Since we so often talk about the grayness of the Buffyverse and how some of us don't believe that the protagonists of this world are at all good, I'd like to ask who you think is the Darkest Good Guy?

I'll go with the dark side of Angel we saw in Angel Season 3, or how about Numero Cinco?

Where would characters like chipped Spike, or Ethan Rayne fit in here?

I think if we look at a character as a whole I'd say Angel, he was pretty dark.

For a single moment (or short spree) Dark Willow all the way.

I didn't think of breaking down spike into his chipped and souled counterparts...I definitely wouldn't include Soulless Spike as he wasn't a "good" guy...but then again chipped Spike didn't do much good until Season 5 when he discovers his "love" for Buffy anyway. And Ethan...never really on the side of the "good". Notice all my ""'s?? 😀

Ash's choice of Dark Willow is interesting, because towards the end of Grave she did seem to believe she was doing good.

Does that mean Jasmine would also apply?

You ask as though I'm the expert 😛 Maybe I should have established a strict set of rules for this thread that I would enforce upon all who enter (J/K). That's why I put the "Other", because people outside my brain (yes there's more than one inside my brain) see things differently than I may.

I think people like Willow and Giles are very dark. I think this because for the most part, they are truly "white" people. As we had seen for five seasons, both characters had done little as far as being bad. But during season six, and season five's finale, both characters demonstrated a deep darkness. Giles, will always have The Rippers living inside him, as well as his murdering of Ben.
Willow, through season six, showed a definite dark side. And I don't only mean Dark Willow, but her addiction to the dark arts. She succumbed to it. And I know she came back, but she displayed an undeniable love for putting herself in that position.

There's so many interesting questions within this question, like what about characters like Lilah, or Gwen Raiden. You keep thinking maybe there's hope for them, and maybe they'll take that one tiny step over the line into the light.

Then there's Urkonn from Fray: a demon working for demons, but also allied with the hero.

I'd have to go for Wesley! He went really dark for a long while and totally changed his character but he was still the good guy. Willow went bad but she actually went bad and tried to destroy the world. As did Angel! I think that's my point made! 😉

Add: I should explain that. She was/is a vampire without a soul, yet she isn't REALLY evil, never was. I mean she is/was an evil souless vampire as wes said in disharmoney but unlike Spike who had to be good because of the chip she never had to be good.

Giles all the way!!!!!!!!1 I think if we got to see the true extent of his dark side we all might be a little scared. They only seem to like hint at his darkness but you can totallly see it! Like when he killed Ben I wasn't even shocked because despite how "good" Giles was it seemed to be totally in his character to do it. I think I liked him more for doing it. The same way I liked when Gunn killed the professor for Fred. I guess I just like to see my men taking out the garbage hehe 🙂

Sorry Cordy, I couldn't vote on this one. I just couldn't decide. It was a cross between Giles, Willow, Faith, Angel, Spike, and Buffy herself. I think they all showed their dark side at one point or another ( some more than others). I think they all had skeletons.

Would have said Faith (Multiple murderer without the Soulless! excuse) but she hated all that darkness. Wesley kind of embraced it, and never really let go.

I would have to say Wesley and Angel for very different reasons.
Wesley has always been something of a dark character. Even when he was very comic on Buffy, he was willing to sacrifice other people in order to gain sucess in his missions. On Angel episodes like Billy as well as his obsession with Fred and willingness to make drastic decisions alone revealed just how scarry and twisted Wesley really is. By season 4, Wesley had realized the darkness inside of himself and in some ways embraced it. He realized that admitting his darkness allowing it expression made him a more dangerous person and fighter. Admitting his darkness made him better at his "job."

Angel is different. He spent most of his existance in a mysoginistic society and at times this shows. Angel is more than willing to do terrible things for a good reason. The only problem is that many times his reasons do not justify his actions. Angel also has a temper and like Angelus seems to enjoy hurting others to a degree.

I like Wesley's darkness. I'm not so happy about Angel's because too many people don't notice it or excuse his actions. However, Angel's flaws help make the show interesting.

I think Buffy has a dark side also, even though she really wouldn't want to admit it. I mean, besides being the slayer (a dark entity in itself), she's made choices that don't exactly peg her on the side of complete goodness. In the end she'll always fight for good, but the darkness inside her has always been there, as we sort of explored in season 7.

I voted for Faith and Wesley. They both were so dark in season 4 of Angel. I don't think there was any good guy darker than them in the whole Buffyverse. Other than the vampires of course.

I voted for Giles as I felt that there were hidden depths to him. Although he was on the side of Good, there were so many times that we saw his bad side.

Band Candy, he was very irresponsible and didn't really care about the law, after all if he had, he wouldn't have slept with Joyce on the bonnet of a cop car.

The Gift, he killed Ben! Fair enough Ben was Glory but it was still murder as Ben was human.

I'm sure there are more examples, my brain just isn't functioning at the mo for me to remember them.
