After watching this I have a new appreciation for those movies. There are many more practical effects than I thought. I saw a lot of the scenes and thought it's CGI. I thought wrong.

Over the last several years there has been a push to have real person action rather than computer generated / green screen falsehoods. Many actors prefer to do their own stunts rather than have stuntmen/ women, and those actors often prefer to do the stunts. It also allows the camera to show close-ups of the main characters to aid the continuity of the film.
Not all stunts are done this way but the number is increasing.
