This is something that has seemed to be sort of ambiguous to me throughout vampire stories/movies and the Buffy and Angel series as well. Does it hurt to be bitten by a vampire? I know that on the three times Buffy was bitten (by the Master, Angel, and Dracula), she always flinches, which seems kind of strange for someone with the pain tolerance that a Slayer would have to have, and there is the scene when William is turned, yelling "ow..ow ow...ow...," but most of the time, when someone is fed off of, they never seem to struggle or make any sound whatsoever.
 
I imagine it probably feels like having blood drawn. A little prick, and then that strange pulling sensation... I would probably say "Ow" or flinch -- not so much because of the pain, but because of those strange sensations + the whole being attacked thing.

Oh - and Jesse said it felt like getting a hickey. That's what he thought Darla did to him.
 
It must not have been too painful cuz Buffy seemed to really REALLY like it when Angel fed off her.

I think it would hurt. A lot, really. Because you have bone scraping bone and all that muscle tearing...are there muscles in the neck? Anyway, I think that victims really wouldn't make a sound because of the shock of it all. It's like, "Holy crap! A vampire! It just bit meeeeaahhh..." and then they'd kinda zone out maybe.

Possibly not. There's an anasthetic in the saliva of a vampire bat that acts as both an anasthetic, deadening pain, and an anticoagulant, inhibiting clotting. Human vamps may have something similar.

I've heard the attacks of a vampire and a werewolf being referred to as seduction and rape respectively, and some movies actually portray the reaction (a woman being fed on by a male vamp, obviously) as an extremely sensual experience. Personally, if Angelina Jolie was a vampire and wanted to do a little nibbling on my neck...

Well I think thats where Joss was going with Buffy/Angel scene since Angel marked Buffy as his mate, kinda amazed they got away with it actually.

I'm inclined to go along with the pin-prick sensation leading to not so unpleasentness in some cases. I think it depends on the vamps intention, if they want you to feel pain you will
 
In practically all Vampire media/literatire the bite is presented as being something the Vampire can perform without causing any real suffering to the bitee.

Even in Carmilla, the difficulty of biting on the chest, she is able to bite Laura several times without causing anything more than the pinch or sharp feeling of a needle.

Vampires who care little about the victim, or feral Vampires, simply tear the throat or use all of their teeth to crush etc. So it looks like there is an "art" to a proper bite.

Now, let me get this straight. Buffy forced Angel to feed off of her in order to save his un-life (had to slug him a few times first, in fact), he drains her almost to the point of death, and THAT marks her as his mate? I agree with Dracula, "He was unworthy."

But wait a minute, doesn't that mean that she was the Master's mate first? Maybe that's why exes are referred to as "blood suckers."

By the way, if you read fan fiction, Spike bit her, too, just not on the neck (it's the mature versions of fan fiction), so she's been mated to three different vampires...no, there.s also Dracula... What was that that Faith said about Buffy knowing all the cool vampires? I didn't know she maent "knew" in the Biblical sense. The Slayer gets around!

(P. S. Just remember who had her last, and whoever ends up with the girl in the end gets to keep her)

It wasn't the simple fact that Angel bit Buffy that mated them it was the way he bit her and the fact that she essentially wanted him to do it that caused her to scar. When the Master bit her it was just to feed.

and I do read fics quite alot actually and the effects of the Buffy and Angel mating have varying effects...telepathy being the most common.

(P.S...nice try with trying to get Spike in on the bite buffy club by including fan fics but sadly he was NEVER invited...someone wasn't worthy!!
 
He licked blood from her arm, I think if Spike drank or bit Buffy it would have been a scene we would have seen and not something that happened off camera
 
Yeah but Buffy getting biten is kind of big deal I don't see it happeneing without us getting to see it

You obviously haven't read the same fan fiction that I have, but we'll let that slide. Fan fiction, like pre-Season 8 comics, aren't canon. The bite thing was just a joke. The part about having the girl in the end was as serious as a heart attack. She didn't spend what might have been her last night on earth with Ol' Broody. He was in LA dreaming about baking cookies.
