Hi you guys,

I am david from the netherlands (so excuse my poor spelling) , BIG BIG BIG fan of buffy, all seasons.
Especialy season 5. Why? well because it had so many links with the Bible.
say what? Yeah..yeah, dont click away, this is no holier then thou, pointing vingers, warning for the occult kind of BS treath.
Dont wanna be that guy, and you guys will simply click away. i can see past the 'occult'. buffy is well written and has SUPER witty sharp humor, thats why i love love love it.

Ok back on track, so yeah i am a christian, i even study theology, so i know alot about it. so i see so many links. its like the writer(s) of buffy knews this, or it is guided some way,.... any way... in season 5 it can not be just mere coincident. just some small pointers:

blood is life, right, its a concept thats worked out througout the whole season. ( i am guessing you guys have no Bible within ur grasp so i just copy if you dont mind:
leviticus 17:11:

For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.

dawn is the only way to the gate/lock and also the only way to stop the hell (dimentions merging), it needs blood, and death too stop the horrible faith of the world.
death is her gift. she is giving up her life, and blood. she saves the world by it. she (buffy) loves the world and dawn so much she switches places. it was destiny.
then she jumps, arms spread out, like someone would at a cross. later she rises from death. and in the end her power is distributed to alot more.(last season) (link= pentecostal)

i too am a christian but i would be careful to try and draw coraltions between buffy and christ. granted the story line is similar in a lot of ways but then again it is also very different. i see what you are trying to do and really this is one of the only arcs in buffy that fits in with the bible. blood does equal life, but also another underlying theme in buffy is the existence of friends, and trying to find the line that exists between good and evil. don't get caught up in trying to make everything in buffy about God. Joss is an outspoken athiest (unless i missed something) and i'm sure he put no religious aspects into the script outside of mythology found in fairy tales and other folk-lore.

point taken, and like i said, i study theology, the points that match were very cool 2 me.
obviously, i know the borders, and that most of the story line goes in the opposite direction, where its all about finding the power in yourself and such.
not to mention the witchcraft and other contra Biblical elements. ty for the warning. i know the danger, i just figured i could lay some links, and get them to read the Bible, and see it.

Well. The Bible is a vast book, and a part of the cultural history in all of Europe, so if you are looking for parallels between other works of fiction and the big book you are fairly sure to succeed. That said, a lot of religions (all?) has a close connection between blood and life. Without blood, there simply cannot be life as we know it.

'Buffy and the Bible' sounds like a rather interesting work of literature. :tongue3:

I'm not sure what episode this is referencing, but here's a quote from Joss:

I've noticed a lot of things in Buffy that the viewer could see as Biblical or other religious symbolism.
