Better off with the two seasons?

Do you think Dollhouse was better off with just the two seasons? Or do you think it needed more?

I think Joss did really good with having only two short season to tell his story, as well as not having as much creative freedom as he would have liked in season 1. He managed to tell a whole story that ended up feeling complete, and the series finale was very good.

But, because this is Joss were talking about, I'm sure he had a storyline idea for many more seasons than what we got, and I'm sure if it was given more season the show wouldn't have gone stale. I would have gladly taken a few more season of Dollhouse.

half way through season 2, the whole story lurches into a different gear because of the limited time there is to wrap up and it's a bit of a jolt. With an extra season (or even just 22 episodes in season 2) it would have been smoother and better getting to its destination. With a Buffy-length run, it could have been twice as awesome as it was.

I think the two seasons worked well. The show had a real ending, unlike some other shows that ended prematurely.
However, the potentialities of the Dollhouse Universe were so vast, versatile and flexible, I think the show could have easily sustained another two seasons without a decrease in quality. Sure, they would have had to change the style of the show a little, just like season 1 and 2 are different, but there was so much they could have done, there was so much left unexplored.

Anyway, I'm just glad we have two seasons and a concluded story.

Deffinetly only two. The show was good, but it wasn't great and I couldn't imagine sitting through more episodes of slow development of echo remembering and forgetting over and over again. I remember not really being a fan of series one, and the only thing that hooked me was that final future episode.
Season 2 was shaping up to be just as boring, but when they got cancelled and had to rush to finish it got good again, becasue the second half of the second series is good I have a fond memory of the series, may even rewatch it at some stage - dont think I would even consider watching if it was 1 season longer

It seemed to me that Dollhouse was set up for a 5 year arc.

Year 1 was been about Echo becoming 'self-aware' of herself, which happened at the end of the season.

Year 2 was been the Dollhouse War that we see, conflict between two or more houses and uncovering a bit more of Rossum's agenda, as well as finding out a little bit more about Caroline and the others before they were dolls.

The last 3 seasons (of 12/13- I'm not sure Dollhouse would've suited a 22 episode run without a lot of fillers a la S1, it needed that sense of 'condensced intricacy you get over a smaller number of eps.) would've been Echo out in the wider world, on the run before deciding to come back into the Dollhouse to take them down from the inside, also Echo learning to control her 'gestalt' powers while she finds out more about Rossum's scope/future plans, plus her romance with Ballad,
Siera and Victor developing into loving on another, Topher gaining a conscience as Rossum uses his genius to develop their 'programming' technology, Adele losing control and then regaining control of her own house should've taken place over a season.

Hell, the last season coul've been set in the post-apocalytic world we saw in Epitaph- yhere was tons of material to work with in season 2.

I think Dollhouse works well with the two seasons that it had. The way the show was presented, to me it doesn't seem like the kind of show that could work over a longer period. I'm sure, behind the scenes, Joss and Co. had everything worked out and they had stories they wanted to tell, but what they put on screen didn't leave me with much confidence that it could survive more than two seasons.

I understand that things towards they end were rushed and it's probably that the Big Bad's revelation would have happened much, much later had they known they would be getting more seasons, but even before that, before we knew the show was being cancelled, I was still wondering where they were going to go.

Don't get me wrong, I love Dollhouse, but it's the kind of show where I feel like 'that's enough, that was perfect' and I'm not desperate for more.

Though I did really enjoy the comic book.
