OK, this has probably been debated ten fold, but my excuse is that I'm still a newbie (and very, VERY upset about having to relinquish my "New Member of the Month" title in a week 🙁 ha)

But out of Spike and Angel, regardless of who you find the most physically attractive, who do you think makes a better boyfriend? For you, personally.

Spike: The bad guy turned good, who is incredibly passionate and wants you at whatever cost.

Angel: The reserved guy, who loves you, but is willing to put your future first.

(Feel free to disregard my opinions of Spike and Angel in favour of your own 🙂 )

I keep forgetting you're so new... it feels like you've been here quite a while!
Option C: Neither.

Spike offers absolutely everything I don't want from a partner and Angel is too much like me, neither are BF material as far as I am concerned.

I still say Angel...

Spike will want Buffy at whatever cost: but I feel like it's not only at his cost, it's at Buffy's too.

For now, this is my only argument considering I can't really think due to it being too early for me to be up.

🙂

Well honestly I would have to say Spike.

Angel was all Lovely Dorey and it made me think less of him as a Vumpire. Angelus was all Evil and just a lot better. When I first began watching Buffy, I knew about Angel and that many people liked him. "Oh he's awesome blah blah blah." but when I watched it, I was in complete awe. I felt lied to because he seemed nothing more then a p***y when he was with Buffy. It seems to well...Fairytale in my opinion.

Now Spike. Spike would have done anything for her and yada yada yada, but unlike Angel, Spike didn't have (or could lose) his soul and so forth. Yes he became a sap and what not but seriously? If you went up to someone THAT SEXY and said. "Aye peaches want to tumble?" what would you do? Say YES of course!

And I always have a Character that would agree with me, because he loves Spike as much as I do.

Andrew.

LOL you are seriously a trip. I love Andrew btw.
Do we have to choose? I don't think Buffy ever had a good boyfriend on the show. Angel wasn't nearly as chivalrous as he claimed himself to be. He came off as more of a player than anything else. Play the mysterious angle, then make a big show about how they can't be together while at the same time following her around. He treated her like a little kid.

Spike is a little trickier since he was soulless and therefore had the tainted love thing going. He exploited a situation to get what he wanted out of this warped sense of love. We never really get to see souled Spike in the real boyfriend role so it's not fair to judge and the same level.

Actually I was thinking about this.. and reversed the timing of them. If Spike and his characteristics had been "in love" with Buffy in season 1&2 how appalling would that be? It would be borderline obscene.

So yet again, I do not think you can say one from the other as you had two different Buffys to go with two different beaus.

I wont mention anything about kean wanting to shag herself as this is a family friendly board.

Buffy needs to be with the one who will love her the most. And I promise, there will never be a guy who will love her more than Spike. No one. But this is only if he becomes human. If not, neither Angel or Spike can be with her for real, and have a real relationship. I'm not even talking about marriage and children. Just taking her to picniks, enjoying a good breakfast at a cafe, things like that. On the other hand, I'm not saying a boyfriend who's not Spike or Angel but is human will be good for her. I just don't think there is any human there that would work for her. She tried that before. Human boyfriends. There was no real click. Not even with Riley. There was clearly something missing there.

What about Riley? I dont know how I feel about Angel but I definitely wouldnt choose Spike.

I want to add this to my original comment: Riley is very close to what I'd want in a boyfriend.

One corn-fed, Iowa, soldier boy to go please (sw)

Sounds like you're holding out for Clark Kent. Just substitute Kansas for Iowa, and you're in business. But Lois Lane might object

Non, non, non... you said.. and I quote:
you said:
Angel is too much like me, neither are BF material
Which would imply that too much like you means you are only denying him because it would be like broham laying down with sista.. you didnt say he was disqualified because he wasnt BF material. So, that being said if he is not BF material, and you are too much like him, you aren't BF material either?

Best boyfriend was clearly Riley.

No I am not boyfriend material at all!

And I didn't mean it quite as you have put it. I disqualified Angel because he is too much like me i.e. Quiet, brooding, stubborn etc etc. We'd kill each other. Or possibly repress every feeling we ever had, hoping it would just go away.

That would be as intolerable as the Spike-esque BF who loses all sense of self and devotes his entire being to you.

So yes, once again, Riley wins. 😀

Neither Spike nor Angel would work as the long haul guy. That immortal thing kinda screws that up eventually. And Riley is, as has been pointed out, the typical Iowa farm boy. Buffy would go nuts with farm life before the first crop of corn came in. Frankly, I seriously doubt that Mr Right has shown up yet.

But that doesn't answer the original question. So...

I'll cast my vote with Miss K. Neither.

There seems to be a bit of confusion here: should we be answering who is better for Buffy or who we, the members, would view as better boyfriends for ourselves?

We'd kill each other.

You couldnt kill him any worse than Joss did.. at least he might go out on top.. if you were to kill him.

I think it was FOR Buffy, who was the better.

Ooops. I took it the other way.

If we are talking for Buffy? Angel! Pfft! Obviously! 😛

Took it the other way.. well, THAT explains alot!
For me personally?

Ugh, season seven Spike. *daydreams. . .

That there is basically everything I want in a man.

Yes! In season 7 he has totally proven that he can be a good boyfriend! Not just in things he did, it was the mentality, if you may. Loyal, gentle, loving, hugging, cuddly, etc

Scobro agrees: No.. season 7 he proves he can be a good FRIEND, even if a little crackers. There was no boyfriendiness involved.

Let me quote myself:
Loyal, gentle, loving, hugging, cuddly, etc.

All that boyfriendly, all that he's done and is in season 7.

"Loyal, gentle, loving, hugging, cuddly, etc." is a DOG!! he could be a Benji. Well, hell, a name like Spike what do you expect really. Roll over Rover!

I just dont see where those traits prove that he could be a good boyfriend. Not for a grown woman. Not JUST those.

EDIT: I mean honestly "loyal, gentle, loving, hugging, cuddly," could describe Giles as well as Xander too! HELL!!! Even Andrew was huggy and cuddly with her.. deffo gentle and loyal once she save his life.. so Andrew, Giles, Xander are all perfect boyfriends going by that description.

Well, do you prefer a boyfriend to be:
Abusive, betrayer, distant, woman hater?

And what does his name have to do with this? Angelus is Latin for angel, yet Angelus was no angel.

Uhm, ya. EVERY one I know with a name variant of Angel is, well, not one. :-)
