Black Friday Sales

Who's going to participate and where will you go...and obviously what are you interested in getting this year?

I am just going to get some DVD-r's and some clothes and other random stuff. Last two years it was major stuff but not this year. There isn't much I want.

I don't really want anything this year, either, and don't feel like braving the crowds, so I'm not sure I'll really get out. Plus there's the turkey recovery factor! I might hit the mall, just to look around, tho. But AFTER all the nuts that got there at 5 am clear out!

After working at Wal-Mart for 4 years, I absolutely refuse to leave the house on Black Friday. Unless it's to drive home from relatives' houses. There is no gadget that is worth that insanity, I don't care how much they've marked it down to.

I've given up on holiday shopping altogether, unless absolutely necessary. No person's life is worth all that. 😛

Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving and is the beginning of the traditional Christmas shopping season in the United States. Since Thanksgiving falls on the fourth Thursday in November, Black Friday may be as early as the 23rd and as late as the 29th day of November. Retailers often decorate for the Christmas season weeks beforehand. Many retailers open very early (typically 5 A.M.) and offer doorbuster deals and loss leaders to draw people to their stores.

I always go out on "Black Friday" (Which, in my opinion, there's nothing black about it....)

This year, I'm trying to get my mother to go out with me. She never goes. And at a mall by my house, they will be opening Thanskgiving night at Midnight... I think it would be tons of fun! 🙂

But I'm a shopaholic, so crowds don't really bother me. As long as I get to shop!

I like to shop, too, but I don't like it THAT much. I've done the Black Friday thing before, and I'm SO over it now. Altho, one year, we bought the kids TV's for Christmas on BF, and another year DVD players......both REALLY cheap. Since I'm almost done with Xmas shopping this year, except for stocking stuffers and a couple small things, I'm not even going to worry about the sales. I'll let someone else be courageous and grab all the good stuff. I will miss coming home afterward and taking a nice nap, tho!

I think it's a lot of fun. Getting up at 3am to get ready and go to the stores and wait until they either open the doors or state.. "it's five o'clock" is just plain exciting. People go crazy and spring, leap, jump forward for all those cheap items they want. Heck at walmart you can get certain appliances for $3.34 in my area. No they aren't the high tech ones like a digital coffee machine or 4 slice bagel toaster but I will take regular toasters and coffee machines and regular crock pots (and a hand mixer) for $3.34 any day. Of course that's not the only good sale. But I can't seem to resist. Maybe it's because I am a Canadian who only moved to the usa a few years ago and it's all very new to me.

Yeah, there is a fun and exciting side to it...and then there's the whole waiting-in-line, can't-find-a-parking-space, screaming-kids, crabby-people-who-got-up-too-early side, too. That's the part I'm not crazy about. If it was all the thrill of the chase, without the hassles....I might consider it. But....to each their own! Christmas is my favorite time of the year, and I'm for whatever makes people happy. If that means getting up at 3 am to hit the sales, more power to ya!

Just to the North of Americaville in the magical land of Canada we celebrate our Thanksgiving a month earlier so there is no Black Friday.

What we do have is Boxing Day. Yeah, I know the Americans have Boxing Day too, but it's not the same thing as Canadian Boxing day. The majority of our immigrants come from non-Christian countries so by and large they don't celebrate Christmas. But they do love their Boxing day. Walk through the main Canadian cities on Boxing day and you'll think they merged Bombay and Hong Kong. It's like a multi-cultural event. Great Fun. For sheer, chaotic nuttiness I'll put Canadian Boxing day up against American Black Friday anytime.

Being from Canada and living there for 22.5 years of my life I have to say America's black friday wins hands down. I always thought boxing day was amazing until I came here.

I never found deals like that on Boxing day. My parents came last year for Black Friday and loved it. Had a blast.
Anyways, all the boxing day talk has made me miss Canada more now, which I never thought was possible.

I'd never heard of Black Friday, I thought it was an Irish thing, like Bloody Sunday etc.
