Quick question. I'm aware all the girls (Bar Cordy) love Xander, but do the guys to? I mean, when he walked down the corridor the guys stared too.

i think the guys were just jealous that Xander was getting all the attention of the girls. if you look at them closely, most of the guys are making faces.

Yup, and -

-Oz punched him in the face.
-Giles was major pissed off at him, told him to "Get out of my sight."
-Angel/Angelus yanked him out of Buffy's room and tried to kill him.

I think I remember seeing Larry giving him a look, or that might have been my imagination... 😀

Nope, it was definately just the girls, which was a very good thing. Not sure I could have dealt with Giles getting all touchy-feely with Xander.

okay, i havent seen this episode in a while, so sorry if this is a stupid question, but in this episode amy turns buffy into a rat, right? and when she turns her back, giles is there in the room with her helping her, isnt he? so then how come when amy turned herself into a rat, giles couldnt help turn her back? couldnt he have at least told willow what to do?

he helped Amy revese the spell she cast...as the witch who cast it wasn't exactly available to help him, he couldn't reverse it. i know Giles has a lot of magikal power, but i don't think he has that much.

Yeah, pretty much what Lyri said above.

It's a far cry from aiding a witch in reversing her own spell to actually being able to do that yourself. Giles didn't have anything like that level of power.

One thing about Amy and her spell - I really wonder if she had the power to do animal transfiguration routinely. If you think about it, that would be an enormous power to have, for anyone, certainly for a high school junior. Xander had no idea what he dealing with when he blackmailed her, lol!

I believe that later, in Season 6 "Wrecked", we learn that she got the spell from Rack. One of the themes that develops in Amy's appearances in the last two seasons of the show is how jealous she is of Willow and her talent. But I don't know - I've always thought that Amy had plenty of power herself - back in this episode as well as late in the series. Really, it's not till much later than Season 2 that we see Willow do anything like change a person into a rat and back again.

Whatever - I really do love this episode.

Which was sorta the point of my joke, lol. ;)

See Im not so sure about that. I know Giles was not as poweful as Amy, but I do think he must have had a decent amount of power. after all he managed to reverse Amys mums death spell on Buffy. That must have taken quite a lot of power. Also, just think back to his younger years and all his magikal rebellion. He must have retained some of that.

Which brings us to a continuity error.

In Witch, he says its his first casting but later on we find that to not be true.

Not so much an error as a lie, I reckon. Giles never wanted Buffy to know anything about his past and all the stuff he did as a teenager. Makes sense that he wouldn't want anyone to know just how informed he was regarding witchcraft.

Nah, it definately was an error. Joss clearly didnt know he was gonna do all Giles background the way he did. Besides they way he said it seemed like he meant it. It wasnt a lie.

But of course thats how it can be explained away. I just dont buy it 😛

Well, yeah, obviously an error. But I am the King of smoothing over Buffyverse continuity bumps :p

I don't buy it either. But heck, it was only the third episode of the series.
but when Giles reversed Amy's mom's spells, he used his own energy, didn't he? he plunged his hands into whatever that was that was steaming, and i always thought it took the power from Giles' body. he did seem a little drained afterwards.

but even if he didnt have the power to do it, couldnt he just tell willow what amy did and have her do the reversal?

and plus, if amy found the reversal within an episode, its entirely possible that someone powerful and smart as willow, or maybe even giles, could have found the reversal somewhere, isn't it? or at least it shouldnt have taken about three years.

i'm not even certain that Amy's intention was to turn herself into a rat...i think she meant to turn the crowd into rats. the words she said in Gingerbread were the same as she said in BBB, so i was always under the impression that she was intending to turn the crowd into rats, ber her emotional state made it backfire on her, and Amy turned herself into the rat.
if this is the case, then it would make a certain amount of sense that no one could reverse her spell...right?

i guess it could, but its also possible that if the same spell could be used to accomplish both, then the same reversal could be used as well. either theory works i suppose.

feel free to prove me wrong; i probably am again :silly:.

No, I don't think they did. I think that they were just looking because they were jealous that all of the girls were looking at him and not them.

On the whole Amy thing, the way I see it is that it is much easier for the witch who cast the spell to reverse it than for anoter to break it. Also, Giles may hve just been helping in the most cursory sense the first time without understanding what was happening. The book with the reversal was probably burned in the fire. That could mean that only Amy (and possibly Rack) would know how that specific spell is reversed.

Another take is that if she did mean to curse the crowd (which seems likely enough) and it backfired, the standard reversal won't cut it, an only a very powerfull witch (e.g. Season 6 Willow) could break it. She would understandthe pricipals behind it then.

Edit:

On the original issue, I am pretty sure that a few of the boys weren't jealous....I don't think it was just Larry.
