Bilawal Zardari - Benazir Bhutto's son - BTVS fan?

Amidst all the madness surrounding the recent events in Pakistan I found this in today's Times -

Bilawal is 19 years old, only a decade my junior, yet I cannot help but think of him as a child. I have always known him as one of Benazir's three children, for whom she and I drove around London buying Buffy the Vampire Slayer comic books...
...I remember him as a shy, bespectacled teenager, often looking after his sisters. He was a film buff and I would struggle to choose a film that he had not seen when we all went to the cinema. Bibi was keen on reading and bought books by the boxful. But she was broadminded enough to realise that teenage tastes can vary. I remember one summer, we spent the entire afternoon at a comic book shop near Russell Square as Bilawal, with his sisters, completed their collection of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel comic books. Bibi patiently accompanied them.

Really? Bilawal's a Buffy fan? The media has no conception of what "real news" is. This should be on the front page. 🙂 It would give the world hope (and what I mean by the world is us Buffy fans).

Yes truly thank you Mr Pointy for sharing. That actually brought tears to my eyes because I was just watching this young man on the news, asking myself how long is he going to live. I don't know how that piece of news you shared made my heart feel lighter but it did. But now I'm thinking he belongs on this Buffy forum, not on a political one. That's the mother in me being, well, a mother.

That reminds me of someone else a long time ago. When he was President, John Kennedy was a fan of Ian Fleming, years before Sean Connery first portrayed James Bond on television. He would sit up hours into the night, losing much needed sleep, escaping from the problems of the real world by entering the more simple one created by Fleming. He always referred to those moments as his "sanity time" and believed that the stories of how a single person, through courage and determination, could overcome even the most incredible odds,

Maybe Buffy can be the inspiration this young leader needs to deal with his own demons and those that plague his own personal hellmouth.

I agree completely, I know from personal experience that Buffy can be your sanctuary and I would love for Bilawal to find solice in the show if he can but looking at him on the news in that press conference he looked so utterly lost and the situation in Pakistan is so desperate at the moment it just mkes me feel that he ever be able to go to those days where he could run around London searching for Buffy comics. Ths week has been the end of his innocence and I just feel that not even Buffy can save him and that really makes me sad.
