Buffy Season 7 Finale now slated for May 20th...

This just in courtesy of Ain't It Cool News and the Hollywood Reporter....

If one needed any confirmation that "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" would indeed cease production for good in a month or two, that confirmation can be found in this morning's Hollywood Reporter..

Sarah Michelle Gellar, who essays the title role, is "in negotiations" to star in the MGM feature "Romantic Comedy." It's set to start shooting this August, and that's when "Buffy" would normally be before cameras.

Don't let the "in negotiations" part throw you. If negotiations are being reported in the trade papers, 99 times out of 100 it's already a done deal.

Officials at Mutant Enemy, "Buffy's" production company, have indicated that while the adventures of the slayer's friends may continue, on the WB's "Angel" or another spinoff, the title "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" would be retired with Gellar's departure.
Word has it that Buffy will not die a third death in the Joss Whedon-scripted series finale expected to air May 20, leaving the door open for a) Gellar guest appearances (should "Angel" continue and/or another Buffiverse spinoff appear next season) and b) a potential "Buffy" motion picture franchise.

"Buffy" fans in the Greater Los Angeles area should save the expected finale date, May 20, and watch this space. We at Ain't It Cool are already busily working to engineer a liquor-soaked "Buffy" send-off at a club here in Hollywood. We'll announce details once we're certain UPN won't change its mind about the airdate.

Thanks for the info! ... So, there you have it ... she's a goner!

That is so sad. I knew it might have come to end, but this is too soon! But i'm excited to see what the Faith spin-off(if there is one) will be like. Hopefully, they'll have Andrew and Willow on there for sure.

OH IM SO GLAD!!!!!Not that Buffy may end, but that shes not going to die, that would be the worst thing to happen, truly would, oh crap, what if Anya dies though, oh dear, the horror the horror!!!!!

The show's time has come to end.
In a way its good, Buffy could always come and guest star on 'Angel', or 'Faith' if there is a spinoff that is.

May 20th... does that mean the series finale will be a 2 parter, 2 hours?

Wait wait wait !! hold your horses ... I remeber something MSG said when I wtched her with Richard blackwood so here is an excerpt from the MSG/richard blackwood interview as seen on http://www.buffybytes.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3905&highlight=blackwood

Sarah: No but not only do they do that, but (last) year I shot Buffy and Scooby-Doo at the same time and I commuted

Blackwood: Yes, from Australia
(Sarah):I did two weeks in LA, two weeks in Australia, two weeks in LA, two weeks in Australia,

Blackwood: So how long did it take you to do that?

Sarah: Ahh six, seven months?

So all hope is not lost !

yeah, but you know how many rumours have been flying around EVERYWHERE, saying that this is definitely the end of Buffy, why should this be any different,

I was watching TV the other day, and can't remember what i was watching but it had a quote from James Marsy=ters saying thet he couldn't say much, but that the series finale would really piss off the fans...

I've been thinking...and the only thing that i can think of that would "piss off the fans" would be for Buffy to "get better' at the mental hospital and play it all off as the fantasy world thing...

unless anyone else has any others things that could piss us all off...i'm getting worried

It had better not end in a "Normal Again" style. That would really make me mad, and I'm sure others as well.

But, I myself am still in denial and believe that this is NOT the end!!! (yes, it's sad, but I gotta have dreams)
SMG has done the show and movies at the same time, so I think it's innappropriate to jump the gun and assume that she is not continuing with BtVS. There has been no official word yet.
There's still hope!!!!!

Not to deflate ur almost bursted bubble...but today SMG gave final word that she wouldn't be returning, and this "incarnation" of Buffy is going. I think it supposed to come out in the March 7th Entertainment Weekly...oh well, i guess we'll all find out!
