I have been a little disturbed by the amount of people that don't know who Blackadder is (or being surprised that 'Mr Bean' is the man who plays him - how do we live in a world where Mr Bean is well known but people don't know Blackadder?) SO I have decided to open a thread.

Go to Youtube and do a search for Blackadder S02E01.

I suggest season 2 because each season is a different character so you don't need to know the other seasons and season 1 is a little, well lets just say you have to be a fan to like it.

Here are some reasons to like the show.

It has Brian Blessed in it
It has Hugh Laurie (House) in it
It has Stephen Fry in it
It has Tony Robinson in it
It has Tim McInnery in it
It has Miranda Richardson in it
It has Robbie Coltrane in it
It has Ric Mayall in it

Season 1 is based in the court of Richard IV and is portrayed as a wonderfully vicious King by Brian Blessed
Season 2 is based in the court of Elizabeth I and she is portrayed as a spoiled brat magically by Miranda
Season 3 is based with the Prince Regent portrayed as an idiotic monarch wonderfully by Hugh Laurie
Season 4 is based on the front lines of the first world war and is commanded by Stephen Fry.

Season 4 ends with THE most magnificent piece of TV ever, not just for comedy but for all genres - it will have you weeping.

The characters are at time disgusting yet fun.
You will have many lines you wish to quote over again.
Rowan Atkinson shows that he is actually a fine actor.
Richard Curtis shows he is actually a fine writer - Four Weddings and Love Actually not with standing.

Finally its quite a nice romp through British history with some very interesting historical facts thrown in to boot.

I think that should be enough - anyone else has reasons post them.

To be honest, you're not the only one who was a bit concerned about the amount of people not knowing Blackadder. It's genious! I absolutely adore Melchett, and Queen Liz is just so incredibly good. And of course Hugh L. as the prince is amazingly witty. Thinking about them makes me want to watch some. In fact, I'm gonna do it right now. Bye! *rushes off to find some episodes*

I love Blackadder, but hate Mr. Bean actually. Not sure why is it so, but it goes like that. I guess i just need to have dialog in and not behaving like...actually it is hard to describe that. Anyways, i am guessing you also seen the 2000 special and did you like it? I sure did 🙂

I didn't like it as much as the series HOWEVER I did like it.

I love the scene where he punches Shakespeare and fights Robin Hood.

I also love the Christmas Carol Blackadder style.

I feel quite proud now that I was one of the clued up people. I absolutely hate Mr Bean I have to admit- it just doesn't reach my funny bone- but Rowan Atkinson really explores his comic genius in everything else; especially Blackadder. I do have to say my favorite season was always the Queen Liz ones. They just seemed, to me, so much more funnier than the other seasons; which is saying something! haha. Miranda Richardson was excellent though and I think that was probably part of drawing me in.

For most of my adult life people can't seem to believe that I just can't stand it. I don't know why I don't like it, it just irks me and I don't find it funny at all.

I have tried several times to sit down and watching different ones to see what everyone loves about it but i'm just not a fan. The same people also get on at me for not liking The Office or Spaced.

So tell me EB - what particular episode/series do you think would win over someone like me?

Blackadder is something I watch most nights either that or red dwarf. I love it and I want the new box set because it has the blackadder christmas in it. I cannot really pick which season I prefer but I do like the first ep when Peter Cook is the king who Haunts him .

I love the Blackadder series, have all of them on DVD and can't resist rewatching them when I'm bored.

Did you catch the anniversary shows a few weeks ago? not spectacular but it was nice of the BBC to finally bother to do something for it lol.

We even had a Blackadder in high school, Emma, who was constantly being inundated with quotes from the show, poor thing.

Yes me too - he does look very dashing in 2 doesn't he? I watched the final episode in goes forth just last week and got a bit tearful - as always.

Blackadder Rides Again includes the first-ever in-depth interview with Edmund Blackadder himself, Rowan Atkinson, about his personal experience of being involved in the sitcom and its phenomenal success. Set to join Rowan are the core cast and writing team who have gone on to become some of the greatest names in entertainment, both in the UK and US. These include: Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie, Richard Curtis, Ben Elton, Miranda Richardson, Tim McInnerny and Tony Robinson.

Ricky Kelehar, Executive Producer and Director of Factual Entertainment, Tiger Aspect, Productions, said: "We are extremely excited to have persuaded the entire creative team behind this iconic sitcom to appear in the same show for the very first time since they all worked together. There were rumours about a year ago that there was a mooted new series being discussed by Ben Elton, Richard Curtis and Rowan Atkinson set in the 'swinging 60s' with Miranda playing the current Elizabeth.

If so, I would suggest you watch season 3 of Blackadder as Hugh Laurie is brilliant.
