Which was the better season of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer"?

The short first season
or
The first half of season two before Angel's soul was removed and turned into Angelus

Ooh that's tough but I'll slightly go with the first half of season 2. At least it's got Spike and some Oz. There are some terrible episodes in there just like season 1 though, but it's got School Hard and Halloween. Some of my favorites.

I also really enjoyed The Dark Age and the What's My Line double as well.

Even though S2 had some weak episodes it always felt like it really came to be itself here.

I'd go with S2. Even the bad episodes seem to be better written and acted than S1. More characters were introduced, the beginning of Xander/Cordelia, Giles/Jenny finally becoming a couple...

Also, on a shallow note, the characters look much better than they did in S1 and the filming is brighter and it doesn't look as dated as S1.

I prefer season one because everything is fresh and new with no big issues to elaborate: Season one is good for a "relax watching" ( as season three) ; season two is good for big drama, with tension, pain and interesting evolution of the characters and shocking plot (as season five).... 🙂

Giles and Jenny! Yea Xander is pretty hot in season 2 and Buffy looks older. The beginning of season 2 the show starts to find it's groove.

Season 2 for sure. Bangel goodness...
Cools things that happen: Xander and Cordy hook up; Jenny calls Giles a "sexy fuddy-duddy"; Buffy learns a lesson in feminism on Halloween; School Hard; sexy, shirtless and tied to a bed post Angel (being tortured by Dru); Oz; Buffy and Angel making out in Ted; Angel and Mr Gordo; the awkward mating ritual between Buffy and Xander (poor guy); Buffy falling face first into an open grave after arguing with Angel and FINALLY that Grammy worthy music video/skating routine on What's my Line (it's so nineties!). I could go on and on though 😀

First half of season 2. The debut of Spike alone might be better than anything from s1😉 I even quite like Ted, more than many anyway.

Season 2 had some great early episodes, in big part thanks to Spike and Dru and because the show had hit a stride in developing its characters.

I'd have to say the beginning of season 2 as well.

Though, I must admit, that's tough for me. I kind of put a lot of weight into Buffy's speech in Prophecy Girl about being 16 and not wanting to die, since that was the moment that I really, truly decided that this show was capable of some really great things. I liked it before. But I think that's what hooked me, the first time around, with my first full watch of the show.

But season two has so much going for it. As previously mentioned, Spike and Oz. Giles and Jenny. When She Was Bad. Yup. Good stuff.

Oooh tough question. I love both but would probably sway more towards the beginning of Season 2 as people have already said, some great characters were introduced and I felt the storylines and relationships between the characters got stronger and deeper.

I think they're pretty similar tbh. I think season 1 is good, as a whole, and the first half of season 2 is the low point of the season. I'll go with season 1 to give it some love. The bad episodes of season 1 have more charm to them than the bad episodes of season 2.

Definitely S1. The writing was more relaxed and everything seemed so fresh. And I really love retro-Buffy. Those clothes, the hair...the lollipop. So cute! And not as angsty as the following seasons. Plus, the opening credits montage is one of my favourites.
