Juliet Landau definitely deserves some credit. Drusilla is awesome.

Juliet Landau was great, she had the most convincing accent. JM, ASH and SMG were obviously good actors too.
And while i agree David was better at playing bad/evil, even funny, i think he's quite underrated. He's decent enough mostly, but has his moments of good acting.
For me, Charisma, Eliza and Michelle T were the weakest actors of the main cast by far.
And Knox, now he is a BAD actor.

As for Eliza... I have to disagree. As far as playing Faith, I thought she was brilliant and very believable. I've seen her in quite a few movies and I use to even claim her as my favorite actress, but her as Faith really stands out more than anything else she's done. I thought she was really good as her.

I agree; I think she's a good, sometimes brilliant actress. There were times that I just loved her in Dollhouse and she really touched me, but then there were also times that she failed. Her role was one of the most challenging on television, and the exceptional actors around her overshadowed her. She played all of her roles more or less the same, which pulled away from the concept a little.
