I was just looking through some info on the Angel comic books in wikipedia when I caught myself staring at the pictures 😀. Some of them seemed so horribly drawn and others I really liked. So I wondered what your impressions on the panels of the comic books are 🙂 But in order to make things more interesting and easy I have put an example to each of them. In this way those who haven't seen the comics ( such as myself for example) can also have an opinion about it. For the rest the pix will be a fine way to compare 😀

So here they are, I hope I haven't missed anything.

I have put covers for some and panels for others *blushes* but the max amount of pix is 17... Soooo? What do you think?

The Spike Old Wounds and Lost and Found style is interesting, but odd—like tracing over photos. That Connor Spotlight one, ugh. That's supposed to be Connor? I like the image of Gunn going up against that demon. I like the colors in that Spike vs Dracula one.

My personal faves that I've seen so far are Angel: Masks, Cordelia (art by Steph Stamb)

And Angel: Auld Lang Syne (art by David Messina)

I wonder if they're going to go with that intermittent noir feel the way they did with the TV series. If so I like that Steph Stamb stuff for that. Actually I really like that anyway, but I'm not sure it's mainstream friendly. Like if the average reader goes from Buffy Season 8 to that will they go "Yuck".

I like the Old Times cover, of course. (See my av).

Lost and Found style could work.

Is the Spike cover Jo Chen, because if so, she's done better.

The shadow puppets art could work for that depending on where they go with the writing, but I don't see it for Season 6.

I like the Illyria spotlight, because they didn't just catch the physical appearances, they caught the characters of the characters.

The Connor spotlight, and Auld Lang Sang definitely don't do it for me.

Aww, we know who can do fun, noirish stuff — Karl Moline:

I'd love to see Moline do something for Angel.

Also, Alex Maleev does dark, down and dirty noir.

I wonder why Moline wasn't re-recruited for Buffy S 8?

I clicked the link on Alex Maleev. Too true. Very Noir. If I was Joss, and I was going Noir he's who I'd pick if I could get him.

The Connor Spotlight really was the weak link in the IDW Angel comics. The rest range from okay to really good but that Connor one looked like it was done by some trainee artist looking for work... and hopefully not getting it!

Karl Moline's work is really gorgeous. I'd like to see him do an arc for the Buffy Season 8 series or, better yet, more Fray.

Hey, guys, I'm sorry I abandoned the thread like that but I had to spend some quality exam time 🙂 Luckily, everything so far is great!

The graphics of Cordelia are wonderful, very detailed and different than the other comic graphics. Fray's examples are also impressing, they seem very dynamic. I liked the one of Spike: Lost and found or at least the ones I saw in internet. Nevertheless they aren't very impressing probably because they look too much like screencaps. But Spike looks good on them 🙂

I don't see much creativity in the ones with Connor, Wesley and the Old Wounds. They really don't appeal to me. I'm not sure what to think of Old times because I found only the cover lol Like with most covers I do like it.

I really hope the new comic books will be made by new artists, however. Although I did like some of the comic panels, I don't really find them satisfying. Of course my opinion is difficult to justify b/c I haven't really looked through them but it seems something is missing. Maybe it's the noir style nerd4hire mentioned. After all the comic books should reflect the atmoshpere of the series right?

The art in Spike vs Dracula ran the gamut from mediocre to absolute shit. At least the art in Asylum and Shadow Puppets is decent. It's interesting though, overall the art in the IDW books has been better than the art from the Dark Horse days, but man oh man, the writing has been spotty as hell, Aud Lang Syne and Old Friends seemed derivative of eachother, and Asylum was fun, but didn't quite feel right, SP is the same way.

Art wise though, I think the Illyria Spotlight, and Shadow Puppets have probably been the best thus far, though the Curse was pretty good too.

*sighs* I finally decided what comic book to order ( to my friend lol brithday sooon ) and it's the Illyria and Lost & Found ones. I trully hope they're good!

Comparing the art of IDW and Dark Horse do you really think IDW is better? I have only seen the images which are avatars in the boards and they ( at least they ) seem stylish.
