Big Bang Theory

I quite like it. I've watched a couple episodes here and there, and have started from the beginning recently. About halfway through S1 now. Sheldon is awesome. I don't really like the laugh track, though; it's too gratituous and would be better if it weren't so raucous. (Also, Seinfeld is the funniest show ever. And I love HIMYM.)

Garbage because you don't like it? Harsh words. Sets the tone of the thread and some might hesitate to post if they're fans of the show.

Why are you hating on me for expressing my own opinion? Am I not entitled to it? You don't see me telling the fans how deluded they are for liking it, do ya?

Of course you are entitled to your own opinion, you should be allowed to state what you believe and no one should belittle you for that.
I like The Big Bang Theory, I have followed the work of several of the actors over the years, be that from Charmed or Roseanne(?)

Wasn't my intent to hate on you. Or maybe we just have different thoughts about what that is. You're defintely entitled to think the show suck. Personally I just don't see how calling it garbage while wanting to know peoples feelings about the show is something good. While talking to fans, be it Buffy fans, Twilight fans or Tbbt fans, starting with saying how bad the show/books is/are not the best way top start. In my opnion. Feel free to disagree.

Got to run.

When you don't like something, you say you don't like it. That implies that is a personal opininion. Saying that something is garbage implies that it objectively sucks and everyone that enjoys it has no idea of what a fun show is.

It's rubbish and I love it. End of story.

I also like Gossip Girl and Glee so there's not much I can say. I enjoy some rubbish television sometimes. Life is rubbish and sometimes all you want to do is fall into something mindless and easy to watch.

It's never going to be laugh out loud funny but it's the closest I get to switching off my brain and that is sometimes all I want. Lets face it, watching something like The Walking Dead surely isn't going to help me get to sleep or stop thinking about what it means to be human is it now?!

Damn but I am missing karma!

I just had to say THIS! This exactly my thoughts on BBT...and GG and Glee too. Same goes for One Tree Hill. Sometimes I just need a show to do nothing but make me smile or swoon.

Then other times, like you said, you have a show like The Walking Dead, or Homeland (Or The Wire, which I am finishing now) that can compel you in much deeper and meaningful ways.

I'm very glad there are people that think similarly to me. I always knew that apart from football choice, you being much nicer than me, and you being much more articulate, that we were soul mates!

I agree. I mean this show is a sitcom, you guys. It's not meant to be genius writing and perfect in every way possible. But it's clear the show is doing something right or it wouldn't have lasted this long.

Sometimes, you need the rubbish / mindless stuff. Something that makes you smile or swoon like Kean said.

I enjoy The Big Bang Theory.

I'm a huge fan, for me it's one of the few laugh out loud shows that I've watched I got the dvd's a few months ago and I never really get tired of re-watching it.

I was sort of sold from the start though, then they really caught me with Sheldon's "I myself when I try to decieve display more ticks than a lyme disease research facility", lol, I'm sorry but I just find that hilarious 😀 So I don't get the hate at all, it's right up my alley

I didn't watch the show at first, during it's first season when it originally aired. But I went back and watched from season 1 and on. I've had moments like that too where I've laughed out loud a few times.

Obviously you are entitled to your opinion, but asking for other people's opinion you can hardly call it 'hate' when they disagree with you calling it garbage. You are entitled to have you opinion but just as you are so are the rest of us, and even though you're only (currently) indirectly tellings fans that they are deluded for liking it your opening post was harsh if you're indeed honestly curious about what other people think of the show be it positive or negative.

You first post:
Do people think this show is funny? None of the characters are interesting, or reminiscent of real people. The writing isn't clever, and the plots are never original. Yet somehow this shit has got 5 seasons, glowing reviews, and has no end in sight.

I don't discuss shows on here often, but how does BB feel about this garbage?

Did you start this thread only with the intent of bashing the show? Or are you honestly wondering what other people see in it? Because if you only want to hate on the show I don't see the point of keep a discussion thread open for it.

:lmao:

We definitely agree on this. I couldn't live without my "silly" shows, any more than I could do without my thought provoking shows. They all serve their own purpose.

And I totally agree Abbeycat. In my opinion, one of the best shows of all time is Friends. That show will never challenge my idea of humanity or morality, but it will make me double over in fits of laughter, even all these years, and all these viewings, later.

Big Bang is no Friends, but it is the only sitcom I have enjoyed even fractionally as much as I did Friends.

I like having silly shows and then the you know, the thought provoking shows that make you think. it's nice to have a balance of having some silly shows and the thought provoking shows. Sometimes, Silly shows like the big bang theory, can help you feel a little better or get your mind off things.

It's great that you guys love it, reallt it is. But I just don't see it.

... and that's of course totally ok. How fun would it be if everyone liked the same things? Boring right?

Going off topic, I've watched one season of both Six feet under and Breaking bad. Two shows that are getting nothing but praise. Or so it seems. So far I I'm not seeing it. It's very doubtful if I'll watch any more episodes. Doesn't seem to be my thing. Nothing more to it. Like it is for those not liking Tbbt or any other show.

I'm having the same issue with Criminal Minds. My sister and a handful of my closest friends have been reccing this to me for years. I watched a some episodes recently and was bored to tears. I just couldn't get into it. We all have our own tastes.

Deep shows don't do it for me anymore. I'm at a point in my life where I want to watch something light and funny and doesn't require thinking, something you'd enjoy eating your lunch and dinner while watching it.

I LOVE the Big Bang Theory. My favorite character is Amy Farrah Fowler. But I'm a bit biased because I used to be a huge Blossom fan when I was a kid and Amy reminds me of simpler times.

I used to be that way about it, too, but then I caught a good ep and got pulled in.

Lately, I seem to have some sort of thing for shows with highly intelligent, but not necessarily socially capable characters. The only shows I watch these days are: TBBT, Bones, House and Criminal Minds, but almost only on reruns.

Also, I was hooked when I caught a re-run of TBBT where Sheldon is trying to teach Penny about physics...and she starts crying and Sheldon asks why. She says she's crying because she's stupid and he doesn't get it, but says something to the effect of "well sometimes I cry because everyone else is stupid." Plus, I was a huge Roseanne fan (grew up with Darlene) so I it's a big fan thing for me with her on there sometimes, David as Leonard and Jackie as Sheldon's mom.

Very much agree. Blossom (and especially Joey) were a very big deal when I was growing up 😉

I love Amy. Not as much as she loves her tiara, but still 😉

It's a decent show. I keep watching it so it can't be all bad. lol
They should use Kaley Cuoco more though. I would stop watching it without her.

Personally I also think that Sheldon is way overrated. I just don't see what's so funny with him that everyone else seems to see.

/SK

I do find this show hilarious! I would have to disagree and say that one of the reasons I love it is because the writing, especially the jokes can be very clever. I like witty characters with well defined personalities and in my opinion this show has that.

I DO find the characters interesting and reminiscent of real people. There are plenty of eccentric, witty nerds out there. I definately know some! 🙂 This show gives the spotlight to a certain demographic of people who I don't believe are portayed on television very much at the moment. That's part of the reason it's refreshing to me. It's something different but also something I can relate to and laugh about. I like weird people and this show definately has some weirdos! LOL😛
