Amends.
'IOHEFY' is skillfully done and has nice insights into Buffy's pov about Bangel. It's really that last scene where the revelation comes. Very well written.
But Amends in more than Bangel. Its about what Buffy comes to mean to Angel, about what she says to him as she try to reach him at the end of the episode. 'Hard is fighting...' And how that later comes to define Angel's character on his own show.
Plus Amends is funnier and sweeter. (not really the Bangel stuff but the Wox stuff and Faith)

Same as thetopher. I actually think that IOHEFY might be the better episode, but yeah Amends is more crucial to their relationship, and the ending makes it a very important Bangel's episode.

I think I find IOHEFY is more powerful - Amends isn't my favorite episode ever.

I prefer IOHEFY. I don't like Amends. Actually, I like Amends fine, but honestly Angel should have left directly after Amends, him staying ruined it for me. Angel is pretty useless for the rest of the season, and in the end we just get a repeat melodramatic ending where Angel decides it's better to leave. Amends should have been Bangel's ending, it would have made for a great ending. And I can't be the only one that sees the Fuffy subtext in Amends. I think this episode would have worked best as the end to Bangel, and beginning of Fuffy.

Beside that, IOHEFY is in my top 20 Buffy episode, it was a really good episode. Brilliant role reversal at the end.

See, that's why I like the episode. The Bangel bits are just standard melodrama to me- same old, same old- (I don't even see them in a romantic way anymore, just the coda for Angel's show), but those lil' Fuffy bits are oh, so sweet. 🙂

If the titled has been best Fuffy episode I'd certainly had agreed! This is a great episode for Fuffy. Just not so much for Bangel. Bangel just...had run it's course by them. The rest is just the vicious circle that Bangel is, yes they love each other, no they can't be together thing. I completely agree though, by this point, there was no need to rehash the romantic side of Bangel, just give him his own show already!

Amends is ok, the dream scenes are great 😉, but as a whole it was never really a favorite of mine.

To be honest, I don't think IOHEFY counts as a Bangel ep - there's no Bangel there, it doesn't exist in that ep, so I, personally, don't think it can be regarded as a Bangel ep, so there's no comparison for me.

But, saying that, one ep against the next, I prefer 'Amends', simply because there's a more hopeful ending.

I agree.. I never even considered it a Bangel episode. There was no Bangel romance or angst in the episode. It wasnt even the angel part of Bangel.

loved both, in IOHEFY with the gender role switch and how desecrated Angel tries to wash off the dirty human feelings, but Amends is more detailed and insightful with the flashbacks and the First and I loved the cheesy walk in the snowfall.

I think the end works so well because of the darker tone throughout. Its the contrast between light and dark which really makes the ending so powerful and up lifting.
