A while ago we had a thread about trying to lose weight, esp. as a new year's resolution (and I would totally link to that thread, but it's 3am and I wanna go to bed asap 😛).

I was wondering how everyone is doing? Anyone managed to lose any weight lately?

Or (For those New Year's Resolutio people): Are you still sticking to your resolution? If not, this thread might be a good reminder, after all the year's not over yet, so there's still plenty of time!

I don't bother with new years resolutions. If something going changed, it should be done now, not months in the future 😛

As for weight, I need to lose some (well a lot) but I don't have the will power.

Me in a bikini...not a pretty sight lol...never guna happen.

I have way too much to lose and that's not guna happen any time soon either but I am trying and need to get back into weightwatchers again.

I've lost about 15 pounds since November. I know two people who've lost 15 pounds in one month and good for them, but that's just not for me, I love food way too much to manage to do an actual real diet. Having to watch everything I eat in a day, making sure to count the calories or quantities doesn't work for me.
Now I just eat healthier and in smaller quantities and I've gotten used to eat like that, so if there are days I just want to eat everything in the house, I can do it without actually putting on weight because I don't restrict myself so "bad days of binge" are much rarer.

I have no doubt I would have lost much more weight if I was paying more attention, but I know it wouldn't work.
So really, all the people who want to lose weight but have difficulties going on diets, you just have to change a bit your eating habits but make sure it is something you can do easily, because it's never going to work if you force yourself not to eat what you like because it's too bad for the diet. Also, be patient 😀

My weight loss is still going good, slow but still moving 🙂 Since last august, I've lost 4 1/2 stone now! 😀 Got another 2 stone to lose, don't think I'll ever have a bikini body though LOL

I think how much you lose at first also really depends on how much weight you start out with - apparently, the closer you get to your ideal weight, the harder those last pounds are to drop.

How much weight did you start out with, if you don't mind me asking? It definitely does sound pretty impressive so far, keep it up! 🙂

As for me, I'm not sure how it's going. I haven't really lost that much considering I've been trying to make changes ever since New Year's (well...with intermitted periods of really pigging out), but mostly I'm just glad I haven't gained anything. That was my biggest concern, because in 2011 I gained a total of 18 pounds. Around Christmas I weighed 151 pounds (up from 133) so it was quite a big increase in 2011.

I'm very, very far of my ideal weight :D
Just as a note because I can't say nothing... this offends me. "bikini season is coming up, anyone managed to lose weight" implies that women who wear one pieces do because they don't think their bodies are 'bikini worthy.' In my case, I'm rather fat. But I do not care if other people see it. I'd wear a bikini if it was cute/comfortable enough... despite the fact I'm about 60 pounds overweight. Because I don't think it should matter what anyone else says if I want to wear it. And my best friend has a killer body... but she's always preferred one pieces because of comfort. Her mother's constantly saying "Rachel, why don't you get a bikini this year? Your body is beautiful. Don't be ashamed of it." And Rachel's like "... I'm not. I love my body. I just hate bikinis!" But in this society that's unheard of it. It's almost not allowed.

So how about instead of saying "bikini season's coming up, how many of you managed to lose weight?" Say "Summer's coming up, and I know a lot of people had goals to lose weight by summer... how many of you were successful."

I wish I was confident enough to wear bikinis or even one pieces!

I get where you're coming from but I don't think any harm was meant with the thread, saying 'summer's coming up' is basically just euphemism for "bikni season is coming up".... to me they're interchangeable. The sum total being that you'll be showing more skin than otherwise and whether or not your comfortable with that in your current size.

A lot of people don't feel comfortable in a bikini (fat or thin) and a lot of people do have weight loss goals intended for the 'bikini season' . Therefor I wouldn't say this is offensive at all. If you don't wish to lose weight, if you're happy in your body, if you love how you look in a bikini/one piece... good for you. Everyone should feel that way... but they don't. So I don't see any harm in people discussing whether or not they'll be "bikini ready", which could just as well mean "one piece" btw, in a non-judgemental manner.

"Beach/summer/bikni" shape/season/body are all the same to me. It might be sad that we obsess about these things as we should love ourselves as we are. But that just isn't what the situation is like for many.

Yes, but by equating the terms "bikini season" and "summer," you shame people who don't wear bikinis or have no intention of doing so.

I know a lot of people don't feel comfortable and have goals to lose weight to look good and more importantly FEEL good in whatever bathing suit they wear this year... but nonetheless... I just don't like the term "bikini ready" because it implies that women who wear one pieces do not feel they are ready for a bikini.

I'm not trying to say "don't say this." I'm offering my opinion and explaining that I took offense and why. My offense isn't because you care about your weight, appearance, and comfort. My offense is because you're equating 'bikini season' with 'summer.' you're implying by your terminology that women who have hit their goal weight wear bikini's and women who haven't don't. That is untrue. So the terminology is off here. That is all I am saying.

I get what you're saying, 🙂 I guess my point is just that that's your reading of it. Eg:
you shame people who don't wear bikinis or have no intention of doing so.

I don't wear biknis, I wouldn't be caugth dead in one around people, and I don't feel the slightest bit shame by the term "bikini ready" or season or it being equated with summer.
Which is why I also strong disagree with this;
you're implying by your terminology that women who have hit their goal weight wear bikini's and women who haven't don't. That is untrue. So the terminology is off here.

Again, I just think that's how you personally interpret the terminology, not how people in general do.

I get what you're saying, 🙂 I guess my point is just that that's your reading of it. Eg:
If you're saying this, you don't understand what I am trying to say... My point is that regardless of how that's not ACTUALLY what people may think or mean when they use these terms... because these are the terms they use, these are the social consequences that these terms have. I'm not the only one who feels this way... I've had a lot of conversations with many different people over the years of how I hate these terms because of their social consequences. And others (including two sociology professors) have agreed with me about what those social consequences are.

I don't wear biknis, I wouldn't be caugth dead in one around people, and I don't feel the slightest bit shame by the term "bikini ready" or season or it being equated with summer.
Which is why I also strong disagree with this;
You was general. Not specific. it was a general 'you' as in 'one' or 'society.'

Again, I just think that's how you personally interpret the terminology, not how people in general do.
And again, it's not a personal interpretation of the terminology... it's pointing out the unconscious and subconscious social consequences of the terminology.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree, even if you have professors on your side :)
Getting this thread back on topic....

I have kinda stopped trying to reach my weight loss goals lately. After my husband came home it just seemed like we had so much going on and I was going here and going there and not really paying attention to my eating and exercise habits. I'll get back on the wagon eventually... Until then? Me in a bikini would blind people and/or scar them for life. I'll stick to my one-piece with my nice cover up. LOL

I was looking through the recent topics list and saw this thread while eating a cupcake. I had to pause mid-bite haha. But I'm planning on doing more on the treadmill soon. I seem to be losing a bit of weight while at work which is good as well. 🙂

CUPCAKE?!?! NEVER PAUSE MID BITE OF CUPCAKE!!! That's like a sin! :P
I lost four pounds last week 😀

It's not really intentional, I"m just eating more protein and less needless carbs. Since I've started lifting (weights) I crave massive amounts of protein more than anything else. I have no intention of going on a huge diet or anything like that, I just HAVE to build muscle and be in better shape for my upcoming surgery. After said surgery, I'm going to lose all of the weight I need to anyway, since for at least 3 months, I'll be burning the equivalent of calories I would be if I were running 5 miles a day while just laying in bed.

Me going on an intentional diet with weight loss in mind leads to very bad things for me, so since I figured that out, I try to stay away from it.

Good luck to everyone who is actually trying to lose weight though! 😀

I've lost some weight, I don't know how much exactly cos I don't have a scale but my pants have been feeling a lot looser lately... but I would never wear a bikini. never.

I only wear my bikini to tan, if I'm actually going to swim or be moving around I'm much more comfy in a one piece.

Anyways, I haven't lost much, not that I've been actively trying to loose weight, but I have done a pretty good job a eating healthier (lots of veggies! 😀) and being active.

I have lost about 2 and a half stone/30lbs since last september, which isn't much for the period of time but my body shape has changed a lot due to the regular exercise.

I'm 5'7, 28 and used to weigh 17 stone 9lbs. 🙄 I saw a dietition to help with my eating habits and then she put me on an excercise programme, I'm now 13stone 1lb. My target weight it 11stone 🙂
