Between season five and season six, how did people not know that Buffy was dead? She had a gravestone, and I'm sure she knew more people than the Scoobies, so how did people not react weirdly when they saw Buffybot and the real Buffy when she came back?

OMG. THANKYOU!!! I've been wondering about this foreeeever
I've often wondered about that whole bit. I mean they could have kept it quiet from people she knew because there was the Buffy Bot but then again what about a death certificate? What does one need to get buried legally? And who would believe there just happened to be two Buffy Summers in Sunnydale? I don't know. It's just one of those things I accepted as a don't ask and just enjoy kind of situation.

Regarding Buffy's gravestone you might want to read this thread, it has some very good, plausible ideas: Buffy's Grave

And, as I understood it, the Scoobies didn't let the BuffyBot go out that much and just had it for representative purposes when they needed it, like Dawn's school fair and some patrols at night which they did with it. They didn't want any attention drawn to Buffy's death or the vamps/demons would go crazy as soon as they heard that there wasn't a Slayer in Sunnydale anymore.

Buffy dropped out of college and didn't have to have much (any?) friends except for the Scoobies so she didn't have to socialise.
It was probably easy to just keep the BuffyBot in the house all day and if somebody asked any questions, the Scoobies would tell them that Buffy just needed some time to herself because of Joyce's death or something. So chances are not many people had interacted with the BuffyBot.

You need to get karma for your sig. That is all. (Oh, and you probably made good points too, but I was distracted by the banner!)

dont kill me but what movie is it?
The gang obviously went to great lengths to conceal the Slayer's death, probably for several reasons. Primarily, if word got out that there was no one guarding the hellmouth, all hell would literally break out there. Also, probably of equal concern, if it were known that Buffy was dead, custody of Dawn would revert to Hank Summers if he could be located, or some foster home if he couldn't. Obviously, the Scoobies didn't want that to happen for Dawn's sake, but there was also something else: As far as was known, Dawn's identy as the Key might still be viable, which would therefore make her a target for whatever demon or wizard (Doc, for example) who wanted to utilize her power. That also explains why Spike was so adamant about protecting her.

Not much less important was the fact that the Watchers' Council, if they were to have learned about Buffy's death, would have almost certainly targeted Faith for assassination once more, in the hopes of attaining a more controllable Slayer after she was dead. Now, granted, neither Giles nor the Scoobies really counted Faith as their best friend, but they must have been aware that she had confessed to her crimes and was attempting to attone for her mistakes. They might not be certain of her reformation, but they were still unwilling to be at least partially responsible for her death at the hands of Council assassins.

Buffy was obviously buried in a secluded place, probably protected from discovery by some sort of cloaking spell provided by Willow and Tara. The Buffy Bot was repaired and put into service both as a substitute Slayer and as a substitute parent for Dawn.

Other than the half dozen people directly involved in Sunnydale and Angel and his team, no one ever knew that Buffy was dead. That's the only way that she could have resumed her life in Season 6.

I agree this could have been one of the reasons for why Spike wanted to protect her, but I think his promise to Buffy was the biggest factor. He promised to protect Dawn and, as he says in his speech in "After life", he felt extremely guilty about Buffy's death. He wanted to make sure he kept that promise even though Buffy was gone.

Anyway, it seems to me that since Willow was becoming so powerful with her magic that she could easily create things like a coffin, a tombstone, etc pretty easily. If they did it that way, no one needed to know that Buffy was dead at all what with the Buffy bot being there and all.

This is a silly question, but would the spell have been able to work had Buffy been cremated or something else was done with her body? 😛

The spell restored a very obviously mummified body, so I would say that restoring a cremated body would be more difficult, but just as possible.

Ah yes. "Osiris, here are the ashes of the warrior of the people. Try not to scatter them whilst you complete my request"
I think his promise to Buffy was the biggest factor.

I should have said that Spike was adamant about THE NEED for Dawn to be protected, the same as Buffy was in asking for his promise to do so. Remember what she told Giles? "Besides me, Spike is the only one powerful enough to protect Dawn." I think that she still had that in mind when she asked for Spike's promise. Any of the others could have seen to Dawn's normal day to day needs. She foresaw the need to protect her from someone or some THING too powerful for Giles, Xander, or even Willow with her magic skills, to stand against. Both she and Spike were aware of that possibility, as were probably all of the others, which is one of the reasons that they allowed Spike to be there at all.

As for the coffin, as strange as it might seem, people do buy them occasionally for things other than funerals. Xander could have just told the director of the local mortuary that he was preparing early for a very elaborate Halloween party. As far as that goes, he was probably a good enough carpenter to build one himself. The stone marker would have been slightly more difficult, but it could have been bought later someplace out of town. It's a chunk of granite, not a case of explosives. There's no registration for something like that. For that matter, they could have just said that they were making an independent movie and needed the stuff, engraving and all, for a funeral scene.

It's bad writing proof that Joss gave up on his show and gave the reins Mart Noxon who could'nt write a show for peanuts.

Crap Buffy used to be good then they brought loads of chicks in. It was cool wacky and sexy and the it lost it all and became a diffrent show.

I'm pretty sure that's an insult to females...

No it's not because i'm cool with chicks watching that show and liking it.

Angel was for the guys.

Buffy used to be better and sexier and less about women troubles.

^ Um. The main character was a chick. Obviously there are going to be some women troubles?

Main female characters (throughout time): Buffy, Dawn, Willow, Tara, Cordelia, Anya, Faith.
Main male characters: Angel, Spike, Giles, Xander, Oz, Wood.

Not much of a difference there?

And, um, I didn't notice any "women troubles"...? Are you sure you've been watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and not like, Desperate Housewives?
