Biblical reference?

In 'The Gift', when Buffy is beating the crap out of Glory with the hammer, Glory says that Buffy can't beat her because she's a god, and Buffy says "If you're a god, then save yourself." I was wondering, do you think that was a reference to or inspired by the crucifixion story? Because when Jesus is on the cross, they tell him to save himself if he's really god's son.

Is that to imply that Buffy is somehow evil? OH! If so, could that imply something about Dark-Buffy in season 6?

Uh, ya. Obviously. But what I meant was the "darker" side of Bufffy was never really manifested until season 6

I hate it whan people compare Buffy to the bible, but its ok I see what u mean ^_^

I actually kind of find it interesting when Buffy is compared to the Bible. It makes one wonder if the writers do it on purpose (like references to Star Trek and such) or if it not intentional at all.

Anyway...I don't think it was a Biblical reference so much as Buffy just taunting Glory.

I don't really think it was an allusion to the New Testament. Because if it were it would imply that Glory was in fact something Jesus-like not using her power to safe herself in that situation which is certainly completely untrue for Glory.

I think Buffy was just mocking Glory because she showed her that she - even though being a godess - she was not THE all powerful goddess she would have liked to be. It was just to show that Glory was not really a godess in the sense that we usually define a god/godess (omnipotence, omniscience etc.)

That was never actually said. Here's the line:

Which makes it all sound less like a refference, and I'd say it's a coincidence.
