Big thanks to Buffy Boards

To everyone that helped me with my interviews, all those lovely research participants, but especially Scobro, Angelic Slayer, Stuck, Epo, XDruX and Lyri, and a BIG thanks to Buffy Summers for letting me use quotes from the boards....

Yesterday I had my PhD viva, having submitted at 100,000 word thesis about fandom and community online. My external examiner was Matt Hills (who is a big cheese in Fan Studies) and I am very pleased (and more than a little relieved) to say that I passed my examination, and my PhD will be awarded, subject to some corrections.

I can officially call myself Dr. Kali! And it's all thanks to you guys 🙂 Not only could I not have done it without you, but also, it would have been nowhere near as pleasurable. You guys are a hoot!

Not only that, now it's all over, I can come here and not keep thinking 'damn, that's something I should have included!'

Thanks again to the wonderful people at Buffy boards 🙂 Next I have to write an article about how fans use Twitter.... any ideas people?!?!

Okay.. I told her she should toot her own horn but since it seems she is too modest for that I will do it for her.

The most amazing thing is not that she got a PhD, its the fact that as a teen she dropped out of high school and STILL got a PhD. Not just that; she got a PhD while at the same time working a job, having and raising two kids, remodeling her house, selling her house and moving into a new one all while working on her PhD.

That is inspiring to me and maybe it shows that no matter what situation I find myself in, if I really want to do something I just have to set my mind and find a way to do it.
