1st of all, Warning: Spoilers afoot!!!
2ndly, Scobro, don't ruin my Big Love thread! 😀

Alright I'm going to try this again, maybe Taake and soulunsung and I are the only Big Love fans here, and that's fine. But soulunsung, I've added the spoiler warnings just for you, have you had time to catch up yet?

Initial thread was sent to the cemetary, here's the link: https://www.buffy-boards.com/showthread.php?t=52537.

I finally got to watch the series finale last night & it blew me away. First of all I have to say that although I like the final season, it's not favorite. Favorite characters did not appear: Sarah (
well, until the finale
); I adored Sissy Spacek's character in season 4, as well as Adam Beach & Robert Beltran. And Joey and Wanda were weirdly absent!! I missed all those characters this season. Although Alby was even more deliciously evil than normal!

But the finale! I just knew something like that was going to happen.
I had a feeling that Bill would get shot, and I cried like a baby. And I think it's so interesting for us here at BB that Bill was unexpectedly killed by Carl (Whedon alum Carlos Jacott). I also cried at the ending, although I feel like it was wrapped up just a little too neatly: Barb getting to baptize the baby, Margene going on her mission's trip (really, she's leaving her children for 3 months! As a mother myself, I can't even imagine!). But Bill's spirit sitting there watching them, oh it was heartbreaking and beautiful! And I love Natalie Maine's rendition of God Only Knows.

So, my question: Who's your favorite character? What was your favorite storyarc?

My favorite characters:
Bill- dedicated, committed, but I often get sooo pissed at him because of his bullheadedness!
Nicki- so complex, so layered. Chloà« Sevigny is amazing!
Alby- wonderfully evil. Yet his season 4 relationship storyline was so compelling!

Favorite storyarcs:
The casino, season 4. I really liked Barb & Tommy's relationship, and I wondered if anything would have come of it.
Alby's relationship with Dale. It was different but nice to see Alby really care for someone, and really highlighted the difficulties a gay person has in a religion that doesn't support them. The end of that relationship was so, so tragic.
Sarah's pregnancy, and really her entire season 3 storyline. I felt that her character was strongest during that season.

I'm a fan!!

However, I stopped watching last season :-(

Feel free to fill me in on what happened in the final season/episode, I'm not going to watch anymore but I am curious at what happened

I was just wondering does this show end on a lot of cliffhangers at the season finales?
I was asking because if I ever see it on sale I will buy it but want to be prepared to be left hanging.

Marisa do you mean at the end of each season? Yes there are cliffhangers, although the series finale ties everything up.

Carr, why did you stop watching?

I actually stopped watching when Sarah left. She was my favorite character and I just didn't love the show as much without her there.

I was never a serious watcher to begin with though, I only watched it because my sister did but I grew to like it because of her. Without Sarah tho I was disappointed, I really wanted her to
have had the baby also, I kind of got turned off the show when she miscarried. Weird I know.

But I dont miss it, I watched a bit here and there this season but just didn't love it.

I do get that, I liked her character a lot too. She appears briefly in the finale. I think the CaraLynn character was introduced to fill that void, but I didn't find her character as interesting.

Yep, I've totally caught up with the show. Was so not disappointed with the finale at all. Yeah, it wasn't the greatest, but it wasn't the worst either. Think my favorite scene was
Barb telling Sarah "we are forged, this family is forged because of your father"
.

Oh you're going to make me cry! That was such a great line! I loved the scene at the end of last week's ep where Nicki is crying and believes she's so unworthy. Bill's speech to her was so touching and moved me because I relate: feeling unworthy/unloveable/damaged and struggling to believe that God/ a higher power and others see you differently than that.

You like Nicki? Oh gosh I can't stand her, I've only watched season one and most of season three though but I find her utterly insufferable.
And with her dad's trial... it's Bones all over again... grrr...

I think my favorites are probably Sarah, Barb and Margene but I might have to give it some more thought

That is what I meant because like sometimes it takes forever in between when I can buy another season but it seems worth it and I am glad it tied everything up so I am going to go ahead and give this a go. Thanks Visiongirl 🙂

I love her because she's so complex and layered. Sometimes her actions are despicable, and other times she really surprises you. But mainly she comes from a place of a deep feeling of unworthiness. I just think she's so relatable!

Hm interesting, so far I've only gotten as far as despicable. Though I do agree that she really surprises you at times! 🙂
